Today the W.K. Kellogg Foundation recognized Parents United for Healthy Schools – a Chicago-based coalition of parents and guardians, educators and community leaders – for its significant contribution in making Chicago schools healthier places for kids. WKKF President and CEO Sterling K. Speirn presented this special recognition to parents Hilda Casarez and Karina Macedo at the Food & Community Conference in Asheville, N.C.

Today the W.K. Kellogg Foundation released a nationwide poll that showed strong support for making produce affordable and accessible to all Americans. In addition, three-quarters of Americans support a nationwide program to double the value of SNAP benefits (formerly food stamps) when used at farmers markets. The poll underscored that we all have a role to play in ensuring access to fresh produce. More than 80% of respondents agreed that officials at all levels—national, state and local—can help ensure access to good food. Read a Washington Post story about the poll.
