It’s a behind-the-scenes look at the team who make a nightly cable-news show, and as you’d expect from Mr Sorkin, there’s plenty of politics, verbal sparring and power struggles. The amazing cast includes Jeff Daniels as an outspoken anchorman, Emily Mortimer as his very determined producer, Sam Waterston as an old-school journalist and Jane Fonda as the executive holding the purse strings.

It begins on HBO in the USA on 24 June, but there’s no word on whether anyone on this side of the pond is taking the bait yet. BBC’s The Hour showed there’s an audience for programmes about the people behind the news (and series two of that is due to air later this year), so hopefully someone here will pick it up soon!

The end is nigh for TV’s grumpiest doc – we celebrate eight fantastic seasons of House and find out what’s in store for Hugh Laurie and the rest of the show’s stars.

When a man’s dead body turns up naked in the bed of Doc Robbins’ wife, the detectives try to ‘just work the scene’ without bringing their prejudices to the table – but the case looks very much like one of Death-During-Adultery.

Carrie’s personal and professional lives collide when she meets her boyfriend Steve’s parents and other mob related friends at the opening of his restaurant. She is subsequently and taken off a case because of guilt by association

Last one! Frank must race to stop a biological weapons attack on New York City while keeping it a secret from his family during their most sentimental holiday, Mother’s Day. Meanwhile, a long-standing conflict between Danny and Jamie comes to a head.

Theon embarks on a hunt as he tries to prove his Ironborn status. Dany receives an invitation to the House of Undying, which could prove useful to her cause, and Jaime Lannister meets a distant relative among Robb Stark’s captives.

Michael pursues two different cases in his different realities, both revolving around a dead man named Bernard MacKenzie. Meanwhile, he suggests that Hannah embrace some of her dead son’s belongings rather than ignore them, which leads to a surprising discovery.

Dexter finds himself teamed up with a fellow Dark Passenger when he takes a road trip to Nebraska to tie up some loose ends from the past, and; Debra deals with the complications of her promotion as she leads the Doomsday investigation.

We’re particularly impressed with how seriously he seems to be taking his new role – frankly, if we could persuade him to be a regular on TV&Satellite Week, we’d create an advice column especially!

Galactic fighter pilot, dogged detective, and now dishy doctor – yes, Jamie Bamber has landed a part in David Kelley’s new medical drama, the not particularly catchily titled Monday Mornings, alongside an impressive cast which includes Ving Rhames and Alfred Molina.

The show will be set in Portland, Oregan, and will centre around the professional and personal lives of five surgeons. Other cast members include Southland‘s Emily Swallow, Glee‘s Keong Sim, and three faces less well known to British audiences – Sarayu Rao, Bill Irwin and Jennifer Finnigan.

It’s being shown in the US on TNT, and we’re really hoping someone picks it up on this side of the Atlantic soon. No word yet on whether Bamber and Molina will be shedding their British accents in favour of something more local. Watch this space!

The always classy Rupert Penry-Jones is our cover star this week, and we’re very excited about the return of his legal drama Silk. He argues the case about why you should be tuning in to the new series, which features new stars Frances Barber and Phil Davis alongside regulars Maxine Peake and Neil Stuke.

The third series of the Emmy award-winning Breaking Bad, which has yet to be screened on UK TV, is coming to DVD on Monday 14 May.

Even though his cancer’s in remission, chemistry teacher-turned-meth maker Walter White (Bryan Cranston) still can’t catch a break. His wife (Anna Gunn) has filed for divorce, his DEA agent brother-in-law (Dean Norris) is out to bust him and a Mexican cartel just wants him dead. But Walt is cooking up a new deal that will hopefully make him a fortune.

The 11-part series takes place 14 months on from hurricane Katrina with the residents of Crescent City, New Orleans, finding it harder to rebuild their lives – especially with crime being on the increase, and corruption drying up money intended for recovery.
