'Hatfields and McCoys' in Boston

Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Apparently, the Hatfields and McCoys aren't big on the Bible. NBC's new edge of your seat drama "Hatfields and McCoys" starring Charlize Theron and Virgina Madsen is coming to Boston! A centuries-old family feud reunites in a contemporary urban setting The Hatfields have risen to incredible wealth and power, while the McCoys are working-class.

Boston lucked out when the project moved from Pennsylvania after the film tax credit cap was enacted there this year. The tv pilot, which was recently green lighted by NBC, will shoot for three weeks starting in mid March. No word yet on who is casting.

David O.Russell Heading Back to The Bean

The director of "The Fighter", David O. Russell, is heading back to Beantown and he's bringing along some big friends. Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper, and Louis C.K are some of the names set to star in O. Russel's latest film.
The movie, which has yet to be titled, takes place during the ABSCAM financial scandal of the 1970's.
Based on the true story of a notorious financial con artist ( Christian Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime who were forced to work with an intense and ambitious FBI agent to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters and politicians. When cocky con man Melvin Weinberg (Bradley Cooper) is caught by FBI agent Jimmy Boyle’s (Jeremy Renner) unit, he agrees to become an informant and help with several other white collar busts. Together, Mel and the less than competent FBI mastermind the famous 1980 Abscam sting operation, which used a fake Arab sheik and a host of other cunning tricks. Set in seedy New York City, this fast paced drama is the unbelievable and hilarious true story of the operation that helped root out corruption in Congress and severely crippled organized crime. Adams will play Maxine "Max" Gardner, mistress and co-conspirator of Weinberg.
Casting is already taking place with an open call today at Boston Casting. Filming is slated to run from March 11th through May 19th in Boston!

UPDATE: The Wally Pfister Project has relocated to Los Angeles .

The most highly anticipated project of the year has been shrouded in mystery. "Dark Knight" cinematographer, Wally Pfister, will make his directorial debut in Boston this Fall. The film is being produced by "Dark Knight" director Chris Nolan and his partner Emma Thomas. The script was written by newcomer Jack Paglen. Rumors have been persisting that the project, which is said to star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, will be a continuation or follow up to the "Dark Knight" saga. However, the film is set in a world where machines transcend the abilities of the human brain, and depicts the epic conflicts that result. We should learn more details about the project soon as producer are currently casting and scheduled to start shooting in Boston this October.

Boston Gets The Makeover

ABC is shooting a tv movie in Boston this Fall. The writer of "Sweet Home Alabama", C. Jay Cox, is shooting the romantic comedy "The Makeover" in town this September. No word yet on casting.
When she loses her own bid for Congress because her public image is so prim and forbidding, strong willed Hannah Higgins decides to make over Elliot Doolittle, a hugely likeable beer vendor with an egregious Boston accent, into a viable candidate. And during the course of Elliot's make-over and Congressional run, these two vastly different personalities just may encounter unexpected romance -- with one another. Based on "Pygmalion" by George Bernard Shaw.

The production has a start date scheduled for September 13th.

Larry David and Jon Hamm in New Comedy

Larry David and Jon Hamm are set to star in Davids latest comedy shooting in Boston this Fall. The Untitled Larry David Project is rumored to also star Michael Keaton and Kristin Wiig.
The plot is said to involve David and Hamm as characters who each invest in an electric-car company with different goals in mind. When the car becomes a success, David's character gets his investment back, while Hamm's businessman becomes extremely rich, causing tension between the duo. Keaton is being recruited to play a crazy businessman named Stumpo, who is David's friend. The film, which will air on HBO, starts shooting in town this September.

He's had several films slated for Massachusetts, "Missing Links" and "Get Smart 2", which never ended up going into production. "The Way, Way Back" follows a teenage boy who, over the course of a summer vacation, strikes up a friendship that gives him the courage to stand up to his carousing, volatile, boozing stepfather and reconnect with his mother. The film co-stars Toni Collette (United States of Tara) and will begin production on the 25th of June.

