<p>Everybody wants to know &#8211; what&#8217;s the best way to get rid of that ridiculously stubborn stomach fat?</p>
<p>If you&#8217;ve ever felt that way then I can definitely relate. Personally my stomach has always been the hardest area for me to keep in shape. I&#8217;m tall with long legs so even when I&#8217;ve been heavier I still carry my lower body okay &#8230; but my belly. Ugh. It&#8217;s been a love hate relationship much of the time. I love it when it does what I want it to, and I hate it when it doesn&#8217;t. Smart of me, huh?</p>
<p>Anyway, I could definitely write a post on &#8217;10 ways&#8217; or even &#8217;20 ways&#8217; to burn belly fat once and for all, but for today I decided to keep it real simple. Sometimes 10 things is just too darn much and all you really want to know is what&#8217;s the <em>most</em> important thing to do. Right now. Today.*</p>
<p>Here it is &#8211; except because I just couldn&#8217;t bring myself to narrow it down to 1 item it&#8217;s kind of in 2 parts.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">IMPORTANT! Make sure you really read point #2 properly (<em>this</em> is the most important part!) as many girls who eat clean don&#8217;t get results precisely because they don&#8217;t do this. Don&#8217;t be one of them!</span></strong></p>
<h3><strong>how to finally lose belly fat</strong></h3>
<p><strong><span id="more-5415"></span>1. You are what you eat (part 1)</strong>.</p>
<p>Of course good nutrition is key. That&#8217;s a given. And possibly you <em>do</em> eat really clean, but you still can&#8217;t get rid of that last bit of belly fat.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s the thing.</p>
<p>I have found that most people lose body fat and keep it by focusing on good quality proteins and fats as key macronutrients, with most of their carbs added in from fresh (non-starch) seasonal vegetables and the occasional fruit. I&#8217;m fine with a bit of quality chocolate or wine now and then and I definitely encourage regular <a href="http://www.bodyincredible.com/lose-weight-faster-by-cheating-on-your-diet/" target="_blank">treat meals</a>. Other things I&#8217;d include in good nutrition are adequate water, and at least some basic <a href="http://us.cpoliquin.com/?Click=71" target="_blank">supplements</a> like magnesium, a good multi, and so on.</p>
<p>But. In fact make that BUT. Here is why you might not get rid of your stubborn stomach fat despite doing all of that religiously:<strong></strong></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>a. Your treat meal consists of 3 chocolate almonds and some sweet potato.</strong> Don&#8217;t be scared to have a blowout meal now and then! If you are eating super clean and low carb every day you will start to slow <em>down</em> your metabolism over time. You need to give it a shock, or kick-start, with a hefty serve of carbs at least once a week. My favourite treat meal is gluten-free french toast with maple syrup and fried banana. I would have at least 4 slices, and then often 2 more with nutella on them. It&#8217;s a treat meal for heavens sakes. Do it properly if your daily eating habits are really that clean.</p>

