Aman, you shall be missed...

2015-12-13T20:38:00.001+08:00

Aman left to India for good after serving us for a long 5 years and 10 months... She left due to family commitments...She called me 'didi' and there was much loyalty, love and sincerity in it... She took care of Kannan from his 6th month. She did her job diligently and with utmost professionalism... An epitome of hardwork, discipline and efficiency. She worked without complaining, she adviced children to listen to us, she obeyed all my instructions diligently...she packed food for me everyday...she didn't touch her mobile phone during the day time and would use it only after retreating to bedroom to sleep around 9 pm. When children disobeyed at times, she was hurt and when I was hurt she pacified me...while leaving, she told me to forgive all the mistakes she did,...but then I couldn't remember any...

A lovely gift from my teacher

2015-06-21T00:31:00.001+08:00

Teachers are one of the most influential figures in a persons life. Father Jacob Thekkemury has influenced my life beyond words. He triggered a philosophical thinking in me which was inherent but not expressed until then. He gained the affection of our class within no time and I used to look forward for his classes. They were at a realm beyond books. He could express his thoughts clearly and in detail and we could envision it effortlessly. He once said that beauty lies in doing ones duty. It has been a guiding light for me all through my life. He cared for us and we loved him much. Among the many inevitables after moving out of school I couldn't contact him though I knew his whereabouts from a dear friend.

Thanks to social media, I could talk to him again. I saw many of his books were published and wanted to read them as I knew they were gems. I requested a signed copy and he sent me the below. Words cannot express my feelings upon receiving them . This is an invaluable asset I would keep and cherish.

A Tribute to the Father of Singapore

2015-03-29T16:00:00.000+08:00

An year back when Aishwarya was given the topic 'My Superhero', to speak about in front of her class, I didn't have a second thought on who to write about and Aishwarya and myself agreed instantly. We decided to talk about Mr. Lee Kuan Yew. Today one of my wishes stand unfulfilled. My wish was to see him alive and I eluded the chances of seeing him lifeless the last few days. Today as I write this, its drizzling outside as if the nature is crying for one one of his greatest sons, one who loved nature and carved a nation into its glory. Its a farewell to a father who did his best to ensure that the generations to come shall thrive in prosperity. A father who wished the best and never settled for anything less than the best for his children.

Aishwarya came in the first five in her school, I am sure it was the conviction and the admiration of the great leader that gave her the power to achieve. Here is an excerpt:

My Superhero!!

"Heroes didn't leap tall buildings or stop bullets with an outstretched hand; they didnt wear boots and capes. They bled, and they bruised, and their superpowers were as simple as listening, or loving. Heroes were ordinary people who knew that even if their own lives were impossibly knotted, they could untangle someone else's." Said Jodi Picoult in her novel Second Glance. This could rightly be told about my superhero Mr. Lee Kuan Yew. Under this visionary's leadership Singapore transformed into a thriving metropolitan city in a mere three decades. He led Singapore to independence and served as its first prime minister. Under his guidance Singapore became a financial and industrial powerhouse.

Instead of being controlled by circumstances he made opportunities and circumstances. He inspired and motivated his subordinates by setting good example of a person with great integrity. His solid academic achievements were the foundation to his political success. He was termed as 'scholar" and an "intellectual" who had an excellent command over English language. "Masterful communication skill" is termed as a characteristic of a charismatic leader.

A hero is someone who has lived his inspirational life for us look up to and follow. Mr. lee has always placed service before self-interest. He believed in multiculturalism and high educational standards and it reflected in the society he created. Mr. Lee is a testimony to show what hard work, perseverance and discipline can achieve.

In a short sentence we could easily say that Mr. Lee created a tiny Island of few millions who constantly strive to improve. Thus he is my living Superhero who inspires me and smiles down at me from his picture rightfully placed in front of my study table.

Thank you!
