Frog

Dark green and slimy, I am
a frog in its natural habitat
jumping around looking for
my favorite food.

Shh… I am looking for flies.

I have to be very sneaky
to catch them.
Once they come closer and closer,
Snap! I caught it.

Crunch! Crunch! Crunch!

I always tell my mom to make me
a fly sandwich, but she says no.

I always say, “But I am so hungry
I could eat a horse,”

And she says,

“You’re too little to eat a horse.”

The Horses’ Poet is Thankful Forever

I’m thankful
for horses.
They gallop
in the wind
like a lion’s
mane flowing
in the breeze,
like a poet’s
mind thinking of
ideas forever.

I love
being a poet.
I write
about
horses, thankful
for jazz music
forever.

Thankful horses,
glad to sleep.
Poets love
to write
about anything
they want.
Also God’s soul
rest in peace
without being disturbed
forever.

Forever, at
bedtime, I think
thankful horses
should do silly
dances and
act like
clowns. I
wish I was
a real
poet.

Young Writer Workshops at Discovery Green

Saturday morning Young Writer Workshops are held at Discovery Green every Saturday (March 13 – June 26, 2010) from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM. This is a free drop-in program that takes place at Discovery Green in the Houston Public Library Express building.

There’s no need to pre-register, but parents are asked to sign in at the library. Class size is limited so arrive on time. Parents can drop off their kids at the HPL building by 10:30 AM, and pick them up by 11:30 AM. Each Saturday creative writing workshop is team-taught by two WITS writers to ensure successful interaction with multi-age groups.

I’m from chocolate chip cookies

I am from concrete and skyscrapers
A lot of freeways and bayous