<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>b. You&#8217;re too caught up in dogma.</strong> And <a href="http://womanincredible.com/why-your-diet-sucks/" target="_blank">your diet sucks</a>! Forget everything I just said about good nutrition for a moment. Think about what you&#8217;re planning to eat for your next meal. How enticing is it to you, on a scale of 1-10? Unless you&#8217;re in the clutches of a full-blown sugar or junk food addiction then healthy food should be really enticing to you. If you feel uninspired by your food, or that it&#8217;s bland, or that it&#8217;s not digesting well &#8211; change it. My only really unshakeable rule for nutrition is to eat real food; i.e. not processed and full of chemicals or trans fats. <em><strong>Everything</strong></em> else should be tested. By you.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>c. You need a break. </strong>Last week I ate like a vegetarian all day up until dinner. Lots of vegetables, some fruit, and a LOT of fat. Then normal dinner. Why? I could tell I was starting to not digest my protein very well. For several weeks I&#8217;d been truly <em>hating</em> eggs and red meat. Weird? Or is it my body telling me I&#8217;m too mired in my routine? I was craving vegetables like there was no tomorrow. Now I did supplement during my vegetarian meals with BCAAs and <a href="http://womanincredible.com/products-page/nutrition-2/" target="_blank">Glutamine</a>, so I still had adequate protein albeit a lot less than normal. The result? When I did eat my dinner protein I could &#8216;feel&#8217; my metabolism smashing it instantly. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">This is how we should feel with all our meals.</span> I also dropped 2kg of fat (and no muscle) and slept deeper.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Would I keep going with this forever? No! It&#8217;s not the magic answer! Nothing is &#8211; the point is that we need variety.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">As soon as you get caught up in &#8216;having&#8217; to do anything nutritionally or &#8216;not being allowed&#8217; to eat something, you are doomed to at some point stagnate.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">Learn to listen to your body and think about what would truly make you feel good inside and out. This takes some experience and practice, and I don&#8217;t think it works until you&#8217;ve been eating clean for at least a year. Before the 12 month mark I would definitely focus on structure &#8211; i.e. 6 small protein-based meals per day. After that &#8211; to an extent, you make the rules. Just be honest about what&#8217;s working and not working.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">The other thing I love about a more flexible approach is that you avoid becoming obsessive over &#8216;having to&#8217; eat a certain way. For me, I&#8217;ve always been in the best shape and stayed that way when I go with the flow and stop over-thinking everything I&#8217;m going to eat.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><strong>d. You just need more carbs. </strong>Maybe you just need to start including healthy starchy carbs into your diet. Maybe some quinoa porridge for breaky wouldn&#8217;t be the end of the world! (I&#8217;d still have protein with it hehe). Or some starch after training; perhaps even with dinner God forbid. Low carb works for a lot of people, but a lot is not everyone. And again &#8211; your dietary needs change over time. You need to learn to go with the flow. I talk about this (how to know if you need more carbs) in more detail in the <strong><a href="http://womanincredible.com/its-here-the-woman-incredible-look-great-naked-eating-plan/" target="_blank">Look Great Naked Eating Plan</a>.<br />
</strong></p>
<p><strong>2. You are what you eat (part 2). </strong></p>
<p>Okay this one is going to be a lot shorter, but it is actually <em>more</em> important than obsessively worrying about what you should or could be eating. In fact, NOT doing what I&#8217;m about to tell you is one of the top reasons that women aren&#8217;t able to get rid of the last layer or two of fat, especially on the stomach.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s about what you feed your &#8216;whole&#8217; you. You need to detox and nourish each and every one of your bodies daily if you really want to succeed physically, or indeed succeed in any area. Your four bodies are:</p>
<ul>
<li><span style="color: #808080;">The physical you</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #808080;">The emotional you</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #808080;">The mental you</span></li>
<li><span style="color: #808080;">The spiritual you</span></li>
</ul>
<p>I learned this concept from my favourite blogger, <a href="http://www.jamesaltucher.com">James Altucher</a>. I&#8217;d always known that I feel and look better when I am looking after every part of myself both inside and out but I&#8217;d never really thought about it in terms of having a &#8216;daily practice&#8217; for each area until I came across James.</p>
<p>Think about this.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re feeding your mind with junk food (junk TV, the news, useless reading), isn&#8217;t that going to have a carry-on effect on every part of you? It is. You won&#8217;t feel passionate or on purpose, which will result in you feeling more stressed and anxious. Two emotions that elevate cortisol, which increases stomach fat. Furthermore, a mental junk food diet often goes hand in hand with wanting to <em>eat</em> junk food.</p>
<p>How about the way you talk to yourself? Do you build yourself up, or tear yourself down? Whatever you believe about yourself to be true, will be true. So if you&#8217;re feeding your emotions with negativity and self-doubt you will <em>not</em> get the physical results you long for.</p>
<p>And then there&#8217;s spirituality. This doesn&#8217;t have to mean being religious. It could just mean acknowledging that there is more to life than just you and your problems. How often do you take time out to be still and just listen? To meditate or pray?</p>
<p>The &#8216;you&#8217; you see in the mirror is just the reflection of the real you. We all know that it&#8217;s what&#8217;s inside that counts. If you want the outside to look and feel fabulous, you have to feed <em>every part of the inside </em>with good stuff. Please don&#8217;t imagine <span style="text-decoration: underline;">for a second</span> that properly nourishing only the physical you will get you the results you want. The fittest, healthiest and happiest people &#8211; the ones you might look at and want to emulate &#8211; take care of all of this stuff. They know that each of their four bodies affects the others. No, they don&#8217;t have it all together all the time. Yes, they still slip up in each area or skip days.</p>
<p>But they&#8217;re thinking about it; often without even realising it.</p>
<p>You can think about this stuff a lot, get very caught up in it even. I tend to do that <img src='http://womanincredible.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<h3><strong>the top 2 ways to burn belly fat &#8211; cheat notes version <img src='http://womanincredible.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </strong></h3>
<p>But to go back to the original intent of this post, which was to keep it simple (!), here&#8217;s the cheat notes summary of the top two ways to lose belly fat:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>You are what you eat (part 1)</strong>: eat clean, minimally processed food. High protein and fat works often, but not always. Either way, break your normal routine now and then. Do something completely different. Learn to listen to your body. And don&#8217;t forget to have the occasional blowout!</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li><strong>You are what you eat (part 2):</strong> you won&#8217;t get results if you&#8217;re feeding your mind, emotions and spirit junk. Or if you&#8217;re starving them! Failing to take care of the &#8216;whole&#8217; you will result in feelings like dissatisfaction, lack of purpose, fear, anxiety, overwhelm. All of these are not only no fun to live with, but they cause a stress response! Primarily of cortisol, which is the belly fat storing hormone. Take care of every part of you as if it were a small child whom you love deeply. Learn to love and accept and <em>nourish</em> yourself from the inside out, and things you previously found impossible to achieve will start to come to you almost magically.</li>
</ul>

<p>The logical side of you, the &#8216;trying to be healthy&#8217; side of you probably knows that crash-dieting is a sure way to end up further back then where you started. Only problem with that is that when it comes to women and a looming &#8216;must look hot&#8217; date, logic doesn&#8217;t necessarily prevail. Does it?</p>
<p>I know I&#8217;m definitely not the only who has realised I&#8217;m a few belt holes short of looking exactly as I&#8217;d like to look around the midriff before a special night out. So I&#8217;m going to let you in on a little secret. You CAN lose weight fast, and you can do it without compromising your health and without experiencing a crazy yo-yo effect afterwards.</p>

