Instructions

1. Take the vent pipe, assemble it and dry-fit it on the exhaust port on top of your tankless heating. Determine the location close to the exterior wall and mark the spot on the wall where the center of the venting pipe in contact with the wall. A vent pipe must venting the exhaust gas to an outside location and must be vented downward to prevent elements such as rain water from entering the pipe.

2. Remove the vent pipe from the top of the heating unit.

3. Make a small pilot hole by drill the wall to the outside.

4. Go outside to the pilot hole. Hold the metal wall thimble against the exterior wall, this step as a reference to create a venting hole in the wall.

5. Cut a hole in the wall for ventilation using a saw. If you are having trouble, you can start by drilling a 1-inch hole with a spade bit near the top of the circle you traced.

6. Remove any strips of siding and Hold the flange thimble against the wall.

7. Apply a thick bead of silicone caulk around the edge of the flange, then slide it into the hole in the wall. Screw the flange to the wall through the holes around the perimeter of the flange, and cover the screws with the silicone caulk.

8. Go inside and connect the flange to the vent pipe.

9. You can re-install any strips of siding that you had to remove.

Steps to Install a Tankless Hot Water Heater

2. Turn off the main water line into the house.

3. Disconnect the supply line from your old water heater. Prepare a bucket and place the bucket under the water bib because maybe you have water left in the lines even if your main has been shut off.

If your old water heater are the gas type (propane), make sure the supply valve is closed (this is usually determined by the direction of the handle to the valve sitting either in the same direction as the line "open", opposite the direction of the line "closed"). 5. After you make sure the old water heater completely disconnected, you have to remove it and make sure you do it according to the law in the area you live in.

7. Locate a new water heater in a location that allows for proper spacing around it to comply with all regulations of state and local building.

8. Read manufacturer's instructions for Installing a tankless heater on the wall and make sure that you have supported its weight appropriately.

9. Now you're ready to hook up all the connections.

10. If your new water heater is a gas type, install ventilation ducting. Typically tankless water heaters requires larger flue or special stainless steel flue.

Before you install a gas water heater, make sure that your room has adequate ventilation. A byproduct of combustion (Carbon monoxide) can be dangerous when inadequate venting allows it to build up in the home. Discuss this with a professional if you are in doubt.

Preparation to install a Gas Water Heater

Prepare common plumbing tools and pipe joint compound approved for fuel gas. In anticipation of a leaking pipe, you also need kid’s soap bubbles or hand dishwashing soap mixed with water. Most codes require the water heater to be installed in a metal drain pan. See the installation instructions for information about sizing the drain pan and other installation details.

If you use copper pipe, consider an installation kit with compression fittings without soldering. While for plastic pipes, you’ll need connectors / fittings for the specific type of plastic pipes used in your home. Read the installation instructions for the new connectors before cutting the existing water pipes.

Turn the main gas supply valve and the gas control knob on the old water heater to ‘OFF’. Open a hot-water faucet, and let the hot water run until cool. Allow the old water heater and vent pipe to cool.

Steps to Install a New Gas Water Heater

1. Drain Your Water Heater

2. Temperature and Release Valve

In the plumbing system, most of the homes have check valves and now need a thermal expansion tank installed near the water heater. The expansion tank is attached to the cold-water inlet line. To operate properly, the expansion tank must be pressurized with air. More detail about it, can be found in the expansion tank’s instructions.

Gas Water Heater has an important safety device, that is the temperature and pressure relief valve (T&P). When the water temperature or pressure is too high, this valve will opens to relieve pressure. Don’t reuse the old T&P valve and use the new one.

The T&P discharge pipe should be terminated near a floor drain with an air gap of no more than six inches between the end of the discharge pipe and the drain. Some localities require terminating the T&P discharge pipe outside. In all cases, follow the codes for your location but In cold climates, we recommend using a floor drain.

Warning : Don't plug or cap the T&P discharge pipe.

3. Install Hot- and Cold-Water Lines

Install the hot- and cold-water lines. The water heater inlet and outlet connections contain nonmetallic parts. Don't solder the pipe directly to these connections. Instead, solder threaded adapters to short pieces of pipe so that soldering is done one foot or so from the water heater connections. Open the cold water supply valve and fill the tank.

Open a nearby hot water faucet slowly. Let the hot water run full stream for three minutes to ensure the tank is completely full. The tank must be completely full before lighting the pilot.

6. Light the Pilot

1. For electric heaters, locate and shut off the power source, a circuit breaker typically in a main panel or subpanel. Or, If you do not find it, there might be a fuse to remove. Also shut off the cold water supply to unit. There are two types of valves in use: ball valves and gate valves. A 90-degree turn closes an open ball valve, but a gate valve takes many turns. This will keep the water heater from "pinging" as cold water re-enters it during normal use. You can close the pressure-relief valve again after all the compressed air has escaped.

9. Close the water heater drain. Open the hot water tap in the bathroom to bleed air.

10. Caution: Do not turn on the power yet. If you power on without filling, the heating element will be damaged. Open the hot water tap on the bathtub or wash basin and wait for a full stream of water.
