It’s almost Thanksgiving, and that means it’s time to start planning your Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends.

Widgetboxer Erika Campos of San Francisco has been using Widgetbox to help her plan her annual Thanksgiving dinner for the past two years. We asked her to give us the details of some of the widgets she’s using this year to help her plan the big day.

The first thing I did this year was to install a Thanksgiving countdown widget. It took less than five minutes to install the widget on my blog and social media profiles. Every time I check my pages it’s there to keep me organized and focused.

Next I installed the party planning widget. It’s definitely a must for any type of party or event planning. There’s a direct link to Evite.com to help with email invitations, up to the minute weather forecasts, and party planning tips.

Every year I try to introduce a new recipe or two, so the recipe widgets are great for giving me new ideas to try. My favorites are the Epicurious and Chow.com widgets. They give me recipes from Gourmet, Bon Appetit, and other renowned food magazines. This year the new recipes I’m trying are: Cider Glazed Turkey, Brown Butternut Squash Couscous, and Spiced Apple Cupcakes.

Finally on the day of Thanksgiving I like to send all my family and friends Thanksgiving postcards—especially those who won’t be able to make it to dinner—just to let them know that I have been thinking about them

Steve Spangler is an online educator devoted to scientific learning through experimentation. His website, SteveSpanglerScience.com, is an online retailer of over 900 different science-related products and features videos demonstrating fun science experiments.

After realizing initial success with his website, Steve wanted to further increase his web presence. His immediate marketing goals were to: create a social media presence, increase search engine optimization (SEO), increase brand awareness, and drive additional traffic to the website.

Steve decided to work with Widgetbox to implement a comprehensive—yet affordable—marketing strategy that would accomplish his objectives.

The solution was to create a blog widget, or Blidget, for his "Experiment of the Week" RSS feed and YouTube channel. A branded header and footer were also added to the widget to increase brand awareness. To assist with SEO, the widget included an HTML/SEO wrapper with the search term "science toys". The inclusion of the SEO/HTML wrapper guaranteed that every reinstall of the widget on the web would include the relevant search terms with a link back to Steve’s site.

Finally to increase Steve’s social media presence, Widgetbox created a custom Facebook Fan Page that would distribute the brand through the Facebook platform.

An initial six months of promoting the ad on Widgetbox.com led to impressive results. SteveSpanglerScience.com increased from number 17 to 3 for Google search results for the term "science toys". A total of 360,000 unique impressions were served across 150+ unique URLs leading to 2,700 clicks to the site, and currently the widget is receiving 60,000 views a month—all displaying the brand’s image and feed content.
