Root Galaxy S4 LTE I9505 on Android 4.3 XXUEMJ5 Official Firmware via CF-Auto-Root

Samsung recently rolled out its latest Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) official update for Galaxy S4 (LTE) GT-I9505 users in Europe. The new firmware can now be easily rooted via CF-Auto-Root tool by XDA developer, Chainfire.

Users who are rooting their device using this tool should note that Samsung's KNOX security system will get activated once the Galaxy S4 is rooted, and it cannot be reset or erased. In other words, this could void the warranty on the device, as the flash counter on the device will change from 0 to 1 after rooting.

WINBOYS SOFT will not be held liable for any device damage during or after firmware installation. Users are advised to proceed at their own risk.

Pre-Requisites

This guide and the given rooting tool are meant for Galaxy S4 LTE I9505 model only. Do not attempt this procedure on any other device, as it may inadvertently damage or brick the device. Verify the device model number by navigating to Settings > About Phone.
Backup your important data and settings on the phone to prevent data loss during root installation.
Ensure the correct USB drivers are installed for the phone on computer (download Galaxy S4 LTE I9505 USB drivers [ MIRROR ]).
Make sure that the phone has at least 80% battery charge before you begin.
Disable Samsung KIES as well as any security software installed on the computer.

Downloads Required

NOTE: Backup important files on the phone's SD card, so if you perform a data wipe or factory reset on your device via recovery (which also formats the SD card), the data may be restored after rooting the device.

How to Root Galaxy S4 LTE GT-I9505 on Android 4.3 XXUEMJ5 Official Firmware via CF-Auto-Root

1. Extract the root file CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.zip on your computer via 7-zip software to obtain a .tar.md5 file.

2. Also extract Odin 3.07.zip file to obtain Odin3 v3.07.exe.

3. Double-click the exe file to launch Odin.

4. Boot the Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 into Download Mode. To do so, turn off the phone and wait for 6 to 7 seconds until the device completely shuts down.

5. Press and hold Volume Down, Power and Home buttons together until the "Warning!" message appears on screen. Then hit Volume Up button to progress into Download Mode.

6. Connect the phone to computer. When the phone connects successfully, a message saying "Added!" will appear at the bottom left box in Odin.

7. If the "Added!" Message fails to appear, you may try the following troubleshooting steps:

Ensure the correct USB drivers are installed for the phone on computer
Try uninstalling and reinstalling the phone's USB drivers
Connect a different USB cable and check.
Try using another USB port on the computer (preferably the one at the back)
Reboot the phone and PC. Then check if the message appears.

8. Upload the firmware files in Odin as suggested below:

Tap the PDA button in Odin and choose the .tar.md5 file, which was extracted in step 1.

9. Enable Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options in Odin. Leave all other boxes in Option section unchecked.

10. Verify the previous two steps are done correctly. If there is a mistake, it may brick your device.

11. Click Start in Odin to begin the firmware flashing process on your Galaxy S4. Wait until the PASS message appears in Odin's top left box.

12. When the PASS message appears, the phone will restart automatically. Now, it is safe to disconnect the phone from computer.

NOTE: If a FAIL message appears in step 12, just disconnect the phone from computer and exit Odin. Remove the phone's battery and reinsert it in 3 to 4 seconds, then launch Odin and repeat the entire tutorial from Step 4.

Troubleshooting for Stuck at Logo or Boot Loop Issues:

Turn off the phone, remove and reinsert the battery into the phone. Check if the issue is resolved.
If the issue persists, perform a Wipe Data/Factory Reset via recovery. To do so, boot into recovery mode as follows: press and hold Home, Volume Up and Power keys together until the screen powers on and then release all three keys to enter recovery mode.
In recovery mode, use Volume keys to navigate and Power key to select an option.
Choose Wipe Data / Factory reset in recovery and then click Yes to confirm.
Finally, choose Reboot System Now.

For those of you who want to unroot your Galaxy S4 and remove root completely so your phone is back to completely stock, it’s pretty easy to do with ODIN and stock firmware.

This is great to get your phone back to stock status for returning your Galaxy S4 for warranty or perhaps you’ve ended up in a bootloop and simply want to get back to stock ROM.