<p>For a good couple of years I&#8217;ve been saying to myself that I&#8217;m going to release a recipe book. A &#8216;big&#8217; one, you know? With tons of truly healthy but delicious food ideas, gorgeous pictures, helpful tips, and maybe even a shopping list app to go with it. The kind of cookbook that busy and healthy-minded women like yourself would be able to turn to for everything from everyday lunch inspiration, to great snack ideas for their kids, and even to preparing a fabulous dinner party.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s going to be fantastic; a kitchen must-have. And you&#8217;re going to love it. Want to share it with all your friends. Send me flowers and chocolates for putting together such a drool-worthy thing.</p>
<p>Only problem is &#8230; although I do write a lot of recipes (such as in my <strong><em></em></strong><a href="http://womanincredible.com/its-here-the-woman-incredible-look-great-naked-eating-plan/" target="_blank">eating plan</a>, which teaches you exactly how to eat right and stop struggling to get the body you want) &#8230; the &#8216;full on cookbook&#8217; thing is kind of still in the works. It&#8217;s definitely on the list. Okay, it&#8217;s kind of down the bottom of the list, to be honest. After my website makeover (yay!), my new 8-week online transformation course, the launch of my new free magazine, and well a bunch of other stuff I like to do like hanging out with my family, eating, sleeping and training.</p>
<p>I have a theory about this procrastination of mine.</p>
<p>When I put something off for weeks, months, years, it does not mean I&#8217;m lazy or undisciplined. It means that deep down I don&#8217;t really want to do it. (Try this theory in your own life, it&#8217;s a great way to surrender). So, truth be told, although I am totally jealous that <a href="http://www.sarahwilson.com.au/i-quit-sugar-cookbook/?cl=110050&amp;c=ib&amp;aff=13521" target="_blank">Sarah seems to have read my mind about what the perfect cookbook would include and released it</a> before I&#8217;ve managed to draft the introduction, I&#8217;m also relieved.</p>
<p>Sarah has gone and done <em>everything</em> I would have done to create an awesomely helpful cooking and food prep guide, she&#8217;s managed to come up with a whole bunch of cool extra ideas that I never even would have thought it, and to top it all off her food photography is enough to make you want to eat the page. <p>I was kind of sold as soon as I saw &#8216;raspberry tart&#8217; and &#8216;crunchy-nut cheesecake&#8217;. I&#8217;m a sucker for a good dessert idea. Here are some other things I think are really great about Sarah&#8217;s &#8216;I Quit Sugar&#8217; cookbook:</p>
<ul>
<li><span style="color: #888888;"><em>The recipes are not too fancy, even though they often look it when they&#8217;re done. They&#8217;re easy to pull together, and don&#8217;t even require exact measurement</em></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #888888;"><em>There is an in-built shopping list maker! In- built! So you can automatically add ingredients to your list as you go through the book deciding what you&#8217;d like to cook, and then it tallies it up for you on Sarah&#8217;s website and spits out a list. This is so cool. Exhibit A of things I would not have thought of in my own cookbook.</em></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #888888;"><em>The introduction covers the basic foods and tools you&#8217;ll want to keep in your kitchen. Very handy.</em></span></li>
<li><span style="color: #888888;"><em>There are loads of links to resources, places to shop online for quality foods, and other cooking ideas</em></span></li>

<p>The only thing I would have loved to see in this cookbook is an even bigger section on desserts. I know, I know, there are 2 full sections just covering sweet stuff and sweet treats so I really don&#8217;t have a leg to stand on but as I said earlier &#8211; I&#8217;m a sucker for desserts and clean eating treats. I did skip straight to that section when I first read the book. Sarah &#8211; how about an &#8216;I Quit Sugar Dessert Book&#8217; next time?</p>
<p>Hmmm &#8230; should I add that to <em>my</em> list?</p>

<p>We&#8217;re all on this quest to live a perfect life, and we even go so far as to write about our ideal perfect life and how that might go.</p>
<p>We say -</p>
<p>When my life is ideal I will have:</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>The House</em><br />
<em>The Car</em><br />
<em>The Wardrobe</em><br />
<em>The First-class Travel</em><br />
<em>The First-class Travel Experiences</em><br />
<em>The Stunning Kitchen</em><br />
<em>The Big Bank Account</em><br />
<em>The Portfolio or Investments</em><br />
<em>The Right Associations, or Schools for the Perfect Kids</em><br />
<em>The Cool Toys</em></p>
<p>And all the other Stuff I&#8217;ve yet to think of. Oh, and of course The Body.</p>
<p>So let&#8217;s say you get all of that, and more. Let&#8217;s say you write out a plan for your perfect life, and you even work out down to the $ how much money you would need to make each year in order to achieve that perfect life.</p>
<p>I did this, many time. The most recent occasion was early last month and it was around $326,000 per year I think, that I needed to make to live my &#8216;dream&#8217; life. Who knew &#8211; all these people both expert and everyday are looking for happiness, there&#8217;s even entire research projects about it, people do their thesis&#8217; on it, and yet little old me had the answer all along.</p>
<p>Happiness, it seems, can be bought for $326,000 per year. In the scheme of things, it&#8217;s really not that much is it? I don&#8217;t mean it&#8217;s easy &#8211; but it&#8217;s not a bad price for something people often spend their entire life searching for.</p>
<p>The funny thing is, I&#8217;ve done the &#8216;perfect life&#8217; and the &#8216;perfect day&#8217; exercise many times over the years. I&#8217;ve written about it before; mentored other people &#8211; possibly even you &#8211; about the power of doing this exercise. And yet &#8211; even though some of my <a href="http://womanincredible.com/perfect-life-exercise/" target="_blank">earlier perfect life visualisations</a> have in fact now come true (although I have changed my mind about point #1, I find I don&#8217;t really care anymore!), I still seem to be reaching for something else.</p>
<p>Do you ever feel that way, even once you do achieve goals you once thought were only a dream?</p>
<p>And if so, doesn&#8217;t that tell you something? It sure tells me something, although I have to admit it only just hit me today. Today, I sat down to write my little list of Things To Achieve and I realised I am SO sick and tired of having a checklist of Things That Must Be Done, Purchased Or Completed in order to feel good about myself; in order to live my perfect life.</p>
<p>So without really thinking about it, I wrote a different sort of list -</p>
<p>A different sort of list for today.<span id="more-5360"></span><br />
<em></em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>Today I want to &#8230; live in the moment. Move my business forward. Move my faith forward. Be a great mother. Live the life I want to live &#8216;one day&#8217; but do it now. Laugh and experience joy. Learn something new. Help someone. Be kind. Show love. Use my physical, emotional, mental and spiritual self.</em></p>
<p>I look at this little list now and I think that if I lived that way every day I would probably also Achieve and Have some pretty amazing things along the way. But I also think that if I found those emotions and behaviours daily I would probably care less. Possibly I&#8217;d find my perfect life is really only a choice or two away anyway.</p>

