If you want a bit of free publicity for your organization or event – just fill out one of the submission forms or email the webmaster, it is very easy!

You can even share some pictures or stories about a day spent at Compo Beach with the kids. Kind of like a facebook for Westport – how fun is that?!

Anyhow – be sure and head over, sign up for the free newsletter, and give a big shout to the enterprising folks that are putting this together. Building community is what it’s all about.

Westport summer camp is on our minds even as the snow continues to fall outside. As crazy as it seems, advance planning key to getting into some of the more popular camps. While this list is by no means comprehensive, I have compiled a collection of area offerings for kids. I am trying to concentrate on summer camps in Westport Connecticut but I have included some that service all of Fairfield County as well. So here goes:

With the kind of winter that we have been having that is a good one to know. For all students in the public schools the new system generally will call you with delay and cancellation information (very early in the morning, I might add).

But a lot of activities and other area organizations such as preschools that are not affiliated with the Westport Public Schools also follow this weather schedule. So if you don’t get a wake up call from the superintendent then here is the phone number for you to call.

Westport kids between the ages of 5 and 17 are invited to attend The Mikado Operetta at the Pequot Library in Southport.

This concert is part of the 2008 Free Young Persons’ Concert series and is presented by Music for Youth and the Pequot Library.

When: Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 2:00 pm

No tickets are required but seating is first come, first served.

Instruments for budding musicians in Westport Connecticut can cost a pretty penny – especially if there is more than one child in the family. So, the Music Parents Association of the Fairfield High Schools is holding an instrument consignment sale.

If you have an instrument to consign bring them to the small gym on Friday September 12 between 4pm and 7pm. You can set your own price and will receive 70% of the sale price.

Today was the last day of school in Westport Connecticut! The kids are excited and the parents – well, it’s a mixed bag. I know that I am now filling in the blanks, if you will.

My kids are already registered for the camps/activities that they really wanted to do. But there are still large chunks of free time in their schedules. Now it is a fine balance between over and under scheduling. But I don’t want the summer to turn into a video game free for all. So I figure a little scheduled activity that gets us out and about is a good thing.

I will be mentioning some good, local, summer camp options in and about Westport Connecticut over the next few days. Westport Public Schools are on a 2 hour delay today, Wednesday June 11, 2008. Due to last night’s storm, there are many downed tree limbs blocking various roads so buses cannot pass. For more information call the Westport School District hotline at (203) 341 – 1SNO.

Pinnocchio: The Musical is coming to a town near Westport Connecticut! Presented by the Connecticut Family Theatre and Sacred Heart University’s Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts Pinocchio: The Musical is a wonderful show for children of all ages.

The Music Shop will be performed by the Connecticut Opera for children in grades 3 to 12. This performance is free and is a wonderful introduction to the world and art of opera.
