Fifteen of the 26 state capitals defined the new mayor in the first round of municipal elections. Of the 15 mayors elected, 13 managed to be re-elected in the election this Sunday (5). Other 11 capitals will have second round, held on 26 October.

Among  the capitals that will have the second round, only Belem has not established yet the two candidates. With 98.71% of the votes counted by 6:14 a.m. this Monday, Priante (PMDB) and Mario (PT) will compete against Duciomar Costa (PTB), current mayor.

Of the 20 mayors of the capital who sought re-election, 13 were re-elect in the first round and the other seven are guaranteed in the second round. The current mayor don’t competes for reelection in Belo Horizonte, Macapá, Natal, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and São Luís

Reelected

The first being elected in the capital was Beto Richa (PSDB), which received 77.27% of valid votes in Curitiba (PR). The performance of Richa was only exceeded by Cicero Almeida (PP), who was reelected in Maceió with 81.49% of valid votes.

In Aracaju, Edvaldo Nogueira (PC do B) was reelected with 51.72% of valid votes (140,962). In Boa Vista, Iradilson Sampaio (PSB) received 54.35% of the valid votes. In Campo Grande, Nelson Trad Filho (PMDB) obtained 71.41%.

Five of the 13 are from capital of the northeastern region. Apart from Aracaju and Maceio, the mayors were re-elected Ricardo Coutinho (PSB) in João Pessoa; Luizianne Lins (PT), in Fortaleza, and Silvio Mendes (PSDB) in Teresina.

It was also re-elect Raul Filho (PT) in Palmas; John Coser (PT) in Vitoria, Iris Rezende (PMDB), in Goiania, Roberto Sobrinho (PT) in Porto Velho, and Raimundo Angelim (PT) in Rio Branco.

Many people said that the dog would stay the same size as in this picture. I would like to have a dog that is smaller than a soda can.

I promised my wife that by next sprint we will buy one dog or maybe bring one from Brazil next time we go there. [way cheaper in Brazil]

Some people say that dog is the man’s best friend, but I don’t know if this is true. Lately I’ve seen so many cases of dogs killing people.

I don’t like the idea of having a pitbull or Rottweiler in my backyard. Those type of dogs if not well training tend to get mad at everybody and start to destroying everything in front of them.

The number of violent dogs on the street increase because many of the Jiu Jitsu fighter want to have one to show off. They thought that having a killer dog would show people that they are killer fighter as well. I don’t believe in this BS, I think the guys who have this dogs just use them to protect themselves.

The situation in Brazil was so bad not so long ago that some states banned those type of dogs. If you want to have one of them you’ll need a special license for it.

The world population is the total number of humans on Earth at a given time. As of May 2008, the world’s population is believed to be just over 6.7 billion. In line with population projections, this figure continues to grow at rates that were unprecedented before the 20th century, although the rate of increase has almost halved since its peak, which was reached in 1963, of 2.2 percent per year. The world’s population, on its current growth trajectory, is expected to reach nearly 9 billion by the year 2050.

The Muslims are only (roughly) 1.4 billion (20% of world population). The christians are more than 2 billion (33% of world population). The article only compared Roman catholics who are 1.3 billion to Muslims. A better comparison would be comparing Roman Catholicism to Sunni Islam (85-90% of Muslims) to see which is the most populous religious sect. Right now Sunnis are around 1.2 billion but are increasing much faster than Roman catholics, so maybe they will overtake them after 10 years or so. Muslims will certainly overtake christians numberwise (if trends continue unchanged) sometime in the third quarter of this century.

Since I moved to U.S. 4 years ago this is the first time I feel my English is getting bad. When I got in here I went to school for 9 months to learn English then I took two more different courses to get better. After all these stuff I thought I still was not ready to talk to people.

After I leave school my grammar was very good however I wasn’t able to talk to people, that probably happened because I’m shy and I didn’t want to fail. I didn’t want to look bad in front of people I didn’t know.

Most of the time my brain created the right sentence but when I spoke the words kind of changed the order and the people I was speaking to got totally confused.

Then one day I read an article that said “Speak Up! Lose your fear of speak to people”, in that article the writer explained how to talk to people even though you don’t know all the words. He said that if you wait until you master the grammar to talk to someone you’ll die and this time will never come. He also gives advice on how useful can be watch TV News and TV series to learn words and slang.

After I read that article I realized that I was wasting my time in books and I had to go out and speak to people. It was not an easy task but I did. It helped me a lot to improve my English. I still have to improve a lot.

Another barrier I had when I was trying to learn was that in my first two years in U.S. I mostly worked with people that speak Portuguese and Spanish. I learned Spanish first than I learned English. The only good thing about it was that I was able to pick up girls who speak Spanish, other than that Spanish didn’t help me at all.

In one hand It’s so comfortable to speak our native language(Portuguese in my case) in a foreign country, on the other hand if you do that very often you won’t be able to learn and master the foreign language and it’ll be a big barrier to be a successful person.

If you are learning a new language never give up. Remember that everything takes time and a lot of hard work.