<h3><strong>what is success? the reality.</strong></h3>
<p>Of course you might wonder about the fact that I admit to having achieved earlier versions of my perfect life, versions I&#8217;d previously only dreamed about (and written down). Therefore, you might think, it&#8217;s definitely still an exercise worth doing.</p>
<p>And I think that&#8217;s true. Possibly it depends how much important each of us start to place on the material stuff. I definitely don&#8217;t mean it&#8217;s wrong to want material stuff, or even great wealth. I believe we are all designed to be abundant and to use that abundance for the good of our own lives as well as for others.</p>
<p>But I think it&#8217;s easy to do these little perfect life or perfect day exercises and forget to include the emotions, the &#8216;true&#8217; essence of who we want to be. If I look back at what I&#8217;ve written in my own journalings on this, I have often included elements of the way I want to feel, the person I want to be, but it&#8217;s almost automatic to put the focus on the Stuff when you do a perfect life exercise.</p>
<p>Isn&#8217;t that what it&#8217;s all about, you wonder? Getting to a point where you can <em>afford</em> to have, be or do anything you choose?</p>
<p>Perhaps you can already afford more perfection and success than most people would ever dream of, if only you&#8217;d be willing to re-consider your definitions.</p>

<h3><strong>success and you</strong></h3>
<p>Tell me. How much would you pay -</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>To feel joy every day?</em><br />
<em>To feel truly engaged with your partner and/or your kids or friends?</em><br />
<em>To be confident that you&#8217;re living with passion and purpose</em><br />
<em>To be able to live in the moment and stop worrying all the time?!</em><br />
<em>To be at peace with who you are?</em><br />
<em>To feel spiritually whole, and safe?</em></p>
<p>I&#8217;m going to say that if I did have endless funds available to me I&#8217;d pay a heck of a lot more than $326,000 per year to feel certain I&#8217;d have all of the above. It sounds like a pretty darn-good perfect life to me. Possibly I&#8217;d take it with or without The Dream Stuff; the stuff that once gained just causes us all to want MORE, to feel that our lives (and we ourselves) are still not good enough.</p>
<p>Of course I&#8217;d love to fulfil both lists. And I suspect that the more I focus on this new approach the less I might feel the need to add more &#8216;must haves&#8217; to the old list.</p>
<p>At the moment, I feel almost as though I&#8217;m having an epipheny about the <a href="http://womanincredible.com/17tips-on-getting-things-done/" target="_blank">military-like precision with which I run my life</a>. I say to other people over and over again that &#8216;the list&#8217; (their list, my list, anyone&#8217;s list) will never be complete, that each of us will <em>die</em> with the list still not done, and that we simply must accept that. Now I&#8217;m wondering, why not just change the list?</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve lived according to lists of tasks for as long as I can remember. And I do get ahead, sure, but at the same time I&#8217;m always feeling as though there&#8217;s so much more to be done. As though it&#8217;s not enough. I&#8217;m not enough.</p>
<p>And that the perfect life is (still) just out of sight.</p>
<p>Well, I&#8217;m sick of it being just out of sight. Of knowing that when I reach it my idea of it will have changed and so it will still be out of my grasp.</p>
<p>It might just be time to change the rules about what would make a perfect life, and to realise in fact that &#8216;it&#8217; can be now.</p>

