Apple TV hackers will be able to update to ABC.com availability "within the next few days," and Windows and Ubuntu users are, unfortunately, in the lurch for now (likely due to the network site's third-party plug-in requirements for Windows and general non-support for Linux). With the NBC/Fox coverage of Hulu and CBS.com already supported, this puts all four of the major broadcast networks into Boxee, for at least a majority of their most popular shows.
boxee gets Lost [Boxee blog]

Lucky for us, the internet's full of tools that make finding just about anyone a breeze.

For this week's Hive Five, we want to hear which search engines you use when hunting down old associates, newer friends, and people you've just lost tabs on. We've covered tons of search engines over the years designed to help you find people by name, old email addresses, old street addresses, and so forth. Now we want to know which one works the best. Photo by Victoria Peckham.

Hive Five nominations take place in the comments, where you post your favorite tool for the job. We get hundreds of comments, so to make your nomination clear, please include it at the top of your comment like so:
VOTE: Portable App Goes Here
. Please don't include your vote in a reply to another commenter. Instead, make your vote and reply separate comments. If you don't follow this format, we may not count your vote. To prevent tampering with the results, votes from first-time commenters may not be counted. After you've made your nomination, let us know what makes it stand out from the competition.

About the Hive Five: The Hive Five feature series asks readers to answer the most frequently asked question we get: "Which tool is the best?" Once a week we'll put out a call for contenders looking for the best solution to a certain problem, then YOU tell us your favorite tools to get the job done. Every weekend, we'll report back with the top five recommendations and give you a chance to vote on which is best. The functionality of the default buttons include, from left to right:

Copy the current site URL or custom formatted URL.

Shorten the URL using your favorite service or right-click for more options.

Search the current site using Google for the selected keyword. It takes more dried fruit to feel full (the natural water in fruit is filling) and that means more calories. On top of that, many dried fruits are covered in added sugar. One fistful of raisins contains as many calories as a whole pound of fresh grapes

This may sound like bad news for anyone who's been relying on these snacks to get through the day on their new diet, but don't worry, there are still all kinds of delicious and healthy snacks out there. For example, try out one of these 20 healthy foods that cost $1 or less or these other healthy snacks under a dollar. This list contains a few familiar snacks if you remember these 12 "healthy foods" we covered over a year ago, but both suggest steering clear of a few different foods that most of us would assume are healthy, so check out both to be safe.

Keep in mind that neither post is claiming that you should avoid these foods altogether, or that they're bad for you. Instead, just remember when you reach for your veggie chips that you may be better off grabbing an actual veggie every once in a while.

Five 'Healthy' Snacks That Aren't So Healthy [Newsweek]

Linux/Mac only: Social bookmarking service Delicious is a great way to save and share your bookmarks, but what happens if they go the way of JournalSpace and lose all your data? You need backups!

Since Delicious is owned by Yahoo there isn't a serious risk of complete data loss, but it's better to have a local backup of your data than risk losing your account with no recourse for data retrieval. Since there are a number of ways to accomplish this, we'll cover the geekiest method today, which was derived from but slightly different from the article linked below.

Open up a terminal prompt and type in the following, replacing username and password with your Delicious credentials.

curl -k --user username:password -o backup.xml -O 'https://api.del.icio.us/v1/posts/all'

If you don't have curl installed, you can also use this wget command to perform the exact same task:

wget --no-check-certificate --user=username --password=password -Obackup.xml https://api.del.icio.us/v1/posts/all

At this point the backup.xml file should contain an xml representation of your bookmarks. You could even get really slick and schedule this as a daily or weekly cron job.

You can alternatively create a manual backup at any time by simply navigating your web browser to
https://api.del.icio.us/v1/posts/all
, entering your Delicious credentials when prompted, and then saving the resulting xml to a file. Note: Instead of doing backups you could synchronize with your browser using the official Delicious extensions for Firefox or Internet Explorer.

For more on local backups for your cloud data, check out Gina's guide to backing up Gmail with Fetchmail or the previously mentioned Gmail Backup utility.

Backing up Delicious [rentzsch.com]
