Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 launched 16 Feb 2012, is the world’s FIRST tablet with a Super AMOLED Plus display.

The gorgeous and innovative tablet has been on my wish list ever since the announcement months ago. It’s 0.7” wider than the previous Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus model, but packs much higher-end specs and looks to aim for the high-end user and the more fashion savvy crowd.

Its brushed metal backing, 340 g weight and slim 7.89mm thick thinness is absolutely drool worthy.

Here’s a quick overview of the specification of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 Android tablet:-

• 7.7”  1280×800 (WXGA) Super AMOLED Plus display
• 1.4GHz Dual Core processor
• 16GB internal memory (expandable up to 32GB microSD slot included)
• Running Android OS 3.2 Honeycomb (should be upgradeable to Android OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich)
• 3 megapixel rear camera (with Auto-Focus and LED flash); Front facing 2 megapixel camera (for video calling)

Pricing and Availability

The Recommended Retail Price (RRP) of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is RM 2,099 and is already currently available in the market, from 17 Feb onwards.

If you don’t wish to fork out all these moolah buying the device outright, you can choose to purchase it by signing up with any of the bundled plans with DiGi or Celcom.

Samsung showcased the Galaxy Tab 7.7 to American Express CardMembers

On 17 Feb, Samsung Malaysia Electronics held a glitzy night to showcase this tablet to the American Express high-end cardholders.

The members got a chance to preview the vivid display on the FIRST Android tablet in the world with Super AMOLED Plus display. Members who purchased the device on this event got a special offer to include Swarovski plating and name engraving on their device.

Let me introduce you to the local stand up comedy scene… with the amazing guys of The Comedy Club KL.

The Comedy Club KL (Asian Leg)

I have been watching The Comedy Club KL shows since they started the first season in Velvet Underground, Zouk Club in 2010 (I think). The current show is on it’s 3rd Season, happening at various locations ranging from dinner, theatre or club shows. Personally, I have always caught the club shows.

The various seasons of The Comedy Club KL includes amazing local and (mostly) international stand up comics from USA, Canada, England, Ireland, Australia, etc. I have seen some great and amazing acts such as Sugar Sammy and Paul XXX These amazing comedians go on a SEA tour where they stop by Singapore and then over to KL for a few nights a week here. They also tend to stop at other cities in the region like Cambodia, Thailand, Jakarta, etc.

Each season has a show every month (it’s currently just finished their Feb 2012 show) and the next one will be in March 2012. The line-up includes 3 acts (usually) and information on the show, tickets, locations, comedians, etc are updated on their sites and Facebook Pages.

Comedy Kao Kao

Other than these international show, the amazing organisers also operates another series of stand up comedy shows more for the local scene. Aiming to introduce this to the local market and showcase some new talents in the stand up comedy scene – there’s Comedy Kao Kao.

I just discovered this series of show, where it’s held at The Bee, Publika, Solaris Dutamas for a more local crowd. The agenda includes usually 3 highlight acts and 7 Open Mic performances. The 3 highlight acts are usually local comedians, with great local jokes that will guarantee to make you laugh.

Each season has a show every second Thursday of the month (it’s currently also just finished their Feb 2012 show) and the next one will be on 8th March 2012. Information on the show, tickets, locations, comedians, etc are updated on their Facebook Page.

Inspired by the great acts I see for over 2 years now at The Comedy Club KL at Velvet Underground, on one show, I heard the announcement of the host on their next Open Mic performances. After a few challenges from some friends (it started as a bet) and lots of deliberating on my part… well – I decided to give it a go.

I never shy away from challenges. I believe you constantly need to step out of your comfort zone and try new things. You’d never know if it was something that you could potentially be good at? Or maybe you might learn something from the experience, or meet new and great people? I was previously an emcee before, so I have no issues with public speaking. But to tell jokes that will make people laugh with me? Well, that’s a different thing.

Once I emailed the organisers and found out that I only needed to fill a 3 minute long set, I was sold. 3 minutes didn’t seem too scary. I was starting to gather materials in my head already.

In less than a week after confirming my slot in the Open Mic Stand Up Comedy performance on 9th Feb 2012 (Thursday) at The Bee, Publika – I announced it to my friends and family on my Facebook (“*LIKE* my Facebook page here) and Twitter (follow me on Twitter here). I got a handful of friends who came to support me. Or maybe to see me fail in public???

Honestly, days leading up to the show night, I had a couple of sleepless nights. I was so nervous on the actual night, I can puke! Again, it’s not the public speaking, it’s trying to make people laugh. Minutes to my turn on stage, I was nervous as hell. But once I started, after my first few sentences, I calmed down and just let it all flow…

How do you think I did?

