We sold nearly 1,000 copies (!!!) at our recent Mom Heart conferences, so there is clearly a hunger to learn what God really says in His Word about childhood discipline. It’s time for all of us as Bible-believing Christian parents to take a fresh look at this sometimes fractious topic. I guarantee you will be challenged by this book, and I pray you will be encouraged and strengthened as a parent. The new version includes a full group discussion guide, so gather some friends and read and discuss the book together. An ebook version will be available soon for all major ebook platforms and providers.

Our attendance was up more than 30%, and enjoyment was up even higher. We loved being with everyone in each of the four states we visited. Thank you to all who came.

Now we’re on to thinking about the rest of 2013 and the 2014 Mom Heart Conferences. We are considering when to the Mom Heart Leader Intensive Training times here in CO to find an train new moms to be involved in Mom Heart as it grows. We are also considering a new event for families this fall, and where to do it. And we are cautiously considering how to offer an online Mominar for those who cannot attend our events. And we are beginning to tie down states and dates for the 2014 Mom Heart conferences. On top of all that, we’re in the process of building Mom Heart Online (momheart.org) into an online blog and community for moms, and soon making a makeover of Whole Heart Online (wholeheart.org) to turn it into a Christian home and parenting blog. And, of course, we are working on new books and materials to help you as a Christian parent. Stay tuned to WholeHeart.org and MomHeart.org to learn more about what’s ahead. We are pressing on in faith!

Dear Mom Heart Mother,

I am so pleased you will be joining us for the Mom Heart Conference at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel on February 22-23. This is our 16th year of Mom Heart Conferences! I pray that you will be encouraged, refreshed, and inspired as a mother from our time together. This has been a wonderful season of conferences so far, and we are glad we can return to Raleigh-Durham after missing last year. Listed below are important details you need to know before arriving at the hotel. Please read the entire letter to be sure you know what to expect so you can plan ahead. For additional information, you can also visit our ministry website at wholeheart.org, or contact Jennice at admin@wholeheart.org.

IMPORTANT

This Is Your Confirmation: This email is confirmation of your registration. If you know someone who is registered but did not receive this letter, please have them contact us immediately by email at admin@wholeheart.org (Subject: “Did Not Receive NC Pre-Conference Letter”).

NO “Day Of” Registrations: If you have a friend who hopes to come and maybe get in on the day of the event, please let them know we cannot guarantee a place if they wait. Have them call and register today.

Nursing Mothers: We are so glad you are able to join us, but we can accommodate little ones only with some necessary restrictions: (1) Please sit at the tables designated for nursing mothers; (2) for safety and liability reasons, and out of courtesy to other attendees, children are not allowed elsewhere in the ballroom; (3) no strollers, carriers, or blankets will be allowed in the ballroom area; (4) please use only one table space for you and your child; and (5) only infants and lap babies are allowed—absolutely no crawling or toddling children. Your table will be near an area with comfortable seating and floor space where you can be with your child and listen to the speakers, or go if your baby is being noisy.

ARRIVAL

Directions: The Sheraton Imperial Hotel is located at 4700 Emperor Blvd., Durham, NC 27703. There is also a link for a map and directions on the conference page on our website.

Conference Check-In: Check-in for the conference will begin at 1:00pm Friday afternoon (2/22). We’ll be eagerly awaiting your arrival! When you check in, you will receive your conference notebook and name badge. Please wear your name badge at all times. It is also your Saturday luncheon “meal ticket.”

Hotel Check-In: Most attendees begin arriving around noon so anticipate a wait at the front desk for checking into the hotel for your room. Come as early as you can to allow extra time so you can enjoy the first workshop at 3:00pm.

Hotel Room: If you have not already reserved a hotel room at the “Mom Heart Conference” special rate ($89.00/night), there may be cancellations or other discounts available. Call the hotel to check rates and availability (919-941-5050).

SCHEDULE

Friday Afternoon Workshops: Workshops will be held in the main ballroom. Please allow extra time to be seated and settled by 3:00pm. Clay and Sally Clarkson will lead off the workshops at 3:00pm speaking on At Home with Heartfelt Discipline. Misty Krasawski (ITakeJoy.com editor, Mom Heart Leader) will speak at 4:00pm on Beauty from Chaos.

Friday Dinner: Dinner is on your own. The hotel offers dining for conference attendees, and there are other restaurants within walking and driving distance of the Sheraton Imperial Hotel. Please plan your dinner so you can be back to the hotel in time to be seated and settled by 7:00 pm.

Friday Evening Session: The first main session will begin promptly at 7:00pm. At 8:00pm, Ruth Schwenk will speak on Making It as a Mother (part 1). At 9:00pm, Sally will speak on Destined to Live for God and the power of hope. The session will end at 10:00pm, and the ballroom and book tables will stay open until about 10:30pm to allow for fellowship and shopping.

