A few weeks back Bonnie Bogle, one of the DrupalConDC organizers, posted a call for volunteers on the DrupalConDC website. Specifically they were looking for people to interview some bronze and silver sponsors for the DrupalCon blog.

Having done my fair share of interviews for Cloudy Day Art, my poetry podcast, I figured this was a perfect opportunity to dust off my equipment (and my vocal chords) and be able to contribute to the conference, since I’m new to Drupal and can’t really help out any other way.
Last week I recorded three separate interviews with employees and founders of ZivTech, Gravitek Labs, and EchoDitto. They are now available on the DrupalConDC blog.

The poorly named Godtube, a Christian response to Youtube, has changed its name to ‘Tangle‘. This is definitely an improved changed, but do we really need a “Christian” Youtube?
I was one of the ones who originally laughed and cringed at it, but I have been thinking about it? Why not?

I don’t really have a problem with it as long as they market it as a site to view Christian themed videos. A one-stop shop if you’re looking for just the right video to play during a church service or to embed into your blog to offer a little inspiration to your readers. And that seems to be the direction they’re going with at first glance. What do you think?

Here is a promo video that explains the new name and vision:
There is a lot of controversy over the overuse of the popular music studio plugin known as Auto-tune. If the name doesn’t sound familiar watch this video to hear the sound. You’ll immediately think of 20 songs that use it. Hat Tip: Digg http://tinyurl.com/cq9xlg

I went with the chronological calendar this year because it tries to put the Bible in order of the events that they happened. As a result, it skips around from Genesis, to Job, to Pslams, etc. It helps to make the yearly reading more like reading a novel. (Not to diminish the importance of the Bible, but we all know that it can be a tough read in some places.

YouVersion.com has some pretty cool tools. I like how they give you a journal right along side of the text to take notes. In 2009 they plan on adding the capability to record personal reflections using your web cam. Cool.

YouVersion.com also has an iPhone app and a handy mobile version which works great from your cell phone.

What are you using? Have you ever read the Bible in its entirety? I’ve done it only once before.

Potential good news for users of Podango Show Builder Lite. I received
this information from them last night.
Please email them if you are interested in paying for the service.

**************************

Dear Podango Show Builder Lite Customers,

We at Podango believe that you, our customers, are our most valuable
asset. Given this belief, we have always done our best to be honest
and forthright in our dealings with you. The current uncertainties of
the financial market has affected many of us in this nation. As of
last week, Podango is no longer immune to it’s effects. Our ability to
continue operations past the end of this year (2008) is in question.

Given the structure of PSBL you should have the source and output
files of all your shows on your computer and/or hosting sites other
than Podango. If this is not the case, you should take steps to move
it to another service.

We know of no other assembly service like PSBL or we would provide you
a reference. We may be able to keep this service running if you the
existing customers are willing to pay a monthly service fee for it
use.

If you are willing to pay a monthly fee starting at the first of the
year please respond to info@podango.com and let us know how much you
would be willing to pay monthly. This feedback will allow us to
determine if we can get enough subscribers at a reasonable price to
continue providing PSBL.

As soon as we have enough data to determine the viability of
continuing the service, we will notify you.

As of today, the last day of operation for the PSBL service will be
December 31st.

Again I personally apologize for this short notice. Let us know if you
would like to continue under a service fee.

Thank you,

Doug

Douglas G. Smith
President - Podango

************************************

We ordered this JR-700 bullet train from eBay for our 4 year old son who is in love with trains. The train ended up shipping from Japan where the JR (Japan Railways) 700, and 500, are popular.
This documentation was included in the package.

My church put on “Christmas on 14th Street”, a community Christmas program, at the Tivoli theater in Northwest DC. It went quite well despite a few technical difficulties.

Lessons learned:
* Volunteers need to be fully engaged
* Word of mouth is the best advertising
* A benefit of practice is that you free up down time to socialize with people you never met. You can’t do that if you’re trying to workout technical issues five minutes before showtime.

Thanks to everybody that came out and helped out!

I put together a website, www.HeroNU.com to help my church’s outreach plan for a sermon series my Pastor is presenting this summer. It’s called “Heroes: An Old Testament Teaching Series”.

I put together a website, www.HeroNU.com to help my church’s outreach plan for a sermon series my Pastor is presenting this summer. It’s called “Heroes: An Old Testament Teaching Series”.

When Pastor Dan presented the opportunity, I jumped at it because, the best way to learn about building web pages is to build web pages. As you may know from a previous posting, I just started to learn Drupal, so I figured this was the perfect opportunity to “go live” with it.

As you can see, this is basically a one-page site, and comes no where close to using Drupal’s true power and scalability. But that is the good thing about Drupal, too. You can have an extremely complex site with multiple sections and menus, or you can create a simple site like this as well. Sure, I could have just used some static HTML, but I would have lost a learning opportunity as well.

In fact, I did learn a great deal about simple things like nodes, blocks, themes, permissions, user rights, etc. So it was a win in my book.

Now I’m thinking about how I can add to what is already there.

Any ideas?
