Offer To Share Someone’s Burden

Offering to share the burden of a friend can be the most important thing.

Feeling alone in the world is the worst thing a lot of us have to cope with, and the wonderful thing is that one of the easiest ways to feel less alone is to offer to share the burden for somebody you care about. It might be listening to a friend’s troubles, making dinner for an elderly couple, offering to look after a single parent’s kids so she can have the night off. It might be giving somebody a ride to work when their car breaks down, or sending a text message to a lonely friend to let them know you’re thinking of them.

The thing is, I think, when you’re thinking of somebody else’s burdens you aren’t so focussed on your own burdens. It works for me!

Change – Be Surprising

Sometimes you need to be surprising!

Your friends, family, co-workers, they all expect you to be the way you usually are. It can be really hard to change – to act differently – when everybody around you is expecting you to still be the same person you were before.

Being surprising can be a very good way to change. It jolts those people into seeing that you are different now, and then they can begin to build their picture of the “new you”.

Eat Your Vegetables

Eating your veggies is looking after yourself!

Looking after yourself doesn’t necessarily include eating your veggies, but eating in a sensible way most of the time is generally a good idea. I like the “everything in moderation – including moderation itself” theory of eating myself, and generally try to eat healthily most of the time. Also, this is one of my favourite quotes ever:

According to diet lore, ‘indulging’ or ‘giving in to temptation’ is a sin. Strangling a few people is a sin. Invading East Timor is a sin. Ethnic Cleansing is a sin. Testing nuclear weapons in the Pacific is a sin. I’m sorry, but eating doesn’t quite make the grade. Kaz Cooke

Accept Help Gracefully

Learning to accept help gracefully is a difficult task.

Work on learning to accept help gracefully. Asking for help and accepting help are much more difficult than offering help, but they can be mastered. Accepting help gracefully is the gift you can give to people who offer help to you.

Accepting help from people can even be a way to make new friends too!

Now I know that I am larger than this pain, I can experience more self-love daily. Healing doesn’t care about the years, or about the counting. I think it is timeless and without age. It waits for our souls to shift into acceptance. SARK, The Bodacious Book Of Succulence
