CLEAR WiMAX Modem Antenna Modification

In some area many customers only get 1-2 bars inside their home using CLEAR Modem with WiFi.This is the model just before the CLEAR Hub Express came out.CLEAR Hub Express has external antenna port but CLEAR modem with WiFI doesn’t has one.

A quick fix would of getting a external antenna and hooking it up to the modem but there is no antenna ports on the modem so now you have to find a solution.

One possibility is that you need to remove the existing internal antenna and using a RP-SMA pigtail to connect a powerful outdoor antenna

4G Mobile Broadband Coming to New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco

Clearwire pursue to become the leader of 4G Mobile Broadband provider in the US.Aggressively to cover up 120 Million people in 2010.

“Across our 4G markets today, we’re experiencing data usage levels that could shake the rest of the wireless industry to its core,” said Bill Morrow, CEO of Clearwire.

Since Clear’s official launched in Portland in January 2008,Clearwire already up and running in almost 58 cities nationwide as you can see on the latest Coverage Map from Clear’s official website.

Recently Clearwire announced that people living in New York city will have experience 4G mobile broadband start from November 1st.

A month later then Clear will operate in Los Angeles on December 1st. At the end of 2010 people in San Francisco will join the largest 4G broadband network in US.

Sprint Need Android Developer to Take Advantage of WiMAX on HTC EVO 4G

Sprint recently launched an long-waited Android-based WiMAX Smartphone : HTC EVO 4G aka HTC Supersonic in CTIA 2010.

HTC EVO 4G apparently was planned to take advantage of 4G WiMAX network in U.S. especially for HD video streaming on its super large 4.3-inch 480×800 multitouch screen . HTC EVO 4G equipped with HDMI output so you can also view 720p HD video streaming on your full HDTV without loose crisp image quality.

I wonder why HTC didn’t equipped AMOLED screen for EVO 4G just like HTC done for Google Nexus One or Sprint’s Samsung Moment.

AMOLED technology doesn’t require a backlight therefore it become low-power and low-cost large size screen.Samsung boasts AMOLED produce superior brightness means you can read it in sunlight – no more looking for a shady spot to see your screen.

Actually there are more room of possibilities on how to take advantage of the EVO 4G’s high end features – WiMAX radio, HDMI output support, 1.3 MP secondary camera also called a forward-facing camera, web browser that support Adobe Flash and HTML5 and Geolocation.

No wonder Sprint released developer’s guide for HTC EVO 4G because Android is an open source OS operates on HTC EVO 4G that supported by Android developer community all over the world.More developer interest to this device means HTC EVO 4G’s user could reach the ultimate experience of its full power hardware performance.

It could be the same reason why Sprint released Android Framework in September last year.

Apparently HTC learned much from its first WiMAX smartphone portfolio which was HTC MAX 4G aka HTC Quartz operated on Windows Mobile 6.1 available for Yota.

Sprint to Unveil Android WiMAX Phone During CTIA Wireless Next Week

The Sprint’s first WiMAX Android-based phone expected to be the centerpiece of a presentation made by Chief Executive Dan Hesse during the CTIA Wireless trade show that start on Tuesday March 23 at Las Vegas according to Dow Jones Newswires via The Wall Street Journal.

The Android WiMAX phone apparently will be the HTC A9292 aka HTC Supersonic which has large 4.3inch (480 x 800) capacitive touch screen powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8650 1 GHz processors. The rumored specs are 1GB ROM, 512 RAM, 5MP camera. Operates the latest Android 2.1. Some sources called this ‘Flan’ but it is actually still considered part of ‘Eclair’.

Probably you can consider to have hands-on experience for HTC Supersonic at CTIA Wireless on Sprint’s booth #MR-N206 and #5764.

Even though HTC MAX 4G (GSM) hits FCC but it seem Sprint will bring the first WiMAX phone (CDMA) in the US.

Apparently Sprint will add another Android-based Smartphone in its portfolio. Start from HTC Hero, Samsung Moment and soon the HTC A9292 (Supersonic).

HTC Supersonic has large 4.3inch (480 x 800) capacitive touch screen powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8650 1 GHz processors. Operates the latest Android 2.1. Some sources called this ‘Flan’ but it is actually still considered part of ‘Eclair’.

We don’t have any information regarding WiMAX chip but it is presumably utilized Beceem BCSM250 single-chip mobile WiMAX solution.It’s the same chip inside Sprint Overdrive 3G/4G.

Intel Unveiled Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 Adapter

WiMAXian featured the new Intel WiMAX/WiFi adapter for the first time in July 2009 when WiMAX Forum certified the Intel Centrino Advanced-N+ WiMAX 6250 codenamed Kilmer Peak.

