2012 was a great year to be a Bengals fan! They made the playoffs in back to back years for the first time in 30 years. That’s amazing. The Bengals are an up and coming team STILL and they play in a division where the rest of the players are turning into grumpy old men. Ed Reed, Troy Palamalu can’t play forver. Its guys like Ray Rice, Antonio Brown, Mike Wallace that scare me in the AFC North. We get it, the playoff outcome is not what he had hoped for but let’s be real here fans. It could be a LOT worse. The last time we spoke the Bengals needed to beat Pittsburgh to get into the postseason. Check. They also needed to beat the Ravens to clinch double digit wins for the third time under Marvin Lewis. Check. Now the Bengals have a prime opportunity to end their most daunting streak, winning a postseason game for the first time in forever. The Bengals are facing a familiar postseason foe, the Houston Texans. This same Houston Texans team that knocked them out of the postseason one year ago. Can the Bengals get over the hump? Or will it be the same postseason debacle we’ve seen in the Marvin Lewis era? One and Done. Let’s hope they figure it out Saturday!

This is it. This is the THE statement game of all statement games. Beat the Steelers in THEIR house to earn a spot in the postseason. You want to be considered one of the best teams in the AFC, scratch that, the AFC NORTH you must win this game. Otherwise its another year of the same old Bengals. The Bengals backed in a year ago by losing their last game against Baltimore. There’s little hope of the Steelers losing next week against the Browns. This group of Bengals, like years past in 2005, 2009 need to win on Sunday and make the statement that the Bengals are in fact contenders in the AFC North, postseason and beyond.

That one may come back to haunt the Bengals. Up 19-10 in the 4th quarter at home to a team riddled with injuries and emotionally spent. A team with one of the worst run defenses in the league yet the Bengals abandoned the run game. Dropped catches, dropped INT’s, missed tackles, ugh it was just not the Bengals day Sunday. Well it wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win and that’s all that matters at this time of year. The Bengals historically have not played well on the West Coast but to win in SD despite not having your best day on offense is a huge step for this team. Have to give it up to this defense though. They have allowed only 1 TD in the last 3 games, a fluke TD in garbage time vs the Raiders. Now “America’s Team” comes to PBS and they are in need of a win just as much as the Bengals are. Here’s to hoping that the Bengals defense has a huge game against Romo, he’s due for a bad one!

It only took one pass play for the tone to be set Sunday. Palmer’s first dropback, BOOM, Geno Atkins threw him to the ground. At that point we ALL knew what kind of day it was going to be for Mr. Quitter himself. Speaking of quitting, did you see that Palmer’s Raider teammate Rolando McClain wants out of Oakland? Haha! Thanks for the draft picks. I’d much rather have the young talent we have now in Dalton and AJ Green. They’re going to be way better than Palmer and Ochocinco were.

The Bengals got a huge boost this weekend with a huge or shall we say, GIANT, win over the G-Men 31-13 Sunday at PBS. The tone was set early as Andy “Red” Dalton ended the game with an early strike to AJ Green to go up 7-0. Guess he had a pretty good idea about the size of those holes in the Giants secondary. Thank god we have the best WR in the game. Next up for the Bengals, a nice little jaunt to the middle of the country as they visit the struggling Kansas City Chiefs who are coming off an impressive 3 point overtime loss in Pittsburgh Monday night.

Well at least the Bengals were competitive in this one. For a while there it didn’t look great. After the 105 yard kickoff return to start the second half you start to wonder if this team will EVER get it together. Then they reel off 14 points to take the lead. It’s been a rough few weeks in the Queen City. I know that as Bengals fans we have endured years, and years, and years, and years of heartbreak. We’ve all grown tired of the losing. One might think that by now our fanbase should be used to the losing. But strangely, even more this year, the losing seems to sting just a bit more. Maybe its because we thought the franchise had turned the corner. I know its only 7 games, but to be 3-4 when this team could easily be 5-2 is well, ridiculous. Call me crazy, but I’m not sure ANY Bengals fans envisioned two straight losses to the Miami Dolphins and the Cleveland freakin Browns. It wasn’t that they lost that bothers most, it’s how they were lost. No mental toughness, no swagger, no desire. It was evident on Sunday in the 3rd quarter who wanted to win the game more. The Browns were hustling, flying around the ball and the Bengals just looked like they were going through the motions. Let’s hope that gets corrected because it’s Steelers Week! It wasn’t pretty during some points but the Bengals beat the Jaguars on their home field for the second time in two years 27-10 on Sunday. The offense and defense both came out flat to start the game. The sign of a good team is how you’re able to overcome poor starts and this Bengals TEAM has been able to do so far this season. The first half was sluggish offense couldn’t do anything and the defense was getting run over

Then comes the fake punt

After that the Bengals seemed to kick it into gear.

Dalton throws a TD pass in the first half to FB Chris Pressley

Sneaks in another TD Bengals had a 17-7 HT lead

Bengals get the ball to start the half, they go 8 plays and 79 yards before The Lawfirm coughs it up on the 1 yard line Jacksonville recovers. Unbelievable. The guy goes nearly 600 touches without a fumble and has 3 fumbles in the last two games.

Bengals d holds the Jags to a FG to make it 17-10. Then Dalton and Green poured it on. Connecting on an 18 yard pass early in the 4th qtr to make it 24-10. The Bengals tack on another FG after a Chris Crocker INT and the Bengals go on to win 27-10.

The defense with 6 sacks on the day, 2 by Atkins, Burfict gets his first sack of his career and led the team in Tackles with 8 all of them solo tackles.

BJGE with 82 yards on 26 carries – that is terrible! 3.2 per carry

Defense shut down MJD 13 carries for 38 yards.

The Bengals lined up on the first play of the game, in the Wildcat? Maybe we should call that the Bengal formation instead? Did the Bengals playbook get left back at PBS on Sunday? Wildcat? A fake field goal? Who are these Bengals? Either way, it was a welcomed sight for some of us! Many of us were wondering “well it’s about time!”. The Bengals emerged victorious 38-31 last week and now look ahead to a trip to the Sunshine State vs the Jags.

We welcome Mr. Number 1 Fan back to the program this week after spending a week with his family at the beach. Mickey was excited because despite being 12 hours from Cincinnati, he was still able to watch BOTH Bengals preseason games AND still catch the Reds vs the Cubs on WGN. The Bengals did get win number 2 of the preseason and the first team offense was finally able to muster up a touchdown vs the Falcons. What a whirlwind week it’s been to be a Bengals fan! News broke on Tuesday that former Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer had officially been traded to the Oakland Raiders for their first round pick in the 2012 draft, along with a 2nd round pick in 2013. Mike Brown was adamant about not rewarding Carson for not honoring his commitment, however it appears that the man had his price.

Scott Wright of DraftCountdown.com stops by the show this week to let us know just how much of an impact those draft picks will be and who we can expect the Bengals to be looking at with those picks.
