Great Books

Welcome to my new Great Books feature. Starting off here is *The Hunger Games* by Suzanne Collins. I got the book and its sequels Christmas of 2010. I can't believe how fast I finished them. Now, if you have read the books you will understand that I was full on sobbing while reading portions of the books. In my opinion a mark of a great book is one that is emotionally engaging that somehow gives us insight to our humanity. Spoilers after the jump! The book takes place in a futuristic post-apocalyptic world of Panem.

Wick's Picks Movie Review - Chronicle

My last experience seeing a found footage film in theaters resulted in me making a run for it to the bathroom (yes I am talking about *Cloverfield*). I was slightly worried about seeing another film where I would be worrying about cameras shaking. Thankfully that wasn't the case and *Chronicle* to be a very creative and entertaining film. So we have these three guys Andrew (Dane DeHaan), Steve (Michael B. Jordan), and Matt (Alex Russell) who find a cave with this weird alien rock thing and they later find they are able to move things with their minds (telekinesis).

Smash Review

*Warning Spoiler Alert on the last four episodes of Smash* So Smash's first season is four episodes in and I have to say I am enjoying this musical television show. Now in ratings since its huge debut numbers have dropped quite significantly with its most recent numbers being 6.9 million total viewers and a 2.4 rating in the demo. which is not good considering its debut was 11.4 million total viewers and a 3.8 rating in the demo. I really want this NBC musical drama to succeed, but its going to need more eyes watching it. So lets talk about the show.

There is no amount of blogging I could do to say how much I love this show. I love it so much no matter the frustration it can bring to me. I loved the last two season so it shouldn't be much of a surprise I love this season. So lets start with a list of what I am loving this season and then go onto a list of what I am not. 1. The Visibility - We have Kurt who is gay, Blaine who is gay, Santana who is a lesbian, and Brittney who is bisexual, Sebastian who is gay, and Dave who is gay.

Disclaimer: I am a chicken. Horror movies scare the crap out of me. So it may not be scary to everyone. I went into the theater excited to see Daniel Radcliffe starring in his first movie post-Harry Potter. I wasn't disappointed. Daniel Radcliffe plays Arthur Kipps, a lawyer, who is sent by his firm to deal with the estate of some woman who died. Well turns out the mansion is haunted (duh). Children in the town keep dying. The villagers want Kipps to leave afraid of what may happen if he stays. The movie is full of scares, but I don't want to give too much away.

Goodbye Snoopy

My dog Snoopy passed away Monday. I said my goodbyes to him Sunday when I was told that he had a stroke that paralyzed his two back legs. It broke my heart to see him on the ground unable to move without the help of someone else. The next day before he was supposed to be taken to the vet to be put down he passed on his own. I got Snoopy when I was seven years old when he was already close to a year old. He lived 16 years. It was a rainy day when we got him from whatever animal shelter it was.

Most Anticipated Movies of 2012

I know this is a bit late, but that's fine none of the movies that came out last month or even this month are considered movies that I most anticipated. Last year I saw a lot of good movies and I am hoping this year I get to do the same. Disney has been an important part of my life. I grew up on these films and they are still some of the most enjoyable movies I have ever watched. 1. Beauty and the Beast This is by far one of the best movies I have ever seen. Definitely in my top ten of favorite movies ever. The story, the characters, the music and the animation is all just perfect. I don't think I will ever see another animated film that is better than this one.

Update on Apollo the Green Cheeked Conure

Apollo I got Apollo, my Green Cheek Conure, near the beginning of July and it has been quite an interesting experience. He is really attached to me and I am to him. He isn't the easiest guy to train though considering how distracted he gets and I don't really have a distraction free area to go to, but that is okay I didn't get him to train him to do tricks I got him because I wanted a loving pet companion and I got that. We have come a long way in just the last few months and I want to talk about that.

Neglected Blue and Gold Macaw

As my friends and the readers of this blog know I have a Green Cheek Conure, Apollo, who I am extremely attached to(will be posting an update on him later) and because of him I have become obsessed with parrots. So I have done research and asked questions about the various types of parrots and what they are like, how to take care of them, and how to train them.

Dream Pets

Snoopy! I love animals. I live by thinking that pets(most of them) are part of families and can enrich a persons life. Now I have a dog(Snoopy), two corn snakes(Shadow and Salazar), a pair of newts(the Judgemental newts), and a Green-Cheek Conure(Apollo). Now these just the ones I own. Snoopy stills lives with my family, though he is still my dog, I got him when I was seven years old and when he was a year old making him now around 15 years old(he is so old my poor baby). Sadly because of his age he has some health problems including difficulty walking, poor eyesight and hearing.

So I am one of the early beta testers for Pottermore that is waiting patiently(not really) for their Pottermore entry letter. Now in anticipation of course I decided to see what other people were saying about the Sorting Ceremony as I am really anticipating being sorted. So apparently you can't "cheat" the Sorting Hat questions because of the kinds of questions they are. So people who thought they were one house are actually another. Now if it was just a straight personality people could be whatever house they wanted to be even if they weren't necessarily honest about the answers

So the next school semester starts on Monday and I am super excited, mostly because it means I will be busy once again. So this semester I am continuing my study in Radio and Television, plus I will be taking piano!! Other than that more general ed. Along with school I have Delta Pride and that will be busy as usual, but now we have an office so it will be even more busy. Now I haven't mentioned it yet on the blog, but a couple of weeks ago I decided to buy a Green Cheek Conure, which is basically a small parrot. Though he is small in size he has huge personality.

The whole time I was watching the movie I kept remembering things from the previous movies and from the books. Thank You Harry Potter: Closing a Chapter on a Very Important Part of My Life

This Thursday/Friday at the midnight showing of *Harry Potter* marks the end of my childhood. Yes, I am 21, but age is just a number. Many things were marking the end of my childhood for me. First and foremost last summer the third and supposedly last installment of *Toy Story 3* were part of a trilogy I grew up on and then I knew things I grew up with were coming to an end. Next came *Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1* which told me that it was almost over. That my time with my childhood would soon become more about looking back than anything new.