The first appearance in October when Intel showcased Intel Centrino Advanced-N+WiMAX 6250 at CEATEC JAPAN 2009.

In November Intel confirmed Kilmer Peak in production and will launch with the Calpella Arrandale notebook platform solution in Q1 2010.

Recently Computer World had opportunity to use notebook with the 6250 to test the data transfer rates and battery life which they found 6250 faster and power hungry.

Last Thursday Intel Corporation unveiled its 2010 Intel Core vPro processor family.The 2010 Intel Core i7 processors and Core i5 processors feature Intel Turbo Boost Technology and Intel Hyper-Threading Technology for adaptive, “smarter” computing.

For wireless performance that complements the speed of the new Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors,Intel unveiled the Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 adapter (model code : 622ANHMW), which offers up to 20-Mbps WiMAX and advanced 802.11abgn (up to 300 Mbps) WiFi for maximum versatile coverage.

Intel also introduced Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 and Intel® Centrino Advanced-N 6200 802.11n WLAN adapters.

High-end notebooks will likely integrate the new 6250 in Half Mini Card form factor, which, as the name implies, includes both WiMAX (2.3 GHz, 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz band) as well 802.11a/b/g/n support.

Also Intel reduced WLAN power consumption results in potentially longer platform battery life for greater utility, enjoyment, and convenience.

For remote management of wireless settings, Intel provide Intel PROSet/Wireless WiMAX Connection Utility and Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software v.13.0 as Connection Manager.

Compared to previous version of the Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5150, shipped last year. “The 6250 is a bit of a technological marvel – it supports both bands of WiFi and all 3 bands of WiMAX,” said Ashish Gupta, a product line manager, in an online chat session. “Most people don’t realize WiMAX has specific frequency bands like WiFi.”

CLEAR 4G Mobile USB is WiMAX USB modem that so small and fits in your pocket. Its internal antenna has been improved for better reception but consume less power.

Ubee PXU1900, the New USB WiMAX Modem for CLEAR

In November 2009 Ubee Interactive received WiMAX Forum certification for Ubee 4G Mobile USB.

Ubee Interactive is a Taiwanese supplier of broadband Internet equipment including cable modems, ADSL modems, VoIP,IPTV etc.

Currently CLEAR prepping a new usb modem possibly Ubee PXU1900 from Ubee Interactive.It’s a USB WiMAX modem that operates in the 2.5 GHz spectrum. Apparently utilized Beecem WiMAX solutions.

Ubee PXU1900 apparently can plug in to a device looks like a WiFi router to share WiMAX connection to other WiFi enabled devices.It’s external addition antenna.

Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 6250 Faster and Power Hungry

As we have known that in Q1 2010 Intel start to introduce its latest WiMAX/WiFi Link 6250 internal chipset for notebook to access WiMax networks.

The chip set should provide faster data transfers than its predecessors WiMAX/WiFi Link 5150 and give longer battery life to laptops than external cards, said Tim Sweeney, an Intel spokesman. The second-generation WiMAX silicon is more compact and has a high level of integration that boosts its performance.

Recently Computer World had opportunity to use Dell Inspiron pre-production notebook with the WiMAX/WiFi Link 6250 chip set to test the data transfer rates and battery life.

This is what they said :
The data transfer rates were impressive when the chip set was connected to CLEAR’s WiMAX network in Las Vegas, but the laptop’s battery life was short of expectations when the service was running.

Download speeds outpaced even my AT&T DSL connection at home. I watched a streaming video from Netflix, without choppy images, from multiple locations three miles apart. Even video from ESPN360′s Web site, usually broken when viewed from my DSL home connection, was smooth on the WiMAX connection.

But the fast transfer speeds took a toll on the laptop’s battery life. The battery indicator dropped down to around three hours when the Netflix video was playing, and jumped up to more than four hours when the WiMAX service was idle. That said, battery life goes down under active WiFi usage as well, which is very common with laptops.

The decrease in battery life with WiMAX depends on the data transmission rates and the distance of a connection from the base station, Sweeney said.

“The farther away the client is from the base station, the more transmit power it must put out for the base station to receive or ‘hear’ it. It has to ‘shout’ louder to be heard by the base station due to the increased distance,” Sweeney said. This is true for WiFi as well, but in general the transmit power for a WiMax client will be higher, he said.

But tight integration and software help the chip set perform better than an external device in power consumption, Sweeney said.

It seems using notebook equipped with WiMAX/WiFi Link 6250 will be better in performance and its simplicity than regular notebook with additional USB WiMAX modem.

Notebook manufacture develop longer life battery for example the new built-in Apple Macbook battery lasts up to 7 hours on single charge. So power consumption will not big issue.

That means that over the course of the 2 year contract, this Samsung NC10 would end up costing you about $1,190.
