Conan O'Brien (Celtics fan) led off his Monday night monologue talking about the Jason Collins story that was all over the sports world that day. He said the same joke that was said by just about 2 million people on Twitter earlier in the day, but since it was on Conan, we'll let you hear it again, after the jump.

"Today, Jason Collins of the Washington Wizards announced he was gay. That's a big story. He said "I don't know what's been tougher on my family, announcing I'm gay, or announcing that I play for the Washington Wizards."

Bradley Beal, Cardinals Fan, Watches His Team Beat The Nats

It is no secret that Bradley Beal (From St. Louis) is a Cardinals fan trapped in a Nationals world. He always openly cheers for his favorite team despite the fact that many of Washington Wizards fans are not big fans of the St. Louis Cardinals (this may be the reason why).

Beal spent his Monday night in the good seats behind home plate at Nats Park cheering for his favorite team as they beat the Nationals once again. Here's his photo from the game he shared with everyone on Twitter:

John Wall Throws Out First Pitch At Nats Game, Hangs With Gio Gonzalez

Once upon a time, John Wall threw one of the worst first pitches by a non-mayor of all time (see below). On Thursday night, the point guard was given a second chance before the Washington Nationals took on the Chicago White Sox. Wall walked over to the mound with a nervous look and...

...lobbed a strike over the plate to Nats pitcher Gio Gonzalez who was catching. A pitch that caused announcer FP Santangelo to call Wall a "pie tosser"

After the Folly Floater, Wall hugged Gio and walked towards the dugout while Gonzalez heckled him for his pitch. Then Screech jumps in, and gives Wall a hug.

The Wizards and the Capitals have had several conflicts this season. In some of them the Wizards or Caps are put on CSN+ while the other team gets the regular CSN treatment. However, every time this happens fans on Twitter flip out and start cursing the team that they don't want to watch.

Today's rage comes from Caps fans who feel like the Caps should ALWAYS be on regular CSN despite being in a similar place in the standings as the Wizards. (The Caps are 11th in the East, the Wizards are 10th in the East)...OK, so the Wizards can't make the playoffs and the Caps are only a few out, I get it. But you probably get both stations, and the games on are not determined by record, so WHO CARES which one it is on!

I've got 2 TVs right next to each other, so I get to watch both games. Here are some people who don't, or who don't want to. RAGE!!!

I'd question people's fanhood since they should already have had this problem before, but even I forget the 2nd channel number sometimes when the guide tells me false things. In fact the other night in Fairfax, CSN+ had Sportscenter on and I went crazy. Later I switched back and they finally put the Wizards game on. So who knows what is going on.

BTW, if you don't like both the Caps & the Wizards, you are missing 82 awesome nights in a boring and cold winter.

Kevin Seraphin Has A Meme Problem, Requires Intervention

Nowadays all the guys in the NBA are on Instagram. They post pictures of themselves, pictures of the gym, pictures of their shoes, pictures of the club, and everything else that nobody really cares about.

Kevin Seraphin does all that (see here). So don't worry. However, he also is obsessed...with terrible memes. How do I know. Because ever 10 seconds my Instagram feed has a new entry. A Seraphin meme post. And 90% of them are "Bitches Be Like" or "N***** Be Like", which is great for the kids.

John Wall Ejected For Threatening Klay Thompson

John Wall was getting frustrated early on in Golden State on Saturday night. Wall earned a technical foul with 5 minutes left in the first quarter, and after Klay Thompson fouled Wall hard twice in the 3rd quarter, Wall had enough.

Thompson gave Wall a small elbow at the end of the play sending Wall to the floor like he was a ragdoll. (it wasn't that hard a shot). Wall got up and walked over to Klay Thompson, got in his face, and started warning him that if he takes it to the hoop, that Wall would "knock his ass out".

Adult Senior Skip Day 2k13 & The March Madness Sniffle Schedule

This Thursday is the opening day of the NCAA Tournament. No, I will not call it the second round. Even though my college, JMU, made their first tournament since 1994 I will not accept that Play-In games count. Call me when you get to the real first round JMU!

Thursday is basically a holiday to me. I am typically flying out to Vegas to drop some major +900 cash. However, some years my budget and lack of planning leave me stuck in the DMV.

That is why we are doing the 2nd annual DC Sports Nexus March Madness Adult Senior Skip Day! A day where you take off from work, and join us at Hard Times Cafe in Clarendon to watch some awesome b-ball.

So how are you supposed to watch the most exciting day of basketball if you have a job?

The key is to be smart. I take a scheduled half day on Thursday and Friday. Work 8am-noon both days. That way I only technically take 1 day off but get to watch all the games both days.

If I've got the days to spare, I just take the entire day off. That way I can sleep in til noon and be rested and ready for a full day of bball magic. This is my typical course of action.

But what happens if you didn't take those days off in advance? What if you forgot this year!? What do you do?

March Madness Sniffle Schedule

This is actually me...

