Cypress Independent’s "Ex Post Facto"

From a Cypress Independent press release

Each of us has that one, perfect moment in time; the standard by which we judge all else. It may be remembered fondly. It may be something we can never escape. How do you learn to move on when you just can’t let go?

Join the talented young men and women of Cypress Independent, as they explore the aftermath of intimacy in their 2012 production, Ex Post Facto. The need to move on, the desperation to forget, the impossibility of forgiveness, the fear of letting go, the strength of support and the missteps along the road to tomorrow.

Do you hide in the monotony of daily routine or will you find the courage to move forward with total abandon?

For some of us, it isn’t over.

Season Kick Off with CompetitionSuite

WGI Sport of the Arts is excited to get the 35th Anniversary Season started with CompetitionSuite, a revolutionary software system to tabulate color guard and percussion ensemble competitions while providing state of the art delivery of digital judge commentary to instructors and directors. The new system is one part of WGI's several new projects and objectives to benefits all performing ensembles in celebration of its 35th year of competition.

The need for an integrated software program that incorporates both tabulation features and easy access to digital judges’ commentary has been evident since WGI eliminated tapes in 2009. Up until now, there has been a separate two-step process at events to tabulate scores and then deliver digital media via a MP3 player or flash drive. This required instructors to drop off their player or flash drive and then return to a predetermined site to pick up their device after their performance. This new venture elminates that process and streamlines contest management.

Designed by Matt Becker, CompetitionSuite researched features that would make this a more user-friendly method not only for instructors but tabulators and contest administrators as well. This cloud-based product gives groups competing at WGI events the necessary tools at their fingertips to analyze their performance instantly using an internet connection at the contest site.

	Features of CompetitionSuite include:
	• •Elimination of MP3 players and CDs
	• •Access judge commentary by smart phone by logging into website
	• •Instructors can call a toll-free number for 12 hours after a contest to listen to judge commentary
	• •Ability to access judges commentary by multiple instructors at one time
	• •Text messaging notification of judge commentary when available
	• •Instructors can chart their progress against different groups and criteria
	• •Judges can access their own media through the web site

"Having seen all the features of CompetitionSuite, I have no doubt that this will be a radical improvement on how we handle scoring at our events," said Ron Nankervis, WGI Executive Director. "We are excited to partner with CompetitionSuite to provide our tabulation needs and are anxious to show all it has to offer to competing color guards and percussion ensembles."

Directors can learn how to access their group’s account on CompetitionSuite, here.

Flanagan HS Presents "Project Innocence"

From a Flanagan High School Color Guard press release

“One innocent person wrongfully convicted is one too many”

Today an innocent person is standing trial for a crime they didn’t commit. Today an innocent person is writing for help from a prison cell. There have been 289 people exonerated by DNA testing after serving an average of 14 years in prison or even worse on death row and thousands more still remain behind bars. For them the answer is the Innocence Project, an organization dedicated to exonerating wrongfully convicted individuals through DNA testing and reforming the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice. The increasing number of these cases and the need for awareness is the driving force behind the 2012 Flanagan H.S. production, “Project Innocence.”

Flanagan will be competing at the WGI Orlando Regional, WGI Southeastern Color Guard Championship, and WGI World Championships.
Staff includes: Dean Broadbent, Emma Roberts, Matt Winans, Evan Zubkovs, Sarah Cole, and Alex Savoy.
