Report from WGI Advisory Board Meetings

WGI directors and instructors met this past weekend to consider numerous proposals submitted for consideration to the Color Guard and Percussion Advisory Boards. Representatives gathered in Las Vegas and were treated to a welcome reception Friday evening featuring a welcome by President Ed Devlin, an acknowledgement of the 2013 Hall of Fame inductees, and a presentation by Executive Director Ron Nankervis. Each advisory board then began separate meetings to discuss various topics such as contest policies and rules as well as have philosophical discussions how color guards and percussion ensembles are adjudicated. One of the responsibilities of each advisory board is to elect representatives from each division to the WGI Board of Directors. This body is comprised of 14 color guard and percussion representatives along with at-large directors and is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the organization. Color guard representatives elected to the board of directors for a two-year term are Dean Broadbent (Flanagan HS), Ed Devlin (Blessed Sacrament), Ruth Ann Medworth (Northview HS), Randy Nelson (Choctawhatchee HS), and Tim Newburn (Cypress Independent). Percussion representatives elected Don Click (Music City Mystique) and Mike Jackson (George Mason University). Steering Committee representatives were also elected at the meeting for a two-year term. Color Guard representatives chose Carol Abohatab (Santa Clara Vanguard) and Michael Gaines (Pride of Cincinnati) and the Percussion Advisory Board selected Tim Fairbanks (Rhythm X), Mike McIntosh (Gateway Indoor) and Sean Vega (Riverside City College). Open Class Finals Video Downloads Available

If your group is looking to hire a new color guard or drumline educator (director, designer, technician, etc.), or if you’re looking for a job in the indoor marching arts activities, post/find your position on the new WGI Jobs Board! While WGI.org is known to be the best resource to find news, event information, and educational resources for the indoor marching arts, it will now allow administrators of color guards and percussion ensembles the ability to post information about the positions they need to hire. Listings may be as specific or as general as needed. You can post multiple jobs available, and edit your listing when necessary. Educators looking for an ensemble to work with will find the WGI Jobs Board easy to search by location and type of jobs available. As the demand for indoor marching arts educators is on the rise, this is the place to find the applicants you need to help build your program, and job you need to build your career. Advisory Board Proposals Now Online

Each year the Color Guard and Percussion Advisory Boards consider proposals regarding rules and policies that govern WGI. Any color guard or percussion ensemble that participated in a 2013 WGI event may submit a proposal for consideration. Proposals are now published on WGI.org prior to the meetings for review and then voted upon by the respective advisory board.
