Dropbox for Android (and soon for iOS) now allows you to automatically upload your photos and videos from your device.

Your files will be uploaded to a private Camera Uploads folder whilst retaining their file size and quality. This feature is available regardless of whether you’re on WiFi or using your data plan. Users get 500MB Dropbox space for their first automatic upload with the possibility to get as much as 3GB extra for free, the more you automatically upload.

The new version of the Desktop apps for Windows and Mac will also come with this new feature. It’ll work on your desktop by automatically detecting images on your phone, camera or SD card.

Windows Phone and iOS users already have this feature available on their devices in the form of SkyDrive and iCloud respectively.

Official word is, the next instalment of one of EA‘s popular shooters, Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be coming in October.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter is the sequel to the 2010 reboot of the Medal of Honor series and will once again follow Tier 1 Operators. Multiplayer gameplay this time will not be developed by DICE. Development of the game and multiplayer will be developed by Danger Close. It will be powered by the Frosbite 2.0 engine, the same game engine behind Battlefied 3.

More details are expected to be released at the Game Developer’s Conference next month.

The very popular torrent search site, The Pirate Bay, could be blocked in the UK after the England and Wales high court ruled that “both users and the operators of [TPB] infringe the copyrights of the claimants … in the UK.”

Geoff Taylor, Chief Executive of The British Phonographic Industry, which represents UK music groups said: “The ruling helps clarify the law on website blocking and we will now proceed with our application to have the site blocked to protect the UK’s creative industries from further harm.”

A ruling is expected to be made in June to decide whether or not UK Internet Service Providers should block access to TPB.

A new release of Angry Birds, Angry Birds Space, will be upon us soon. Rovio plans to release its “biggest game launch since the original Angry Birds!” on 22nd March.

Details on Angry Birds Space will be available “early March” with a simultaneous launch on mobile gaming, animation, retail, and publishing on 22nd March.

For now, we know the physics of the new game will allow for zero gravity and a new “lightspeed destruction” ability. Progression through the game will take players from one planet to another.

From re-imaging the infamous Blue Screen of Death to re-designing the Windows logo. The Windows 8 logo is heavily influenced by the Metro design that can be found on Windows Phone devices and even on the most recent Xbox 360 dashboard update. It’s clear Microsoft is going for uniformity in all it’s operating systems.

This was the team’s thinking behind the creation of the new logo:

• We wanted the new logo to be both modern and classic by echoing the International Typographic Style (or Swiss design) that has been a great influence on our Metro style design philosophy. Using bold flat colors and clean lines and shapes, the new logo has the characteristics of way-finding design systems seen in airports and subways.
• It was important that the new logo carries our Metro principle of being “Authentically Digital”. By that, we mean it does not try to emulate faux-industrial design characteristics such as materiality (glass, wood, plastic, etc.). It has motion – aligning with the fast and fluid style you’ll find throughout Windows 8.
• Our final goal was for the new logo to be humble, yet confident. Welcoming you in with a slight tilt in perspective and when you change your color, the logo changes to reflect you. It is a “Personal” Computer after all.

Anyone with a good memory (or old enough) will remember the original Windows 1.0 logo wasn’t too dissimilar to the Windows 8 logo. Better yet, see below for a visual history of the previous Windows logos:

The mobile version of Microsoft‘s OneNote is finally available for Android users. The Android version of OnNote appears to be similar in functions to that of Windows Phone and iOS versions.

You can create, edit and sync your notes through Microsoft own SkyDrive. The first 500 notes can be stored for free with a one time fee from within the app to remove this limit.

This will be a chance for the general public to test out the new UI for Windows. The Developer Preview has been available since last year. Windows 8 will run on both PCs and Tablets and will use the same UI as Windows Phone 8. Developers will also be able to use the same code for both systems.

The Consumer Preview will allow access to the Microsoft Store as well as come with some preinstalled apps:

In the first of its kind, an 83 year old woman who was suffering from a serious jaw infection has had her entire lower mandible replaced with a 3D printed model. The surgery was carried out by a team of medical researchers from Belgium and the Netherlands.

Due to the patient’s age and other factors, it was decided that traditional re-constructive surgery wasn’t ideal. The team researches decided to team up with Xilloc, a company that specialises in custom made implants, and LayerWise, a metal additive manufacturer to create the titanium implant. Powdered titanium was used for the 3D printing process with a high-precision laser to heat the metal powder particles and fuse them together.

The implant was designed using your typical 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. Once the printing of the implant was complete, it was sprayed with bone substitute compound to prevent the patient’s body from rejecting it, before being surgically implanted.

Just a day after surgery, the patient was able to speak and swallow normally. Which wouldn’t have been the case with the more intrusive, yet traditional re-constructive surgery. This bodes well for the future of medicine as we can expect more instances of this method being used.

The latest version of Skype, version 5.8, has been released for Windows users with some nice new features.

The update allows users to now make calls in full 1080p HD, providing they have a webcam that supports it. You can now also make calls to your Facebook friends that don’t have Skype installed. Skype Premium users now have the feature of sharing screens with all conference chat members.

The other features include push to talk, Bing Bar integration and being able to hide offline Facebook contacts. Head over to the Skype Blog to download the latest version.

Kinect for Windows and version 1.0 of the Software Development Kit that accompanies it has been taken out of beta by Microsoft.

The Windows specific Kinect supports up to 4 Kinect sensors on 1 PC and a ‘near mode’ functionality which allows it to see objects as close as 40cm to the sensor.

Kinect for Windows costs $249.99 (about £158) and can be purchased from the Microsoft Store or Amazon. Although the Microsoft Store is currently listing the sensors as ‘out of stock’ and Amazon could take up to 4 weeks for shipping.

Microsoft plans on releasing “updates to our SDK and runtime 2-3 times per year.”
