“Freedom (noun): the state of being free; personal liberty, as opposed to bondage or slavery; exemption from external control, interference or regulation."

We all know what freedom is supposed to look like. We all want the freedom to be able to express ourselves; freedom of speech; freedom to laugh; freedom to cry; freedom "to just be me”. After living in the Western world for almost a decade, and being bombarded with this notion of freedom, I begin to wonder if having a sense of liberty has only been categorized for a certain group of people in the world, and if these nations/people groups who have found “freedom” have become self-centered and self-absorbed with their own freedom.
It is easy to live in America or any other country where, as an individual, your freedom isn’t really being threatened, and find articles, news reports, and videos of slavery everywhere else in the world, and just feel bad; while thanking God that you or anyone else you know is not a victim. It is easy for us to disconnect ourselves from certain issues around the world, because to a certain extent, it is difficult to relate to.

We were not given freedom just so we could enjoy it. We were given freedom so we could enjoy it, and do whatever it takes to draw other people into the joy of being free. What can we do with our freedom, and how can we make our freedom count for something? I love Alli Mellon and the staff at Hard Places Community in Cambodia who are giving up themselves and using their freedom to make a difference in communities where freedom is a word that is barely understood. The world is broken. The world needs Jesus. And the world needs your hands and your feet to go and make a difference.

Freedom is not yours for the keeping, freedom is yours so you can fight for others. Freedom is yours to share with the rest of our broken world.