Simple, It's called the March Madness Sniffle Schedule:

Monday: Mention to your boss that you stayed in all weekend to take care of your sick girlfriend/wife who had the flu. "She had it really bad, was in bed for 3 days" Planting the seeds...

Tuesday: Begin fake sniffling every time your boss walks by. Strategically sneeze 3 times during the day when the boss is near. If he asks if you are feeling OK, ensure him that you are. "I've been taking Vitamin C, I should be good" Lol..liar!

Wednesday: Bring a box of tissues to your desk, have cough medicine visible on the desk. Progressively increase your sneezing/nose blowing. At some point in the day the boss will probably ask if you want to go home because you don't look so well. Do not. Say in a nasally voice "I'll power through it, it isn't that bad" Power through...

Thursday: Set 2 alarms. The 7am alarm, and the 12pm alarm. When the 7am alarm goes off, wake up and immediately dial in to work. The fact that you just woke up and are groggy will help your voice sound extra sick. "I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon, Hopefully I'll get some medicine that works and I'll be back tomorrow" ... hopefully...

Then, when the 12pm alarm goes off, wake up, head to the bar or turn on the TV, and enjoy.

*Note: A rookie mistake is to repeat Thursday's call in sick again on Friday morning. This is not good. You don't want to be waking up at 7am. You need your sleep. There are going to be upsets and you are going to need a full night's rest. That is why you preemptively call in sick on Thursday night. Email your boss. "The doctor said I have the flu. I feel absolutely terrible. I'm not going to be able to come in tomorrow" ... BAM Mission Accomplished.

Friday: Set 1 alarm. Wake up at noon. Enjoy the Madness... "onions"

Monday: When your boss asks if you watched any games explain that you were sleeping all weekend. You saw a few games but couldn't keep your eyes open. Did you get to catch that big upset? "I fell asleep at halftime" Damn! you missed the greatest game ever! ... or did you ;)....

Unveiling The Wizard With Martell Webster

Martell Webster threw down a two handed jam during the Wizards 96-87 victory over the New Orleans Hornets on Friday night at Verizon Center. Martell was pumped up and he crossed his arms across the front of his jersey looking like he was doing some spinoff of the superman move that is all the rage with guys like Cam Newton and Dwayne Wade.

During the closing minutes of the Washington Wizards wednesday night 106-93 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, J.J. Redick was fouled and headed to the line for 2 shots. With a big Wizards lead and the Verizon Center having fun for a change, the crowd was quite fired up for the occasion.

Let's take a listen to what happened:

The fans serenaded the former Duke Blue Devil and ACC/All Basketball villain with a very loud and audible "JJ Sucks! JJ Sucks!" chant much to the delight of Martell Webster who encouraged the fans to keep up the noise. The TV coverage panned the laughing/cheering crowd as Redick missed his first foul shot after the chant. Chant Don't Lie!

Steve Buckhantz and Phil Chenier found it quite amusing as well. Here's what they were saying:

I jumped out of my bed screaming like a maniac. I fell to the floor, arms raised in victory. As Steve Buckhantz' "Dagger" rang out from my TV I smiled. I rolled around on the ground doing mini-fist pumps on the floor with my eyes closed, as if I was the NBA champion.

Then, all of a sudden, from out of nowhere, Buckhantz stopped talking. I looked up at my TV and saw the Pistons celebrating. What happened!?

I watched as Comcast showed the instant replay of the Wizards game winner. It didn't go in. It didn't even hit the rim. It was an AIRBALL?!

1. Jordan Crawford's Academic Ineligibility:

Before heading to Virginia's famous Hargrave Military Academy, Jordan Crawford started his high school career in his hometown of Detroit. Crawford played for Communication and Media Arts High School where he struggled with his grades and injury. According to Joe La Pointe of the New York Times:

"He missed most of his senior season of high school after breaking an ankle in the first game. His previous seasons were interrupted because of academic ineligibility.

2. Jordan Crawford Arrested For Stealing A Cell Phone:

After the 2007-08 basketball season, following a scandal with Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson, Jordan Crawford transferred from Indiana University to Xavier. Per NCAA rules, J-Craw would have to sit out a full season.

Crawford appealed to the NCAA, but he lost and was forced to sit out the 2008-09 season. Crawford utilized some of the extra time he had by doing something we all have done. Stealing a cell phone at a mall in Cincinnati, according to Cincinnati.com.

The following is an excerpt from Cincinnati.com writer Shannon Russell* posted on October 20th, 2009. The "he" is Jordan Crawford and the "Mack" she is referring to is former Xavier coach Chris Mack.

"Last October, he was charged with stealing a $419 cell phone at Kenwood Towne Centre. He completed a diversion program through the courts and Mack said former XU coach Sean Miller handled the matter internally."

Jordan was charged by the State of Ohio with theft*, a first degree misdemeanor, but the charge was dismissed in November of 2009 after Crawford participated in a diversion program. According to Russell, the matter was dealt with internally by former coach Sean Miller who moved on to Arizona to replace Lute Olson in the 2009 offseason before Mack took over.

Not sure where the writer got the "last October" line from as the court documents suggest he was charged in January of 2009, but that's besides the point (and maybe why the article has disappeared).