Saturday Morning Session: The first Saturday session begins at 8:45am with worship. Sally will speak Saturday morning at 9:00am on Destined to Love Your Children. After a break, Sarah Clarkson (ThoroughlyAlive.com, author) will speak at 10:30am on The Journey of Faithfulness: Becoming Chosen, followed by Ruth Schwenk speaking on Making It as a Mother (part 2). The Saturday morning session will end at 11:30am. If you’re staying only Friday night at the hotel, you can use the break time before the luncheon to check out of your hotel room if needed.

Saturday Luncheon: We will clear the ballroom quickly at about 11:30am so the hotel staff can prepare the room and set the tables for the luncheon. You may leave your notebook and other belongings in your seat. The doors to the ballroom will open again at about 12:15pm for the banquet luncheon.

Saturday Afternoon Session: The final session will begin at 2:00pm. Sally will host a My Mom Heart panel discussion with Mom Heart leaders who will share personal insights and stories of hope about motherhood. Sally will speak at 3:30pm on Destined to Leave a Legacy. The conference will conclude by 4:30pm. The book table area will stay open until 5:00pm for final purchases and checkout.

MISCELLANEOUS

Friday and Saturday Seating: Seating is on a first-come basis for Friday afternoon and evening. Friday seating, however, cannot be saved overnight for Saturday. Doors will open Saturday morning at 7:30am, so if you want to sit as a group have someone come early to reserve your seats. Once the session begins, all unused seats will be open. Seating will remain unchanged throughout the rest of the day on Saturday.

Book Tables: The WHM book tables will be open Friday by 1:00pm, and throughout the day on Saturday until 5:00pm. We try to bring enough inventory but we cannot guarantee availability of a title.

Cancelations: There are no refunds after Tuesday, February 19. Until then, cancelations are subject to a $25.00 fee. However, you may transfer your registration to another person at any time without penalty. If you are not able to attend the conference, at your request we can convert your registration into a tax-deductible donation if you contact us before 12:00pm (noon) on Friday, February 15. All registrations are final after that time.

Questions about Registration: If you have a question about your registration, contact Jennice Jones in the Whole Heart Ministries office. Email is preferred (admin@wholeheart.org), but if it is urgent contact her by phone (719-488-4466). If you leave a message, she will return your call as soon as possible. If you have questions about the hotel or your room reservation please call the hotel (919-941-5050).

It is my prayer that this Conference will be a touch of grace in your life so you can smile at the future with faith. You deserve a weekend just for you! We look forward to serving you and sending you home with a refreshed and renewed heart for your children and your family. Thank you for coming!
Wholeheartedly in Christ,

And the Waiting List is completely full. We knew we might sell out this year, but did not anticipate it happening so quickly or with so many we would have to turn away. We’re already looking at possibilities for expanding the conference next year, but regretfully there’s nothing we can do about it this year. We’re pushing the ballroom to its capacity and simply have no way to add more chairs. Again, we apologize to our wholehearted moms who will not be able to join us this year. This is a first time we’ve had this happen, so we’re on an accelerated learning program to make sure it’s the last.

Good news for California…we can take more registrations. We had to close registration yesterday because we were out of room. But today, a cancellation opened up the rest of the ballroom and the hotel has let us use it for our conference. Now we have plenty of room to add more attendees. We apologize for the brief scare, but we thank God for the extra space. We need it. Tell your friends the door is open again.

Oh my, indeed. We’ll host four conferences in six weekends beginning with Colorado this weekend (1/18-19), and then it’s on to California (2/1-2), Texas (2/15-16), and finally North Carolina (2/22-23). Sally and Sarah Mae’s new book, Desperate, released January 8 and is doing very well; my book, Heartfelt Discipline, unofficially releases this week (officially later). And the new Mom Heart Online (www.momheart.org) is beating strongly and growing bigger after its transplant to WordPress. They are filling up quickly, but you can still register for any of the conferences. Don’t wait, though, as we cannot guarantee they will stay open. Our two new books are available in our store and elsewhere online, but there may be a slight delay shipping Desperate as the first printing by Thomas Nelson sold out in about 60 hours. Be sure to connect on the new MomHeart.org–follow us, comment on the blog, get familiar. By March, we hope to launch a Mom Heart online community with activity feed, forums, groups, and more. You’ll want to get in early to get the best usernames, and start a new group.

December 10, 2012

Dear Friends and Whole Heart Partners,

This ministry is now one generation old! We started 18 years ago in 1994, one generation demographically. On January 1, 2013 we embark on our second generation of ministry to parents. We are asking God for one more generation of ministry, and for new Whole Heart Partners to join us for that journey down the backstretch. There is so much more we can do in 18 years, and 2030 is such a nice round year. However, we need your help starting right now! This year. 2013.

