Smoke n’ Spice’s old Ottawa Street location is set to open soon as a new concept!

Smoke n’ Spice outgrew its popular space on Ottawa Street last year and moved into the former Montana’s at 7470 Tecumseh Road East in January. The owners had been planning a new concept for the former spot at 1515 Ottawa Street.

While Smoke n’ Spice was a pork restaurant, Sweet T’s Soul Cookin is destined to become the place to go for chicken in Windsor. Billed as “Downhome fried chicken and more”, Sweet T’s will have all sorts of southern favourites like Chicken and Waffles, quarter and half chicken plates, family buckets, and of course wings.

Chicken will be available in two varieties: Homestyle or Sweet ‘n’ Sassy.

Starters include deviled eggs, beef jerky, french fries with cheese curds and spicy Tasso ham gravy, a fried goat cheese salad and grilled jalapeno cornbread among others.

Sweet T’s will serve a Lousiana Shrimp Creole with Andouille sausage served over cheesy grits. Entrees include Smoked Beef and Housemade Bacon Meatloaf, Smoked Chicken Wings, a Pimento Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and an American cheese, shredded lettuce, housemade pickles, and Comeback sauce cheeseburger.

Sides include a Napa Cabbage Slaw with peanut dressing, Baked Beans with Andouille sausage, Black-Eyed Pea Salad, Mashed Sweet Potatoes, Collard Greens with smoked turkey, potato and egg salad and french fries.

Sweet T’s Soul Cookin’ will officially open to the public on Thursday May 24th at 1515 Ottawa Street.

Windsor Police are investigating after receiving a complaint of suspicious behaviour in the area of Assumption and Gladstone last week.

Last Wednesday May 9th, a 26-year-old woman attended Police Headquarters and reported that at 5:45am on that date, she had been waiting for a transit Windsor Bus at the corner of Assumption Street at Gladstone Avenue, and as she waited at the bus stop, a man approached her and attempted to engage the woman in a conversation. The woman told the man that she wasn’t interested in speaking with him, and after that, the man began making sexually suggestive comments to the woman. He also pulled his pants down and exposed his genitals to her. An approaching Transit Windsor Bus scared the man off and he was last seen running from the scene westbound on Assumption Street

The suspect was described as a black male with a very dark complexion, 5’10 – 6′ tall and 150 lbs. He had a “skinny” build and was approximately 40 years of age. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black dress pants, white boxer shorts and no shoes or socks.

The subsequent investigation into the incident revealed that on May 8th another woman had observed a man of similar description staring at her from behind a tree in the 400 block of Lincoln Road.

The suspect described in this incident matched the above described man and in addition, he had very short hair or a shaved head and he was wearing a waist length leather jacket, black running shoes with no laces or socks.

The 2012 New Holland Pro-Rodeo Series kicks-off in southwestern Ontario with the “Country 95.9 Rock N Rodeo” held this weekend at the Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village in the heart of Essex County.

In addition to world class professional rodeo all weekend, visitors will be treated to live country music each evening including one of Canada’s hottest artists Dean Brody, blistering fast barrel racing, the Country 95.9 Rock N Rodeo Queen Contest and line dancing. The Vendor Village featuring local artists, shops, food concessions and a beer garden create a festive atmosphere throughout weekend which includes pony rides, a petting zoo and a mini-midway for the kids.

Proceeds from the weekend activities are dedicated to two important local charities: the Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village and the Windsor Essex Therapeutic Riding Association.

Mayor Eddie Francis will lead the 6th Annual Mayor’s Walk followed by the City’s 120th Birthday Celebration this holiday Monday.

This free family oriented event marks the beginning of the 2012 summer festival season.

Following the walk the city encourages everyone to stay and enjoy a variety of activities including arts & crafts, larger than life inflatables, including obstacle courses in the Kids Zone, live entertainment with Bigg Wiggle, free food, and, of course, our traditional birthday cupcakes at the festival plaza.

Warm up start at 10am and the walk starts at 10:30am at Assumption Park on the riverfront identified by inflatable start line

The Birthday celebration is from 11am to 2pm.

The University of Windsor has launched three mobile apps to help students and community members find out about campus information, check their grades, read the daily news, find out the soup du jour at food locations and even listen to a live stream of CJAM 99.1.

The new apps were released for iPhone, BlackBerry and Android on Thursday morning as part of Campus Technology Day.

The myUWindsor apps provide handheld access to all services and information students would typically access on the University’s home page, through the student portal and the Collaboration and Learning Environment Windsor (CLEW) learning management system.

After months of design, preparation and paving, the Windsor-Essex Parkway’s first diversion road has opened to traffic.

Westbound traffic traveling after St. Clair College will be presented with a near seamless transition as the road bends to the right through an area previously occupied by houses.

The diversion road, known as “D4″, is necessary to move traffic off of a portion of the ages-old Highway 3 so work on the Parkway can commence in that area. The diversion is only serving westbound traffic at this time.
