Jan High Retires

Jan High, who was the Leadership Development/Training Specialist, retired after 28 years of service to WMU. This announcement came after Missions Extravanganza 2011. Her last day was April 30, 2011. We are so grateful for Jan and her wisdom and work through WMU. May God bless her on her journey in this new stage of her life.

WMU NC Military Ministry Supports Our Troops

WMU NC recently presented Visa and phone calling gift cards to the USO of NC to distribute to troops all across our state. Cards were collected at Missions Day at the Women's ACC Basketball Tournament and Missions Extravaganza. About the book:

Forbidden romance, an unlikely martyr and an even more unlikely hero. Orphaned four years earlier when their parents, active in the African National Congress (ANC) movement against apartheid, were murdered—16-year-old Chioma and her 15-year-old brother Masozi now live and work on an Afrikaner family’s farm.

Loosely based on historical events and set near Pretoria, South Africa, in the violent upheaval prior to ANC leader Nelson Mandela’s release from prison in 1990 and his ascendance to the presidency of South Africa, this story of forbidden romance produces an unlikely martyr who is replaced by one even more unlikely.

CALL TO PRAYER FOR CHILE, March 7-14

The following message comes from Clara Huff, former IMB missionary to Chile and a current WMU NC Executive Board member. Please join us in praying for Chile.

The Baptist Convention of Chile, through the prayer chair person, has called for a week of prayer for Chile, March 7-14. Especially, they are asking that each family have a time of prayer together at 10 PM each evening for the country and the people who are affected. They also request all churches have a special half-hour prayer service this coming Sunday at 11:30 AM in every church, to be united in prayer for Chile. The young people specifically ask that everyone have a moment of prayer for Chile every 30 minutes. Also, the President-elect of Chile will take office in the next few days, and he needs our prayers.

The prayer chair person for the Convention is a former student of mine, Haydee Fonseca. Pray for the President of the Baptist Convention of Chile, Raquel Contreras (featured in Missions Mosaic, August 2009) as well. Her mother was Rebecca Eddinger, a missionary to Chile from Winston Salem, NC. Raquel needs our prayers.
