Double-exposures in motion.

Breeder was invited back to create the opening titles for Analogue/Digital, so once again, we threw ourselves into the project and didn't hold back. This year, we developed an ambitious aesthetic based upon the idea of double exposure, inspired by Alabaster's amazing track and the conference's program design. We worked around the theme of binary, juxtaposing the urban sprawl and nature, black and white, flight and fall, and unification and disintegration. It was a labour of love and we couldn't be prouder with the end result.

ChildLine: First Step

ChildLine is a UK-based, confidential, free, 24-hour counseling service for children and young people under the age of 19. ChildLine deals with any issue that causes distress or concern, one of which is unfortunately sexual abuse. For this project, we were approached by YCN Studio in London to craft an animated piece that would help children who are considering contacting ChildLine feel comfortable about the process of speaking with a counselor about sexual abuse.

Bassawards "Call for Entries"

BassAwards, the International Awards for Broadcast Design, kindly invited Lobo to be a Brand Partner for its 2013 edition. Lobo contributed with a teaser and a promotional piece created in partnership with Brandia.tv, calling for entries for categories ranging from television to film to video games.
Keeping with the spirit of the awards, whose objective is to reward creativity and excellence in design, Lobo devised a storyline that represented in a metaphorical and symbolic way the workings of a designer’s mind during the creative process – from the throes of uncertainty before the blank page (or screen) to the “eureka” moment when everything finally comes together.
Visually, Lobo took a cue from the very name of the awards, which pays tribute to the godfather of motion design, Saul Bass – and did its own homage to the venerable artist by referencing several of the film titles he devised for directors like Hitchcock, Preminger and many others. The main focus of the production team’s research was on his more abstract pieces, and that inspiration resulted in a dynamic stream of animations featuring geometric shapes that, however abstract, display a lively, smart personality throughout the film. A minimal color palette and a jazzy soundtrack (courtesy of another Brand Partner, Banjo Music) complete the overall 1950s feel.

For the Google I/O 2013 Keynote we set about visualizing the evolution of the Android platform, from the very first device to the current connected world of 900 million Android devices.

To animate hundreds of millions of individual devices and connections, I built a procedural line drawing system in Houdini that allowed us to finely control the animation of the dots and lines. I also animated the line drawing in most of the shots.

Pianoworks 13 is a short movie, which combines live action and motion design. Over an original soundtrack played by Polerik Rouviere, four dancers perform different styles (break dance, new style, popping). The film illustrates the link between body, instrument and instrumentalist. The moves give birth to a sort of calligraphic language which is a representation of the moves themselves.

To put into words what it actually took to made this film happened is very difficult, more with my very deficient written english, so i will be short on words and leave you to watch the movie.
Anyways i need to say that it took us over a year since the first pitch in August 2012, when i just sent some illustrations, until Jan 2013 that we got the GO to start producing this spot.
Over all this time, we got a lot of ups and downs and literally the project got into the drawer several times. I did a lot of drawings, we developed a lot of ideas, we traveled, we met, we drank, we talked, we sent mails, we did storyboards, we change shots, but always in the best of moods and we are actually sorry that it came to an end, because we wanted to keep on this wave of frames and drawings.
Thanks there to the creative team @ Martin, for giving me this chance, i learned stuff, i enjoyed stuff and made some friends on the way. And thanks to my team here because they're awesome and we together sweat the same to work this out.
This campaign has more surprises to come over the next months, and i'm happy to be part of something bigger with studios i learned from and i admire a lot.
I don't know if you will enjoy this as much as i enjoyed doing it. But we certainly made our best for that to happen!

The 30 second anthem spot answers the age old question "Wonder if…" with a romp through a painted CG world of vampires, wolves, and 3 legendary little piggies. Featuring the awesome voice stylings of Owl City, the campaign inspires the childlike wonder in all of us… We can't wait to see where it goes from here.

Tallest Heights

Inspired by the drawn-on-film pieces by Norman Mclaren, Len Lye, and Man Ray, Becky & Joe collaborated with musicians Delicate Steve to create the charming and beautiful “Tallest Heights.” This work is part of the “Hello, Again” series presented by the Lincoln Motor Company, which asks filmmakers to reimagine the familiar into something fresh and new. The animation is made from a combination of ink, paint, bleach, and scratching into different film sizes. The final images are high-resolution scans of super 8, 16, and 35mm film strips and acetate sheets.