Since you’re reading this in the midst of your Christmas mail and seasonal activities, we’ll keep this brief—just a five-minute year-end snapshot of what’s going on at Whole Heart that has us so excited about 2013. In our first 18 years of ministry, we’ve never seen the kinds of opportunities we are seeing right now. Here’s what’s happening.

MOM HEART MINISTRY: OUR HEARTS BEAT FOR MOMS!

Mom Heart is set to explode in 2013. This past year, we launched the new Mom Heart Online (MomHeart.org) with 25 inspirational mom bloggers as authors. That site is getting a total makeover that will include training for group leaders, a social network for moms, a new online store, and more. Sally’s I Take Joy blog for Christian women (ITakeJoy.com) has been growing exponentially—her personal blog has logged over 2.5 million hits. Those numbers are surprising, but God is giving the growth, and it is still growing. On January 8, Thomas Nelson (the world’s largest Christian book publisher) will release Desperate~Hope for the Mom Who Needs to Breathe, Sally and mom blogger Sarah Mae’s new book that is being targeted for the New York Times bestseller list. We expect the book to do very well and to drive many more moms to our ministry websites and blogs.

We have four Mom Heart Conference events coming up in January and February in Colorado, California, Texas, and North Carolina. Sally will encourage moms in a series called “I Take Hope—Moving from Desperate to Destiny.” Because of online marketing and blog chatter about the book release, we’re hoping for a good turnout this year. There is no other conference quite like these inspirational weekend getaways for Christian moms. In May, Sally will be a Keynote speaker for the Teach Them Diligently Conventions in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and our old hometown Nashville, Tennessee. We are already planning for Mom Heart Leader Intensive Training weekends (“Intensives”) next summer to train moms for ministry, and we hope to begin work on a one-day Mom Heart Mominar concept for churches that a trained Mom Heart leader could present. Finally, we hope to offer a new WholeHearted Learning Workshop weekend in the fall, and are discussing the possibility of a Bring Them Up Family Conference with another mom blogger family.

WHOLE HEART MINISTRIES: WE ARE PRESSING ON WITH BOOKS!

Whole Heart Press is getting its beat back. We are building on our reputation as a trusted creator and publisher of Christian home and parenting books and resources. We released Sally’s book The Mom Walk in June, and Clay’s book Heartfelt Discipline will release in January. We hope to release several more books in 2013 as we are able to obtain funds for printing. We are also working on ebooks and mobile apps for Mom Heart and Whole Heart. Our legacy books with WaterBrook Press and Apologia Press are all doing well and continue to expand into new audiences. Our ministry website Whole Heart Online (WholeHeart.org) will undergo a total makeover after the first of the year to become a daily Christian home and parenting blog offering inspirational, biblical, and practical help to parents. The Whole Heart Online Store will also get a makeover to make it easier for parents to shop, and easier for us to reach out to parents internationally.

WHOLE HEART PARTNERS: HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP…

Let me cut to the chase: We are growing as a ministry, but our ministry-generated revenues are not growing fast enough to keep up. We need donations to stay at financial parity. We have added more staff (two virtual part-time online editors, and an in-house part-time web-tech assistant), we will be printing more books (new books and reprints, about $5,000 each), and all of our operational costs are increasing (group medical insurance, rent, online services). Although it is a manageable debt, we also would like to retire the balance of a business loan, currently $40,000, that we were forced to acquire about six years ago. We have not had a significant year-end surplus in over a decade, but we pray that God will provide a surplus this year to help pay down the debt, as well as to help fund new ministry initiatives and products, or that dedicated donations might help us reduce it. If you are able to help Whole Heart as we head into 2013, we deeply appreciate your generosity and support. A donor card and response envelope are enclosed for your convenience.

We are so thankful to God for your partnership in ministry with us. Thank you for sharing our heart for Christian parents and godly homes. We pray you and your family have a wonderful Advent and Christmas celebration filled with grace, peace, hope, and joy in our Lord!

Wholehearted blessings in Christ,

Clay and Sally

DONATE NOW

If you are able to make a year-end donation to Whole Heart Ministries, just click the link above, or click on the “Donate” tab in the Home page menu. Whole Heart is a nonprofit, 501c3 tax-exempt Christian ministry. Your gift will be receipted and is tax-deductible. We appreciate your gift as we move ahead into our second generation of faithful ministry to Christian parents. Wholehearted blessings!

Good-ish News…It won’t be available until later in January. Awww!

But, hey, the good news is that it is on its way to becoming a real book again. The first edition went out of print in 2007, and many of you have been asking when it would be back in print since then (especially since some copies on Amazon were being offered for around $300.00!). The decade-later, revised, expanded, and updated second edition took longer to get out of my decade-older brain and spirit than I anticipated, but I think what finally gets into print will be worth the wait. And I think the time is even more right for this book than ever before. I’ll let you know the exact date when the book will available as soon as I know it. Sorry, no pre-orders.
