About the training

The ExtremeXOS: Operation and Configuration (EXOC) training course provides Extreme Networks customers with instructor-led lectures and extensive hands-on laboratory exercises. This course presents the concepts and skills required to deploy the Extreme Networks products as Layer 2 switches and as wire-speed Layer 3 routers in a variety of network situations. This course is based on ExtremeXOS 12.1.
The course focuses on device management, Layer 2 configuration, Layer 3 configuration for IP networks using static routes, RIP, OSPF, universal port, and basic network troubleshooting. The course also presents an overview of the ExtremeXOS software feature set.
Completing this course fulfills the requirement for the Extreme Networks Associate (ENA) certification.

Audience

This course is designed for individuals responsible for the configuration, management, maintenance, and support of the Extreme Networks family of LAN switches.

Prerequisites

A student must have a working familiarity of LAN concepts, including Ethernet and TCP/IP networking. Experience configuring network devices is recommended.

Objectives

At the end of this course, the students will be able to:

Describe Extreme Networks products
Use the ExtremeXOS command line interface structure
Configure the Extreme Networks switch for network management
Configure Layer 1 and Layer 2 networking features
Describe the process to setup and verify ExtremeXOS stacking operation
Describe and configure different VLAN types
Configure a network using the Spanning Tree Protocol
Configure a network using Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching (EAPS)
Configure Layer 3 routing
Configure and deploy a dynamically routed network using RIP and OSPF
Configure Network Login to use MAC-based authentication
Describe and configure Universal Port
Configure policy-based Quality of Service (QoS)
Perform diagnostics on the switch
Perform basic troubleshooting steps

Advanced Traffic Analysis and TroubleShooting

Description:
The course “Advanced Traffic Analysis and TroubleShooting” is an advanced technical training course that provides the expertise necessary to perform traffic analysis, and diagnose troubleshooting problems related to network performance, network integrity and traffic flow.
It also covers troubleshooting PacketShaper hardware, software and configuration, and solving problems related to capacities, limits, and performance. The course looks deeply into command line operation of Packeteer devices; advanced visibility, control and Acceleration options, troubleshooting strategies and the use of diagnostic tools.

Requirement to course members:
Completion of “Packeteer Certified Specialist” (= Level 1) course. These course members / engineers are involved in the in-depth configuration and use of the PacketShaper.

At the end of this course students will understand the features, operation and technology behind the PacketShaper products and be able to carry out the following tasks:

Packeteer Specialist Level I

Description:
The course “Packeteer Specialist” is the first certified course of the Packeteer Training and Certification Program. This course is suitable for Pre- and Post- sales personnel wishing to gain a concise understanding of the technology behind and implementation of the Packeteer products.
Therefore we have setup a goal which is to develop basic knowledge and skills sufficient to operate and install Packeteer on a daily basis.

Course members:
This course is of a technical nature; therefore experience of networking technology is essential. An understanding of TCP is a definite advantage, as is the basic operational characteristics of higher-level application protocols such as Citrix and HTTP.

Objectives:
At the end of this course students will understand the features, operation and technology behind the PacketShaper products and be able to carry out the following tasks:
• PacketShaper Overview
• Classifying Traffic
• Analyzing Network, Application and Host Performance
• Generating Network and Application Performance Reports
• Controlling Network Traffic
• Compressing and Accelerating Network Traffic
• Maintaining PacketShaper
• Troubleshooting Network Traffic Problems

Special Requirement:
Delegates are required to provide 1 PC/Laptop for use on the class. Each PC needs to have a web browser, FTP and Telnet clients, and the user will be required to change the IP configuration for the class.