<p>Are you failing to reach your ideal body shape and perhaps even your big dreams in life because deep down you believe you&#8217;re not worthy?</p>
<p>Hold that thought for just a moment while I tell you something -</p>
<p>The truth is that there is practically nothing you can&#8217;t do. If you think about it, for most every huge and audacious life goal you can come up with you could also find a story of someone who has achieved that same goal. Couldn&#8217;t you? <em>And</em> they&#8217;ve done it from odds just the same or perhaps even worse than what you believe yours are.</p>
<p>Clearly it is possible to lose 50+ kilos. Or even to lose the last 5kg; yes even after years of hoping or saying you would.  Clearly it is not unthinkable that you <em>could</em> get yourself out of tremendous debt (if that&#8217;s an issue for you). It&#8217;s within your reach to actually go ahead and create a dream life and lifestyle for yourself and your loved ones.</p>
<p><em>People are doing it every day. </em>Others are traveling the world and having amazing experiences despite being on a budget or perhaps with incredible financial freedom that they&#8217;ve created themselves. There are those who might create a dream business out of nothing but their passion and a few spare hours a week; hours that they drag away from TV or just from sitting around wondering what if.</p>
<p>Every day people quit their jobs, or embark on a scary and challenging new goal, say no to the junk food or simply say yes to living life now. To pressing play.</p>
<p>So why can you not do exactly the same? Why do you seem to be fighting the same battles &#8211; in one way or another &#8211; year in and year out?</p>
<p>If you think about it, the only thing stopping you from being someone with a really incredible story is you. You, and that little voice inside your head.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a voice I&#8217;ve been all too familiar with in my own head (well, I&#8217;m familiar with my voice not yours <img src='http://womanincredible.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' /> ). I don&#8217;t know about you, but I&#8217;m still a little more familiar with my voice than what I&#8217;d like.</p>
<p>The voice says -<br />
<em></em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>&#8220;You&#8217;re not enough.&#8221;</em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>&#8220;Not good enough, not smart enough, not attractive enough.&#8221; </em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>&#8220;You definitely don&#8217;t know enough.&#8221; </em></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>&#8220;And you certainly don&#8217;t have enough time.&#8221;</em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;And even if all that weren&#8217;t true, you haven&#8217;t put in the hard yards, at least not consistently enough. You haven&#8217;t truly endured the sort of sacrifices that would need to be made in order to truly transform yourself. You still eat chocolate in bed for heavens sakes!&#8221;</em></p>
<p>The voice whispers to you, it questions your sometimes bouts of confidence or your bright ideas, and it convinces you to believe that nothing makes you special. You believe it when it asks you who you are to think you can live an extraordinary life.<br />
<strong></strong></p>
<h3><strong>you CAN achieve your dream body shape, or your dream anything</strong></h3>
<p>We all have the ability to be extra extraordinary.</p>
<p>And I believe <span style="text-decoration: underline;">you</span> are exceptional. Your unique outlook on life makes you capable of things that nobody else will ever be able to even consider doing in just the same way. You have the power &#8211; right this very moment &#8211; to stamp your foot and say enough is enough. That you&#8217;re sick of waiting until you have the knowledge, the confidence, the money or the time. That you are ready to press play now and live your dream life.</p>
<p>Despite the fact that you have no idea how you&#8217;re going to quit your food addictions, or your TV addiction, or simply your addiction to doubting yourself every step of the way. You can decide that despite not yet being perfect you&#8217;re going to just put one foot in front of the other and move a little closer to your goals, to reaching that ideal body shape (or perhaps starting with loving the you that you are right now) and even to one day living your dream life. That you are no longer willing to wait until you&#8217;ve checked all the boxes of being a super-duper successful person. That such person, in fact, does not exist at all.</p>
<p>And that the dream life could be there for you any time you choose to embrace it.</p>
<h3><strong>stop thinking it&#8217;s easier for other people</strong></h3>
<p>You think that all those fitness models or super yummy mummies out there don&#8217;t doubt themselves? That they don&#8217;t struggle with emotional eating or nutrition overwhelm? You think that successful small business owners aren&#8217;t privately tearing their hair out with the fear that it might all slip away, that they might lose control or that the sales might stop? You think that the woman with the dream house or hot car doesn&#8217;t secretly worry what others think of her? That the person with the awesome new promotion or relationship doesn&#8217;t get scared they&#8217;re going to have their bluff called?</p>
<p>Of course they do.</p>
<p>They have fears and doubts and insecurities just the same as you and I. The ONLY difference between &#8216;us&#8217; and them is that they, despite all of their natural human worries, are putting one foot in front of the other. Quite simply, they have committed to giving it a shot and then they&#8217;ve actually done it.</p>
<p>So when will it be your turn? When will it be your time?</p>
<p>The answer is whenever you want.</p>
<p>If you are you failing to reach your ideal body shape and perhaps even your big dreams in life because deep down you believe you&#8217;re not worthy or that you have to wait until you deserve it you will never get &#8216;there&#8217;. It&#8217;s simply not possible, because the place you are looking for <em>isn&#8217;t</em> &#8216;there&#8217;. It&#8217;s here. It&#8217;s right now.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s you, making up your mind that you <em>can</em> be, do or have anything you set your mind to. It&#8217;s a choice; well &#8211; a myriad of big and small choices.</p>

<div>Now, before you get in a huff at my impertinence let me explain.</div>

<div>I don&#8217;t mean I&#8217;m sick of women <em>telling</em> me about it, I mean I&#8217;m sick of the <strong>reality</strong>. Which is that most nutritional advice out there is completely unrealistic, or overwhelming, or would require the self discipline of a Tibetan monk (not sure why Tibetan in particular).</div>

<p></p>
<div>I know this because I&#8217;ve <em>done</em> the diets and the clean eating bootcamps many times over. I&#8217;ve done them and I battled through and sometimes I felt great and other times I&#8217;ve failed. So overall you could say I failed because the <em>ultimate</em> outcome was always to not just look a certain way but to feel great. For good, not just for a day or a photo shoot or a comp, although that&#8217;s cool as well. And feeling great (to me) means eating in a way that I see as sustainable, enjoyable, fun <span style="text-decoration: underline;">and</span> results based. Yup, the &#8216;perfect&#8217; diet for me has to have all of those things. One or even 3 just ain&#8217;t gonna cut it.</div>

