Angela Seliski is a 1999 graduate of Holy Name School. After leaving Holy Name Angie went on to the Delano Middle School. She excelled in softball also however her passion was dance. Through her high school years she was a member of the high school dance team and became a captain.

After graduation from Delano High School in 2005, Angie went onto Moorhead State but eventually transferred to Mankato State. She was trying to find a career path that would be her life’s goal of being involved in the medical field. The world had gone through major changes. The job outlook was fading for college graduates and tuition was growing. Rather than sitting back and waiting for things to change, Angie decided that the Army offered her a path to reach her goal of nursing.

After many spirited discussions with her parents, Angie enlisted in the United State Army Reserve attached to the 452 Combat Support Hospital based at Fort Snelling. She was off to Fort Sill in Oklahoma for basic training. She survived the physical and metal challenges of leaving the comforts of home. After Basic Training graduation, she was a stronger, more determined young woman. Nothing was going to get in her way of getting where she wanted to go.

After completing basic training she was transferred to Fort Sam Houston, the nation’s largest military training facility located in San Antonio, Texas to begin training to become a Combat Medic. Angie was assigned to the 264th Medical Brigade and was put through rigorous training that included setting up a field hospital, treating and evacuating casualties from hostile areas along with the Army’s Medivac Blackhawk helicopter team. Despite a 50% drop-out rate, Angie completed the program with flying colors.

After completing Combat Medic training it was off to Fort Gordon in Augusta Georgia a year of intense training in the Army Nurse Corps. Besides the classroom, soldiers work clinic rotations at 6 area hospitals working in all facets including emergency room, burn units, intensive care and others. She was exposed to cutting edge DaVinci Robotic Surgical System that allows surgeons in the US to operate on soldiers abroad. During her time at Fort Gordon she was promoted to rank of Specialist. After nursing school graduation, Angie will return to Minnesota to enter an ROTC program to complete her education as a registered nurse as a commissioned officer.

Angela is the daughter of her proud parents Barb & Bob Seliski of Delano, Minnesota

It is well known that the Delano School District is one of the top 5 in Minnesota. But how does that relate to the value of your home if you live in the Delano School District? You think we should have stable or at least increasing home values, but of lately that is not the case. There may be an underlying reason which most folks don’t know about – and that is the cost of a building permit in the City of Delano.

Stay tuned for more on this story later this month!

In the meantime, check out this story about how the performance of your school district could affect your home value!

Known by most people as Mr. May the former principal of Delano High School many folks know him for a long list of accomplishments and service to others. I on the other hand, have a much different insight and view of this gentleman.

As the Delano Citizen of the year in 2009, everyone got to see and learn about the incredible impact Ted made on the Delano community. Not only as most likely the most respected principal of the high school, but also has served others in many other capacities. But, you all know that side of him so I won’t bore you with that.

There is a side of this man that you don’t know, but I do. You see, I had the honor of working as Ted’s agent in the sale of this home on 3rd Street in Delano. When you work that closely with anyone, you really get to know people. I am not going to break my fiduciary duty to Ted nor anyone for which I have worked, but no newspaper article or award ceremony has ever spoken about Ted’s faith in people and his generosity to those who otherwise not have a chance to reach for a future.

Ted did not just pass papers over his desk. He got involved with the kids saw each student as an individual with their own potential. I dare say he remembers an incredible number of kids names, their parents names and to whom they eventually married. Ted helped kids in many more ways than just one of his chats. He played an important role in helping kids beyond their years in high school. He was and is the consummate champion of higher education and used his abilities to make the opportunity of college a reality.

It wasn’t his job – it wasn’t a line item in his contract. He just did because that is who he is. That passion for people and striving for excellence continues today!

Most recently, I received an email from Ted announcing he was embarking on project to produce a night of music at the Delano Senior Center. It was “Come to the Cabaret”. Think about that for a minute! It’s a huge task and requires a lot coordination and cooperation.

Well, in the usual Ted May fashion – he pulled it off. He had help from folks like Linda VanLith and others. EXCELLENT!! Congratulations to Ted and his crew that worked so very hard. You see, that is who he is – serving others and having a ball doing it.

I knew of a couple of parents that complained about Ted’s disciplinary actions for times when their kids got caught breaking the rules. How irate they were when they would get pulled from sports events as part of the punishment. I heard the parental ranting “What kid hasn’t had a beer now and then – this is ridiculous!!” Despite fierce opposition, Ted stood his ground – not because of a power play – but rather because he cared so deeply. Even the kids that got into trouble had a great deal of respect for Ted.

Like I mentioned, I wish I could tell you the whole story – it goes deeper. If you were fortunate enough to have your kids as students at Delano High School during Ted’s tenure as principal, consider yourself very lucky. I know I do!