Now, before we begin, you should make a backup of EVERYTHING on your internal storage as you might have to do a factory reset in the end if you end up in a bootloop, which will erase everything on your phone. (If you have CWM or TWRP recovery installed, you can get around this by doing a data wipe/factory reset BEFORE you unroot.)

Also, Triangle Away app should support Galaxy S4 soon so you can reset your binary counter. Run Triangle Away app BEFORE starting unrooting process.

Step 1. Power off your Galaxy S4 and hold down Volume Down, Center Home, and Power button together for about 5 seconds.

Step 2. When you see the warning screen, hit Volume Up button to enter ODIN Download mode.

Step 3. Connect a micro-USB cable from your Galaxy S4 to your computer.

Step 4. Download and run ODIN program:

If you see a highlighted yellow box, you are good to go, otherwise install Samsung USB drivers.

Step 5. For U.S./Canadian Qualcomm-based Galaxy S4, see our Galaxy S4 stock firmware page and download the appropriate stock firmware for your phone. (If you don’t see it, that means it’s not available yet but will be available soon.)

For international GT-i9500 or GT-i9505, go to SamFirmware.com and download the appropriate stock firmware for your model/country Galaxy S4.

Unzip the stock firmware, you should find a file ending in “tar.md5″. That is the stock firmware you will flash using ODIN.

Step 6. DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE but hit the PDA button, select the stock firmware “tar.md5″ file and hit “Start” button. That’s it. This should take around 5-10 minutes. If you get stuck right after hitting “Start” button, try another USB port and turn off Kies in Task Manager.

Step 7. When done successfully, you will see “PASS!” and your Galaxy S4 will reboot.

If for some reason, you get “FAIL!” during the ODIN flashing process, simply reboot your phone into ODIN download mode and try again. Also, if you see some type of “Firmware error” during boot, just try running ODIN in that mode, that’s same as ODIN download mode.

Step 8. Once rebooted, your Galaxy S4 should be fully back to stock firmware.

Step 9. If for some reason, your phone doesn’t boot up or you want to erase EVERYTHING on your internal storage and the phone for returning for warranty, you can do a factory reset using stock recovery.

Power off your phone (or pull battery) and hold down Volume Up, Center Home, and Power buttons together.

Step 10. Keep holding down Volume Up and Center Home buttons but let go of Power button.

Step 11. Once in stock recovery, choose “wipe data/factory reset”.

Step 12. Choose “delete all user data”. WARNING! This will ERASE EVERYTHING ON YOUR INTERNAL STORAGE!

Step 13. Once done, reboot system.

Step 14. Once rebooted, you should find your Galaxy S4 completely back to Day 1 you got the phone, congrats!

FAQ

Q: I can’t find my firmware for my GT-i9500 or GT-i9505!

A: For GT-i9500 or GT-i9505, you can also use another country firmware as it’s compatible across all GT-i9500 or GT-i9505 respectively.

For example, if you couldn’t find German firmware for your GT-i9500, you can flash a Belgium firmware for your GT-i9500.

Samsung Rolls Out Android 4.3 XXUEMJ5 Official Firmware for Galaxy S4 (LTE) I9505

Samsung is finally rolling out its latest Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) update to Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 in several countries, starting with Germany. Though the update is being delivered after a small delay, it is said to be the most bug free and stable firmware till date.

The new Android 4.3 update comes with few visual changes, but includes a host of feature enhancements and optimisations. The update reportedly improves the speed and performance of the handset, as evident in the Antutu Benchmark which shows a score of 25-26K with Android 4.2.2 and a much improved score of 29-30K with Android 4.3.

SamMobile has recently tested a few internal builds as well as the latest official firmware to reveal the list of significant changes and improvements incorporated.

As the update is being rolled out in phases, it may take some time before it is available in your country. Carrier branded handsets may face a bit of delay as the firmware has to be optimised by the carrier before Samsung releases it as Over-The-Air (OTA) update.

How to Install Android 4.3 XXUEMJ5 on Galaxy S4 LTE I9505 via OTA

In order to update your Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 (LTE) via OTA, perform the following steps: Go to Settings > More > About Device and click Software update. The available firmware update should now be displayed on screen. Now tap Update again to begin firmware installation.

