I don’t know if it’s to get the wine off the shelf, or to differentiate themselves, but I got this wine for $16 dollars! I didn’t know it was a $40+ wine. This is a full-bodied, delicious and oaky chardonnay. It tastes like they put giant oak chips in the barrels. If that’s the style you enjoy, you’ll love this wine.

I very rarely buy the same wine more than once or twice because I like to try different wines from different regions. Well, I’ve bought this wine many times for myself, and to share with friends, and everyone always loves it. It’s ripe, full-bodied and delicious. I’m giving it 4.5 stars because of how good it is for under $20.

I really like Picket Fence’s chardonnay and pinot noir…they are both juicy representations of each grape. I expected the same from this cab, but it was mellow. Good, but not memorable. On a more positive note, the last 2 glasses were better than the first 2 glasses because the bottle was open for two days. So maybe the secret to this cab is letting it breathe.

Pepperwoood wines prove that you can spend less than $10 and still be really happy. This is the perfect wine for the holidays if you’re entertaining a lot of friends and family because of the value quality ratio. The winemakers, Don Sebastiani & Sons, also make Smoking Loon, Aquinas and other affordable but good wines I enjoy. This merlot is medium bodied with pretty ripe berries and it’s relatively smooth. Their zinfandel is good too!

I say value wines because Cameron Hughes works with vineyards in trouble to package their juice under his label at a discount. So for example, this chardonnay may have only cost $13, but it’s probably $20 juice (I’m guessing). This is a nice, balanced white. It has both oak and fruit so it’s definitely a crowd-pleaser.

This is one of the wines that was included in the pack. I’m a fan of wine from Chile and this was definitely a nice treat. It’s got the smoothness from the cabernet (95%) with a slight bite from the syrah (5%). And it’s under $15.

They offer some ordinary wines like a cabernet and chardonnay, but then they come out with some really neat red blends like Phantom and this Essential Red blend. It’s a blend of Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. It’s pretty much a lighter version of Phantom. It’s a very smooth, easy drinking type of red at a super affordable price.