3. Crawford Removed From Starting Lineup Of Crosstown Classic For Disciplinary Reasons:

In 2009, Jordan Crawford's first season of eligibility at Xavier, the guard was scratched from the starting lineup of the team's hyped up "Crosstown Classic", a matchup between Xavier and rival Cincinnati by coach Chris Mack for disciplinary reasons as reported by Joe LaPointe of the New York Times*:

"This season, playing for Chris Mack, his fifth college coach, Crawford did not start against Cincinnati for disciplinary reasons but scored 16 points in an 83-79 double-overtime victory Dec. 13"

As you can tell by recent versions of this matchup (see 2011 brawl here), this is not just a typical rivalry, it is a battle, and a game you do not want to be benched from the starting lineup for. In fact, Crawford got in a heated shouting match with a Cinci player and was accessed a technical foul in the 2009 version.

According to his coach, Crawford took the event as a learning experience. From the same New York Times article:

“He got the message that everyone needs to come to practice, work hard and be accountable,” Mack said. “There aren’t any separate rules for one player.”

4. Crawford Removed From Starting Lineup For Wizards Team Rule Violation:

Earlier this season (2012-13), Jordan Crawford was removed from the starting lineup once again, this time on the NBA level by Wizards coach Randy Wittman in a December game against the Cavs. According to a Twitter report by Comcast's Chris Miller, Crawford was late for a shootaround and was benched for violating the team rules.

5. Crawford Exhibits Bad Attitude On Wizards Bench:

The final straw of Jordan Crawford's career as a Washington Wizard played itself out in front of all Wizards fans. Crawford spent his final game for DC on the bench acting like an idiot and abandoning his team, and Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post compiled the actions.

Michael Lee of the Washington Post wrote the following about Crawford on the bench:

"He yawned, cracked a few jokes, and had his embarrassing DNP-CD highlighted when some fans began chanting his name for almost a minute at the end of the third quarter."

Two days later, Crawford was traded to the Boston Celtics. Good Riddance...

Brad Beal Does A Flip Lands On His Head, Returns To Game

On Thursday, Bradley Beal collided with teammate Cartier Martin in practice, causing Beal to chip his teeth. On Friday Beal was playing hard and taking some pain again.

On this scary play from Friday night's Wizards victory over the Denver Nuggets Brad Beal jumps up for a block, gets hit in the leg, and then topples over landing directly on his head. Beal was on the floor for a minute or so, walked to the bench, and a minute later he was back on the floor.

Chris Miller from Comcast Sports spoke to Beal about the fall following the game. Beal's quote:

"I was tryin' to block the shot, Ty Lawson ended up headfaking...it was just one of those things, he really couldn't move so I really can't be mad at him. It was just a bad fall, I ended up falling on my head and everything"

Beal ended with "Go Hard or Go Home!" Agreed.

Wizards Law; What can Go Wrong.....

The Wizards looked lethargic coming off the All-Star break dropping their first game of the second half of the season 96-88 against the Raptors in D.C. Tuesday night.

Not only did Washington look like a team still on vacation but even the Verizon Center had troubles. With a broken scoreboard the stadium was forced to use an air-horn and a make shift high school scoreboard with shot clocks on the corners of the court. Only in Washington.

But in the scoreboard's defense, who would show up to see a team play as poorly as the Wizards did Tuesday night? Despite being down only five in the fourth quarter Washington never really stood a chance in an ugly effort from Randy Wittman's team.

Bradley Beal led the team with 25 and Martell Webster had 16 as both drained three shots from beyond the arc. After that it's tough to find positives on a night that saw John Wall commit more turnovers than assists (7-6).

With the majority of the Wizards having a rough night Wittman opted not to play Jordan Crawford or Jan Vesely and gave less than five minutes to Chris Singleton and Kevin Seraphin. Crawford, who is the speculation of many trade talks hasn't played significant minutes since January.

Crawford also threw his jersey to the crowd after the game. Maybe he already knows he's gone or maybe he was just giving the fans, who were chanting his name, what they wanted.

Raptors Broadcaster Matt Devlin Vs Wale, Drake Is Better

On Tuesday night in Washington during the Wizards vs Raptors matchup, DMV rapper Wale kept himself in NBA news. Just a few days after getting heckled on the air for wearing a vest/hooded fur coat during the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, Wale took offense to comments by Toronto announcers at Verizon Center and walked over and confronted them from the stands, specifically angry at Matt Devlin.

Wale was yelling at Rudy Gay during the game and it caused the Raps announce team to begin heckling Wale on the air a little bit because it was annoying them.

"And supposedly this fan is well known local rapper Wall-Ay, locally here...Wale is inspiring, and I'm sure somebody on Twitter could tell me, if they've ever heard of Wale, he's not Drake, and that's for sure" -Raptors Broadcaster Matt Devlin

Wale was not happy and went a few feet away from the broadcasters to voice his displeasure. You can hear the Raptors guys get rattled when Wale comes up in the video. So Awkward.
