DEVOTED:

  • to the Lord
  • to one another

Acts 2:42-47

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. (NIV)

They steadfastly persevered, devoting themselves constantly to the instruction and fellowship of the apostles, to the breaking of bread [including the Lord's Supper] and prayers. (AMPLIFIED)

They then devoted themselves to being taught God’s Word by the apostles and to sharing their lives with one another in love. They were also committed to the breaking of bread, recalling all that Christ had done for them, and to praying together. (THE TRUTH)

John 13:34-35

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.  (NIV)

Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. (NLT)

When you do this everyone will see that you are truly My disciples; they will know this because of your love for each other.  (THE TRUTH)

Devote – Give entirely to a specific person, activity or cause; give priority to; pay attention to

And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. (NIV)

The root of devotion is LOVE!!!

They steadfastly persevered, devoting themselves constantly to the instruction and fellowship of the apostles, to the breaking of bread [including the Lord’s Supper] and prayers.

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

Devoted to the WORD WHBC Vision – The Bible is our Foundation 2011 Goal – To read the entire Bible in a year This year as we “delight” ourselves in the Word, taking time to read morning, noon and night (Psalm 1), declare over yourself the promises that you will be fruitful, you won’t dry up spiritually and you will prosper! In Deuteronomy 6:6-9 we are commanded to “impress” the word on our children and on one another. So in our households, let’s fill the atmosphere with the Word of life as we remind ourselves of all He has done. Devoted to FELLOWSHIP WHBC Vision – The Church is our Family 2011 Goal – To see 80% strongly connected to a Life Group In Galatians 5:6  we read that the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.  Love ensures our faith never gives up, always thinks well of others and is highly effective.  See 1 Corinthians 13:1 Love in Action – our love needs to be practical and we are encouraging each one of us this year to reach out to others.   Throughout this year we would like you to nominate those who have given self-less random acts of love. Devoted to BREAKING BREAD WHBC Vision – The Church is our Family 2011 Goal – To break bread in our homes & eat together every month The early church didn’t just “do” communion, “they broke bread in their homes and ate together”.  Hebrews 13:2 says “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels...” Let’s make this a year when we open up our homes at least once a month and practice hospitality.  Every 3rd Sunday of the month we will be encouraging everyone to do this. Devoted to PRAYER WHBC Vision – The World is our Field 2011 Goal – To see strong corporate prayer that affects our city, region, nation & the world As we pray for Manchester & Salford we believe that as we give them our blessing they will prosper as promised in Proverbs 11:11. As we pray for our missionaries we are believing that the word will spread rapidly and be honoured as promised in 2 Thessalonians 3:1. All of this leads to ... WHBC Vision – The Harvest is our Function!! And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved Acts 2:47 As the early church devoted themselves to these four areas and gave them priority in their lives they saw the church grow in favour as well as in numbers. Commit to reading the entire Bible in a year – download the Make time for household devotions Join a Life Group Practice hospitality Be devoted to prayer We are also believing that ...