How to Update Galaxy S4 LTE I9505 with Android 4.3 XXUEMJ5 Jelly Bean Official Firmware

Step 1 - Download the official firmware for Galaxy S4 to your computer and extract the zip file.

Step 2 - Download ODIN v3.07 which is needed to install Android 4.3 on Galaxy S4 I9505.

Step 3 - Power off the phone and boot it into Download Mode. To do so, Press and hold Volume Down and Home buttons together, and then tap Power button until the construction Android robot with a triangle appears on screen. Now hit Power again to confirm entry into Download Mode.

Step 4 - Launch ODIN on computer and connect your phone to it while the phone is still in Download Mode.

Step 5 - When the phone connects successfully, one of the ID: COM boxes will turn yellow with the corresponding COM port number. This step might take some time. So, do not interrupt the process.

Step 6 - Now choose the files that need to be flashed or installed on your phone, which can be found among the extracted files in Step 1.

Click 'PDA' button and select the file named 'CODE'.
Tap 'Phone' button and click the file named 'MODEM'. Ignore this step if there is no such file.
Hit 'CSC' button and select file named 'CSC' in its name. Ignore this step if such file is missing.
Click 'PIT' button and select the .pit file. Ignore this step if such file is absent.

Step 8 - In ODIN, select the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options. But, the Re-Partition option must be checked ONLY if you chose a .PIT file in the previous step.

Step 9 - Now click Start button in ODIN and firmware installation process will begin. It should take just a few minutes to complete.

Step 10 - Once the installation is complete, your phone will reboot. When the home screen appears, disconnect your phone from computer.

Your Samsung Galaxy S4 is now updated to Android 4.3 XXUEMJ5 official firmware. Go to Settings > About phone to verify.

Today we are giving you folks a yet another leaked Android 4.3 build for your Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505) but this time it’s one of the final builds – that means nothing will be included or excluded in future builds of Android 4.3 for the SGS4, except a few bug fixes and improvements here and there. But tech savvy users have already developed rooting methods, which vary depending on device. They are available on the web, and more and more Android users are resorting to them because of the powerful perks they provide, such as:

download of any app, regardless of the app store they’re posted on
extended battery life and added performance
updates to the latest version of Android if your device is outdated and no longer updated by the manufacturer
But if you do it improperly, it can create havoc. And even done properly, if your phone doesn’t have proper antivirus protection for Android, rooting leaves your device open to all sorts of malware.

What are the risks of rooting?

1. You can turn your smartphone into a brick. Well, not literally, but if you goof up the rooting process, meaning the code modifications, your phone software can get so damaged that your phone will basically be as useless as a brick.

Now to the process:

First off all, requirements:

CM Flare firmware update, (must be build 37 or higher.)

Step 1 : Check if there is a root access to ur device. Download this:

Step 2 : Check your CM Flare version build, Go to:
Settings -> about phone -> build number
must be atleast "V000037", if not, update your firmware first:
Go Here.
If already @ latest version proceed to step 3.

Step 2b: Download the above software update and put it at the root folder of your sd card. (Do not Unzip.)
Step 2c : Turn off your Mobile then Press and Hold volume (+) and Power Button @ the same time, do not release until it Flashes RED.
Step 2d : Navigate the menu using the Volume (+) or (-),
Select the .zip file you downloaded earlier and hit Power Button, wait til it is done, when it's done, reboot ur phone.
Let it update and proceed to Step 3,

Step 3 : Download this : CMFlareRoot_via_Recovery_by_newbie,
after downloading, put it @ the root folder of ur sd card. (again do not unzip!)
Step 4 : Enter Recovery mode - to enter recovery mode, turn off your mobile device then press hold volume (+) and power buttion @ the same time do not release until it flashes RED.

Step 5 : Navigate the menu using the Volume (+) or (-),
Select the .zip file you downloaded earlier and hit Power Button, wait til it is done, when it's done, reboot ur phone.
Let it update, then your phone has been rooted successfully~~!!