<p></p>
<div>So do you know what? If we&#8217;re talking about following a &#8216;diet&#8217; diet, I&#8217;m okay with failing. Do you see me wanting to never again indulge in my chocolate addiction? I think not. At least these days I manage not to quite <a href="http://womanincredible.com/how-to-not-eat-a-whole-block-of-chocolate/" target="_blank">eat a whole block of chocolate</a> <img src='http://womanincredible.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </div>

<div>But this is what really annoys me about it all.</div>

<div>It&#8217;s not what your diet says you should or shouldn&#8217;t eat, although that may be an issue. It&#8217;s the fact that every diet you go on conditions you to think there is an <em>end</em> point. You think &#8220;if I can just get through this day, week, 2 weeks, month, if I can just lose x amount or look great for this big event &#8230;&#8221;</div>

<p></p>
<div>Well.</div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div>If you can just do that, then what? You could keep eating so virtuously but really deep down you have absolutely no intention of completely and forever giving up your favourite indulgences. Do you? And if you do then you really are a one in one thousand robot. Ad there are such people, maybe one or two of them reading this blog, but probably not you. And I&#8217;ll admit it, most definitely not me!</div>
<p></p>
<h3><strong>your &#8216;healthy&#8217; diet sucks big time!</strong></h3>
<div>So this is why your diet &#8211; no matter how clean or back to basics or pales it may be &#8211; sucks.</div>
<p></p>
<div></div>
<div>It sucks because it tells you to eliminate. To sacrifice. It tells you that you can&#8217;t, that you shouldn&#8217;t, that you are bad, that you have poor willpower. It tries to trick you into thinking that if you could just be stronger of mind or more organised than you&#8217;d enter dietary nirvana, a place where you&#8217;re happy to eat the same food day in and day out and will always and forever be able to turn your nose up at the food everyone around you is eating.</div>

<p></p>
<div>I mean seriously &#8211; is that something you think is EVER going to happen 100%? And do you even <em>want</em> it to?</div>

<div>It assumes you are not unique, that one size fits all, and I&#8217;m even talking about everything I write on nutrition. I rarely lay down rigid diet rules and <a href="http://womanincredible.com/its-here-the-woman-incredible-look-great-naked-eating-plan/" target="_blank">I teach you how to listen in to your body and what works for you</a> but you are still the one who has to do the work and learn from experiences. What&#8217;s more, your diet teaches you that rules are finite. It fails to address your changing needs over time and that what worked for you before may not work now.</div>
<p><em><strong>Your diet sucks because you can&#8217;t stick to it.</strong></em></p>
<p>You discipline yourself for a meal, a day, a week maybe even months.</p>
<p>But eventually you crack, whether it&#8217;s the after dinner <a href="https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?ii=996725&amp;c=ib&amp;aff=13521&amp;cl=110050" target="_blank">sugar cravings</a> or the 6 week slump. Sooner or later you give in. And you feel like you&#8217;ve failed. You are voluntarily engaging in something that makes you feel bad about yourself! Are you crazy? Don&#8217;t worry, me too <img src='http://womanincredible.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<div><em><strong>Your diet sucks because it is confusing.</strong></em></div>

<div>It tells you things based on rules not based on your body, your background, your issues with food, your current stress and lifestyle. It adds <em>more</em> overwhelm with its lists of shoulds and musts and it fails to help you see how it can become a way of life. So it just brings you back to the issue of failure and only being something to do until x event or date or kilos lost.</div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div><em><strong>Your diet sucks because the person telling you to do it has their own issues and story.</strong></em></div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div>And that has at least partially influenced what they&#8217;re telling you to do. Are you them? No. So why assume that what works for them works for you? You can listen to their ideas and get some kickstart structure from them (perhaps from me!) but you still have to trial it. Nobody&#8217;s word is God.</div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div><em><strong>Your diet sucks because it is boring, because it is unchanging and because it makes you scared.</strong></em></div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div>You&#8217;re scared of missing a meal or maybe of having one, you&#8217;re scared of running out of your supplements for two days or of accidentally eating 5 extra grams of carbs or of misjudging your cheat days or just of choosing the wrong diet! Which brings me to this -</div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div><em><strong>Your diet sucks because you chose it by gambling.</strong></em></div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div>Yes maybe you gambled on referrals and great testimonials and even on some practice of your own with an ounce of knowledge thrown in, but it&#8217;s still a gamble. You&#8217;re still hoping that it&#8217;s going to work; you&#8217;re putting your faith in rules rather than in your own ability to test and measure.</div>
<h3><strong>so what do you do? how to create a truly healthy diet plan?</strong></h3>
<div>This is what you do.</div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div>You try your very very hardest not to end up too far down the rabbit hole. You listen to your body. Maybe you use a food journal to do this, but you don&#8217;t freak out if you forget to do it for a day.</div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div>You acknowledge that your needs can change meal to meal let alone week to week or month to month. You eat whole foods but if you really and truly are longing for some junk then you have it. If it makes you feel like rubbish then you don&#8217;t have it again. Simple.</div>
<p></p>
<div></div>
<div>Perhaps you do follow a structure just to get yourself started, something simple and practical that works, like the <a href="http://womanincredible.com/its-here-the-woman-incredible-look-great-naked-eating-plan/" target="_blank">Woman Incredible Look Great Naked Eating Plan</a>, but you don&#8217;t let fear convince you that such structure is the way it must be forever and ever.</div>