After it was all over and I watched the recording back a million times, I know I have analysed it to death. Overall, it wasn’t great. Neither was it a total failure. Honestly, I am quite happy about how it all went down. especially for a first-timer. And compared to some other Open Mic first-timers that night. Most importantly, I wasn’t boo-ed off the stage. *phew*

Now, a week after the performance, I am still thinking of ways I could’ve improved on my performance. I know I should let it go already… Which, funnily, how some of those who came to see me live (my husband, especially) is egging me to do it again. He thinks I didn’t do too bad, I should try again and with more shows, I might have something here.

I combine both these loves with my gadget love for my HP Deskjet Ink Advantage K209g All-In-One Printer, of course. If you don’t know, I got the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage printer last month and I wrote about it here with the unboxing video, too. The All-In-One (AIO) functionality of the printer means that I can not only PRINT, but also COPY documents (no need to go out to photocopy stuff anymore) and SCAN documents and pictures, which is my most used function.

With the HP Solutions software (included with the printer) is installed on your computer, the desktop icon for HP Solutions helps you manage all your needs with the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage printer.

Additional software includes the HP Photo Creations software, which I played around with to create a Photo Collage for my husband.

There are so many things you can do with HP Photo Creations – Photo Books, Cards and Calendars, Prints and Posters, etc. Initially, I wanted to make a Desk calendar with some photos I have, then I found a template for a Photo Collage cube!!!

As a hobbyist photographer, I take quite a lot of pictures of my doggie, Oscar. He is my (reluctant) model, posing for my photography practice. I decided to use these recent pictures I took for this Photo Collage project.

All you need to do, is upload and select the images you want on your Photo Collage project, select the theme (I chose Valentine’s), edit accordingly to your liking (you can change frame borders, re-arrange the pictures, add images or text, etc) and follow the on-screen instructions to finish the project. It is absolutely idiot-proof, I tell ya.

Once you’re done, you can either choose to send the picture to HP’s suppliers for external print (which will be shipped to you), or print it with your HP Deskjet printer. For this project, I used my brand spankin’ new HP Deskjet Ink Advantage printer.

Note to self : Try their external print supplier for a Photo Book project in future.

This Valentine’s Day Photo Collage cube was so easy to do.

There were very clear pictorial instructions on how to fold this into the cube.

I also tweeted this with a picture, which was subsequently retweeted by a few other.

The building in question is Menara Binjai, which is an office building right behind the Ampang Park LRT. The crane was hovering at the top of the building. The police started barricading and closing the road to on-going traffic.

The biggest damage to a Proton Wira (I think) parked directly under the crane. Illegally parked, mind you, just beside the construction site barrier.

UPDATE : Commenter Lee pointed out that this Proton Wira belonged to one of the contractors on the site. Poor guy.

UPDATE2: The maroon Proton Satria next to it were damaged at the rear.

The secondary damage was to a brand new Lexus which was parked across the street. Illegally as well. Parts of the crane hit the first Proton, scrap metals bounced off and hit this unfortunate Lexus.

UPDATE3 : The Star report here (provided by commenter Ngtitao) cited that the Lexus is a Toyota Harrier that was hit while in motion.

The damage on the road of both cars. The piece in the middle is a metal sheet. The force of the fall was so strong that that piece of metal sheet was embedded into the tarmac on the road.

The police crime scene tapes to block off pedestrians from stepping too close. Apparently, there were still bits falling off from the crane at the top floor of the building.

The firemen were just standing around inspecting the damage for awhile. I guess they must be waiting for CSI to arrive before they can move the “evidence”.

The owner of the Lexus came out about 3 hours after the accident. I suspect he must have the biggest shock of his life. He proceeded to remove his belongings from his now damaged car. No news on the owner of the most damaged Proton.

It’s now almost 4 pm and the clean-up crew is working on removing the damaged cars and scrapnel on the road.

Come rush hour traffic time, I doubt the road will be open to public. I suggest those working in town to avoid Jalan Binjai, off Jalan Ampang next to Menara Citibank. Find alternative routes, OK?

Moral of the story : DON’T PARK ILLEGALLY!!! ESPECIALLY NEXT TO A CONSTRUCTION SITE!!!

Unboxing the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage

As someone who works from home (yours truly), having the perfect printer, scanner and copier is a necessity – just like the need for an internet connection. There is absolutely no compromise when I hunt for a new printer. All these years, HP printers have not disappointed me.

Obviously, I got the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage printer for myself. OBVIOUSLY!

I have now started to hook up the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage printer and installed all the necessary drivers and softwares. I have started to print several test pages. I will start to use their scan and copy functions very soon – which I will definitely share on this blog.

So far, in less than a week with the printer (just past Chinese New Year and back to regularly scheduled work routine), I am indeed more than pleased with the HP Deskjet Ink Advantage printer.