As you guys may know, Samsung takes some time to update its devices to the latest version of Android but always delivers the most stable and bug free build after a ton of R&D. It’s rumoured that Samsung will be releasing the Android 4.3 update for the Galaxy S4 sometime in October/November but we didn’t wanted you guys to wait that long, so we obtained a test firmware for all you Samsung fans out there.

Also, since HTC released Android 4.3 for the Developer Edition One, we just had to give some Android 4.3 love to the Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505) users. We would like to thank our insider because without our insider’s help we would not have been able to provide you folks with this firmware.

We have been testing this Android 4.3 test firmware since a few days now and can say that it’s really stable and the performance has received a significant boost, it’s much faster and lag free than Android 4.2.2. Samsung Knox and Samsung Wallet are present in this test firmware, Samsung Knox works like a charm but Samsung Wallet can’t be downloaded from Samsung servers at the moment. Also, there is a new Reading Mode which optimises the screen for reading, but only a few specific applications are able to use this feature, and there is a new improved keyboard as well. Most of the changes are under the hood, except a few minor UI changes here and there. Now the most interesting part, this firmware has improved colour reproduction of the display quite a bit and the text looks even sharper than before.

Keep in mind that Android 4.3 update is still under heavy development and Samsung may add more features before rolling out the official update itself.

- If you encounter any issues with the firmware (Any FC, Bootloop etc)
- Boot into recovery mode (Home+power+vol up)
- Choose to wipe/factory reset. (THIS WILL ERASE ALL OF YOUR DATA INCLUDING YOUR INTERNAL SD CARD!)
- Then choose reboot and you should be good to go!

How to remove the problem " There was a problem starting ...."

Recently i saw this problem in the internet, which i also experienced this

im having a problem with my Rundll32.exe "
There was a problem starting C:\Program Files(x86)\Browser Updater\TBUpdater.dll
The specified module could not be found."

so after hours of searching i found a solutin to this problem.

A "Cannot find...", "Cannot start..., "Cannot load...". "Could not run..." Cannot run" "Error loading..." or "specific module could not be found" message is usually related to malware that was set to run at startup but the referenced file(s) has been deleted after a malware scan leaving behind a registry entry pointing to a file that does not exist.

It could be from a malicious software removal or an uninstalled application. The entry may have a curious looking name since it was probably generated at random when the malware was installed.

Windows is trying to load this file but cannot locate it since the file was mostly likely removed during an scan for malicious software. However, an associated orphaned startup parameter or registry entry remains and is telling Windows to load the file when you boot up or login.

You need to remove the referenced entry so Windows stops trying to run the file. It may or may not be in the registry. Autoruns (see below) will find the item no matter where it is.

If you just locate and uncheck the item in msconfig, that disables the item but does not remove the reference to the bogus startup item from your computer. Disabling in msconfig It is the lazy mans solution (or the uninformed mans solution) and leaves you with a sloppy XP configuration.

If you are comfortable editing the registry you can search for and remove the reference from or remove it using a popular third party tool called Autoruns.

Before making any changes to your registry by hand or with third party tools, be sure to make a backup of the registry first. Here is a link to a tutorial to registry backup:

Autoruns does not install anything on your computer. It will display all of the startup locations where the reference might be so you can disable it or delete it completely. Here is the download link for Autoruns:

Launch Autoruns.exe and wait for it to finish populating the list of entries.

When Autoruns is finished scanning your system, it will say "Ready" at the bottom left corner. Autoruns can be a little intimidating at first if you have never see it before since it displays a lot of information. You are really only interested in a couple sections.

The problem item is usually in the usually the system startup or user startup entries so click the Logon tab.

Scroll through the list and look for a startup entry related to the file(s) in the error message.

If you don't find it there, look for it in the Everything tab.

Right-click on the offending entry and choose to delete it. If you don't see it in Autoruns you will have edit the registry and remove the item from the Startup folder there. Autoruns displays the same information though.

Type > regedit and click OK.
In the registry, click on File > Export.
Choose a destination folder for your Backup.

Note: Even if the icon is green someone might have found a way around the protection system so it's worth checking that the applications path is always the same as the location from which you launched the application. You should also check that the MD5 matches the MD5 found online.

Virus scanner results

All virus scanner detection's are a false-positive as long as the MD5 matches. Simply turn off your anti-virus while installing the loader.