<div>You do NOT obsessively weight things or count calories. You don&#8217;t eat something just because you &#8216;should&#8217;. You avoid fear at all costs! You vary things, do the complete opposite now and then. You get rid of guilt. How? Simply by choosing not to play with it.</div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div>If you eat a meal out or have a treat you just eat it and enjoy it, you don&#8217;t über analyse it.</div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div>What else?</div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div>You don&#8217;t push your diet on other people, unless they ask and even then you are gentle about it because they are not you. And only you can learn over time what works for you, and you can use mentors and health experts such as myself for ideas and support and some basic structure to kick you off it at the end of the day like a little duckling you have to swim away on your own and be free.</div>
<p></p>
<h3><strong>i&#8217;ve had enough of crappy diets making women doubt themselves</strong></h3>
<div>I am so sick and third of women telling me guiltily, shamefully of how they&#8217;ve failed.</div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div>Of how they have no willpower, no discipline.</div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div>I am so sick of thinking of all the time I&#8217;ve lost going through these same thoughts myself. I am so sick of the fear that surrounds nutrition, the panic that ensues at the idea of eating carbs or fruit, even though yes I generally don&#8217;t advocate eating a lot of those things and I think that if you have an issue with not being able to stop then you do need some structure to break the sugar addiction, but I think that even that is still just the beginning.</div>
<div></div>
<p></p>
<div>Sooner or later you haven to be willing to step off the ledge, to eat the bloody banana and trust that the world will not end, to enjoy a massive serve of whatever the heck you like on occasion. To find your own sweet spot where you eat what you&#8217;ve learned makes you feel good and you do it out of enjoyment of those foods not out of fear of what you should or should not be doing.</div>

<p>So swim away. Spread your wings. Jump off the ledge. And if you want a piece of fruit that badly eat the damn thing.</p>

<p>You want to be leaner, hotter, happier and healthier right? You want to look sexy, feel confident, and most of all finally fit properly into those skinny jeans? Duh, right &#8211; who doesn&#8217;t?</p>
<p>Of course you want all of that to happen NOW (if not sooner!) and you&#8217;re prepared to do the hard yards. You just know that once you get there you&#8217;ll feel more confident and happy in other areas of your life.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ll be able to relax more. Enjoy yourself. Heck you&#8217;ll probably even be more successful in business. Everything will come together. Everything that you&#8217;ve dreamed of, hinging on those pesky extra kilos or still-wobbly bits.</p>
<p>And you <em>will</em> get there. You&#8217;re determined. Resourceful. Driven. You are, in fact, Woman Incredible. Just look at all of the stuff you do; the way you juggle. SJP in the movie &#8220;<em>I Don&#8217;t Know How She Does It</em>&#8221; has nothing on you.</p>
<p>Except.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ve been trying for a long time now. Working your butt off, eating cleaner than you can ever remember, avoiding toxins, choosing organic foods, taking the odd moment to be grateful, working on your sleep quality and on stress management.</p>
<p>You&#8217;re a virtual paragon of health and wellness. A &#8216;by the book&#8217; success. (Assuming it&#8217;s a paleo kind of book of course <img src='http://womanincredible.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';)' class='wp-smiley' /> )</p>
<p>So WHY is it still so hard? Why is it still not QUITE working the way you think it should be by now?</p>
<p>I have a theory, and it&#8217;s all about what I always say at the end of my posts -</p>

I&#8217;ve been using this tagline for 5 years or so now, and it&#8217;s still as powerful to me as it was back then.</p>
<p>Because here&#8217;s the point. It is really <em>really</em> tough to ever achieve any goal if you have trained your mind to always think about what&#8217;s still missing, what you &#8216;should&#8217; be doing next, what you still have to change.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s admirable to plan ahead, but if your inner mantra about your body includes words like &#8216;if only&#8217;, &#8216;if I just&#8217;, &#8216;I still need to&#8217;, &#8216;when I finally&#8217; &#8230; well, you&#8217;re screwed. Just a little bit. And likely &#8211; you&#8217;ll never get &#8216;there&#8217;. Why? Two reasons -</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span style="color: #888888;">1. Every day, all day, that little voice in your head is telling you that your dream body exists somewhere in the <strong>future</strong>. So <span style="text-decoration: underline;">when</span> exactly is this future arriving? Have you set a date? Or is it always going to be just that &#8211; the future?</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span style="color: #888888;">2. You&#8217;re so busy worrying about when you&#8217;ll finally get everything working for you, that you&#8217;re incapable of tuning in to your body&#8217;s present needs. The problem with this is that <a href="http://womanincredible.com/its-here-the-woman-incredible-look-great-naked-eating-plan/" target="_blank">good nutrition</a>, a happy and healthy lifestyle, and even what sort of exercise to do to get a really <em>really</em> fit body depends on you figuring out what works best. You can learn ideas from me or anybody else until the cows come home, but we&#8217;re all different. <h3><strong>5 Ways Pressing Play And Living NOW Can Get You A REALLY Fit Body</strong></h3>
<p><strong></strong>We agree that life is now, yes? And that we want to &#8216;press play&#8217; on our dreams immediately? So. You have to apply this technique to everything, and it&#8217;s particularly relevant to how successful you&#8217;ll be at finally getting the body you want.</p>
<p>Let me explain -</p>
<p><strong>1. Know what to eat. </strong></p>
<p>You don&#8217;t need a masters in nutrition to get a smokin&#8217; body. Once you have a good understanding of <a href="http://womanincredible.com/coconut-water-recipe/" target="_blank">which foods to eat and how to put them together</a>, it&#8217;s down to you to LISTEN. When you focus on the now, you get to learn what works for your body. You start noticing when you just &#8216;know&#8217; you need more protein. Or fats. Maybe even more carbs! When you get to this point you don&#8217;t eat just because you think you should, and you don&#8217;t eat just <em>what</em> you should. The truth is you have your own personalised nutrition blueprint inside your head, and it&#8217;s more specific than what you could ever pay anyone for. And it <em>changes</em> over time.</p>
<p><span id="more-5202"></span>If you&#8217;re not listening because you&#8217;re constantly worrying about what you&#8217;re not doing right, then you&#8217;re basically just gambling that following the latest nutrition rules will work for you on a personal and lasting level.</p>