Shooting is rumored to take place in Carrel's hometown of Marshfield. Producers are currently hiring local crew members. Break a leg!

What's The Deal With Whitey?

Ever since Whitey Bulger was captured last June, Hollywood has been racing to put out a project about Boston's most notorious mob boss. Now that several projects are in the works it looks like we'll finally see the Bulger story play out on the big screen.

"Untitled Whitey Bulger Project"

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming up once again for their currently untitled Whitey Bulger project. Affleck will direct and star in the film alongside his brother Casey and his best bud Damon, who will play Whitey. The film, which is currently being written by Boardwalk Empire's Terrence Winter, is set to shoot in 2013 but could start as early as Fall 2012.

"Street Soldier"

Actor Peter Facinelli (Twilight) and producer Robert DeFranco (Loosies) are planning to shoot "Street Soldier" in Boston this year. The film is based on the book "Street Soldier: My Life as an Enforcer for Whitey Bulger and the Boston Irish Mob" by Edward MacKenzie Jr.

Coincidently, Facinelli and DeFranco closed on the deal for the project the day before Bulger was caught after 16 yrs on the run....

"Untitled John Martorano"

Producer Graham King of GK Films (The Town, The Departed) has had a Bulger project in the works for quite sometime. It started back during the filming of "The Departed" when Martin Scorsese secretly met with Winter Hill Gang enforcer John Martorano. The rights to the project was acquired by GK Films and "The Town" writer, Chuck Hogan, was tapped to pen the screenplay. The film will focus on The Winter Hill Gang and the court case that exposed a relationship between the mob and the Boston office of the FBI. After Whitey was captured in Santa Monica, King was quoted as saying that he was fast tracking the project. No word yet on when the shooting will commence but it's expected within the next two years.

"Black Mass"

One of the earliest Bulger projects in the works has been plagued with script revisions. Based on the book "Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance" by Dick Lehr, the film has been in and out of preproduction several times. This year they are giving it a shot one more time. Russell Gewirtz has extensively rewritten the script and has final draft that they are ready to put into production. No word yet on who will play Whitey.

"Rat Bastards"
Based on the memoir of Winter Hill Gang lieutenant John "Red" Shea. "Rat Bastards" is rumored to star Ed Harris as Whitey in the gritty true life crime drama. Mark Wahlberg originally acquired the rights to the project in 2006 but it has since changed hands and will be produced by Rexmedia. The film was expected to shoot Fall 2011 in Boston.

"A Criminal & An Irishman"

Former Whitey Bulger rival then one time associate Patrick Nee was visited by director Tom Collins (Kings) in 2009 about developing a film based on his book "A Criminal & an Irishman: The Inside Story of the Boston Mob-IRA Connection". The film follows the life of Irish immigrant Patrick Nee's in South Boston during the height of Whitey Bulger's reign of terror. At one point Nee was caught smuggling over 160 AK-47's into Ireland. The film is still in development.

"Affair of Honor"

Former firefighter and local scribe, Michael Yebba, has a Winter Hill Gang themed tv pilot in the works with producer Graham King's GK-TV. The project takes a deeper look into the gang that once terrorized Boston's streets. The project is still in development but rumor has it that a very famous director will helm the project when it goes into production.

"Untitled Peter Mehlman Project"

There's even a Whitey Bulger tv pilot in the works! "Seinfeld" writer/producer Peter Mehlman and FOX are planning a comedy about a young couple who get a new neighbor: the FBI's most wanted Whitey Bulger. The show will shoot in front of a live studio audience in Los Angeles.

"Raging Bull 2" is said to be a unique combination prequel and sequel that explores "before the rage" and "after the rage" of Jake LaMotta's tumultuous life and times. William Forsythe has been rumored to star as LaMotta in his later years. The project was recently moved from Connecticut to Boston. However, there is speculation over wether the film will ever go into production. Only time will tell.
