According to NPD's weekly report, Windows 7 has outsold Windows Vista by 234% during the first few days after launch which includes all pre-orders. The increase in units can be partially attributed to the deep discounts offered on pre-orders but total sales in dollars is up 82% over Windows Vista showing a big increase in both units and sales. Microsoft cleared up what was obvious to many already: you can't use the Windows 7 Upgrade version legally if don't qualify for an upgrade. If a user tricks the upgrade installer to setup Windows 7 on a brand new PC, the install is not licensed properly and thus illegal.
