Oh, my.

I know jumpsuits are a big trend at the moment - which is one of the reasons I don't like them! I just do not see this as a sophisticated look. It's an awkward silhouette on anyone. Jumpsuits, like " onesies, " are best left for children and prisoners.

If I could cut this jumpsuit in half, the top as a blouse tucked into slim trousers would be quite nice. Or a slim knee length skirt.

I like the jewelry. It's delicate enough, yet dramatic.
Chunky jewelry would have made this look even more of a disaster.

The hairdo is a bit too Elvis inspired for my taste.

Michelle Obama Is Stunning At State Dinner For Chinese President

Michelle - always game for a delightful risk and embracing the unexpected.

The color red signifies luck and happiness ( can never have too much of either ) in traditional Chinese culture.

Though red not necessarily my favorite color, I have to give kudos for this superb choice. The lines of this gown are soft, feminine, and the pattern chic and modern. The color is lovely on Michelle. I like the choice of a wrap on a smaller, more delicate scale that does not over power.

In all, a very flattering and pretty silhouette.

Mrs. Obama Arrives in Hawaii

Well - this is a ( nice ) departure from the T-shirt and dowdy, unflattering shorts ensemble worn on the plane last family trip.

Pretty color, without being too electric. Empire styles can often look too maternity, so one must be careful. It has to be just the right cut, fit, and fabrication.

This dress, not taken too seriously, lends itself to a "mature sundress" look. It's not bad.

I do have to add that, though I love turtlenecks, I am not a huge fan of a boat neck cut. It's just awkward, too much fabric, without being here nor there.

Aaaah! So refreshing. Love the classy, soft, grey hue to this ensemble. The flounced ruffle is a super feminine detail, and not over the top.

I love the hair as well. It's sleek and modern looking, and face flattering.

Well, this ensemble is just a plain old mess. What is Mrs. Obama thinking when she puts stuff like this together?!

The ruffled blouse is too stiff in fabrication, making it overwhelming. Ruffles on a blouse can be lovely and feminine, but work best in a silk crepe - like fabric. So we don't even really have to address putting a cardigan over - it's just more unnecessarybulk and sloppiness. The belt, alas, sure does not help. Again, just too much.

The only way the skirt, with that intense pattern, could look sophisticated and chic would be with a simple black or white tank or tee, and flat or low heeled sandals or ballet flats. The pumps just polish off the misery of it all - simply not the right style shoe.

Michelle Obama Sparkles at CHCI Dinner

Though I am not really a big fan of boat-necks (can look too heavy and awkward), or Michael Kors (heavy and awkward - just kidding) who tends to bore me a bit with all of the rehashed stuff he puts out (like Ralph Lauren), this dress is a classy move.

Like I always say - black always works, and the simple clean lines and sparkle of this frock are right on for a sophisticated, distinct, evening look while not going over the top or looking like Mrs. Obama tried too hard.

Aaaah...

Talk about hitting the nail on the head. This Jason Wu dress, worn on July 27, is just sublime.

I love the freshness of this look. The color blocking gives this frock a stylish, mod feel that can't go wrong. The cut gives Mrs. Obama a whittled waist, with just enough pleat detail and ease at the hips for the perfect silhouette. Uncomplicated and clean - no ridiculous jeweled accessories or clunky belts. So easy! This is how fashion should always be.

The white Michael Kors frock worn July 21 is a classic, pretty, quintessential Summer dress choice.

One can never go wrong with timeless fashion. And there is a lot to be said for being able to just slip on a dress, and not have to worry about being encumbered with all kinds of accessories in order to make a look work. A sophisticated dress makes a great statement, and the right dress makes it effortless.

Michelle Obama is Fashion Forward in Ghana

Finally! It's been a while since I have seen Michelle Obama hit the fashion mark with a pulled together, "chic in its simplicity" look.

Mrs. Obama, upon her arrival in Ghana, is right on in this black ( always fashionable ) sheath dress. The cut is just perfect,and I love the squared off sleeveless neckline. She looks timeless and polished.

Accenting with just pearls keeps the look clean. One does not have to be laden down with all kinds of accessories to look stylish. Less is more.

Mrs. Obama's Floral Talbot's number and peach colored Narciso Rodriguez ensemble, worn upon arrival in Russia, were not on the mark.

Though I usually love Narciso - his clean lines with just enough edginess - this look does not work on a couple of levels. First - The belt is creating an awkward silhouette. "Empire" is a lovely, historic style. A dress or top, with the proper cut/seaming details lends itself to a feminine, flattering style for many body types. Mrs. Obama's creation is neither here nor there, Creating an "almost empire" look over the long jacket with the Sonia Rykiel belt. It is messy, and ends up concocting a maternity look. Simply too much bulk. I will add that the peachy color is very pretty on her.

And the Talbot's dress - well, it is reminiscent of a couch in a summer home somewhere in the country. Too much intense floral going on, and again, that belt, over an open cardigan, is ungraceful (isn't it uncomfortable? ). A thinner belt at the waist, with a fitted, more cropped length cardigan worn over , would have been better. I do love the idea of a kitten heel shoe. The elegant look of a higher heel - but far more practical.

Mrs. Obama is pictured after touring the Unity Health Care Upper Cordozo Health Center in Washigton.

The jacket is a bit of a mess. A cropped, too structured (did not think I would ever say that!) kimono thing. It looked heavy, and overwhelming, even for Mrs. Obama's lovely broad shoulders.

I understand Mrs. Obama is trying to be fashion forward, which is great - but this look ends up reading as sloppy. And what's with the silver Givenchy belt? It certainly does not improve upon or pull this look together. It would be a fine accessory if she was a space explorer.

The pants are okay. I like that the style has a drape and flow to it. Very flattering and feminine for any body type, especially someone with curves - but she could have done better with this look/cut.

Mrs. Obama attended the kickoff to The National Community Service Campaign wearing a plain black cardigan with a strange looking blouse/underpinning.

The pattern of the blouse was fine, but the fit and the excessively long side slits made her look "hippy." The side slit detail can be just fine in a garment, but this particular top is just out of proportion for Mrs. Obama's body type.

The too tight cropped black pants did not help this look (it appears as though she grew out of them). Let's not even discuss the sneakers, better suited for her daughters!

Casual dressing does not have to mean unflattering.

Michelle Obama is Simply Chic at CFDA

Michelle Obama has won the Council of Fashion Designers Award (CFDA). She accepted wearing a tailored white shirt, with a double strand of pearls. Though this is a very conservative look, she is a study in simplicity and chic sophistication. That says it all for timeless, effortless fashion, and that look suits every age, shape and budget.