<p><strong>2. Properly prioritise</strong></p>
<p>You&#8217;re torn between pushing to fit in that extra training or spending time on your business/career/with your kids. You deviate between thinking you should stay up late preparing healthy food or spending some time just relaxing or maybe even sleeping.</p>
<p>The more I prioritise things that I think will get me in &#8216;amazing&#8217; shape the more I find myself falling down a slippery slope of forgetting <em>why</em> <a href="http://womanincredible.com/why-do-you-want-to-look-good/" target="_blank">looking a certain way</a> really matters to me. I&#8217;ve had many instances where I&#8217;ve found myself putting other areas of my life aside in order to fit in extra training, or foregoing social events as I&#8217;m worried about what I&#8217;ll be served.</p>
<p>Truly, I don&#8217;t think we can have it all (depending on what &#8216;all&#8217; means to you) &#8211; but I also don&#8217;t think that making our entirely lives revolve around being clean and fit is a smart idea. My utmost priorities have to do with using my talents (purpose), building quality relationships and memories, and giving value. I want to look good because I <em>feel</em> good when I&#8217;m in shape and healthy. I don&#8217;t feel good when day after day I&#8217;m leaving a cluttered home or business behind in order to stay on top of going to the gym or organic store. So I compromise. Gym sometimes, <a href="http://www.womanincredible.com/online-training-and-nutrition/" target="_blank">at home training</a> other times. Batch cooking food but also knowing when it&#8217;s fine just to get take out and have a fun and relaxed night with my family.</p>
<p>What really matters to you when all is said and done? Is it checking off your weekly workout plan and eating perfectly, or is it enjoying life and living on purpose? And how can you incorporate all of those things. &#8216;Pressing play&#8217; is about living your dream life now, which means living according to your ideal or values now, rather than putting it off for when you have time.</p>
<p>And if it can help keep you in better shape as well? Well then it&#8217;s certainly worth thinking about.<br />
<strong></strong></p>
<p><strong>3. Sleep better</strong><br />
<strong></strong></p>
<p>In Charles Poliquin&#8217;s <a href="http://womanincredible.com/switching-into-yin-gear/" target="_blank">most recent post</a> for Woman Incredible he wrote that &#8220;<em>sleep is the most under rated element in achieving optimal body composition. Just four days of disrupted sleep will raise your morning blood glucose dramatically</em>&#8220;.</p>
<p>I think we all hear this sort of thing (be it sleep, stress management, time for play etc) and we believe it in theory &#8230; but there is this constant fear to do with not doing &#8216;enough&#8217; exercise or not eating just that little bit better, or even just not staying on top of house and computer work and those things seem to win out.</p>
<p>If I let myself sleep in or have an afternoon nap even though I feel good about it I also feel a little bit &#8211; naughty. Like I&#8217;ve been bunking off. And certainly I&#8217;d be less inclined to go around telling people how I spent an hour napping than telling them how I spent the whole day blogging or otherwise working/being &#8216;productive&#8217;.</p>

<p>But wouldn&#8217;t you say that in general it is easier to achieve things (it comes more naturally) when you feel relaxed and motivated? This morning I actually did let myself sleep in until 11 past 9 (precisely!) and it was the first time this month I haven&#8217;t set the alarm for 5.30am. It&#8217;s now nearly 1pm and I&#8217;m only just starting to &#8216;do&#8217; anything.</p>
<p>But my motivation is really high, I feel refreshed, I had a great morning with Alyssa and I have absolute none of my usual &#8216;tired so need coffee/chocolate/comfort) feelings. I also feel happier. All of these things compound over time. Just imagine a life where you mostly always felt refreshed, motivated and raring to go. Would you eat better and find it easier? Would your training be more effective? Would you have less feelings of stress and therefore further manipulate your hormones toward fat loss?</p>
<p>Or would it just be incredibly scary to think of losing control or losing time? The science on hormones says that getting enough sleep keeps us leaner, easier. I say it helps you feel happier and enjoy life more. And that&#8217;s a combo worth at least testing.</p>
<p><strong>4. Avoid emotional eating</strong></p>
<p><strong></strong>The points I&#8217;m making here are designed to all build on each other.</p>
<p>When you press play on life every single day you make better food choices, you&#8217;re able to relax and enjoy life more (and therefore sleep and feel better), and you naturally find yourself prioritising the stuff that &#8216;actually&#8217; matters to you.</p>
<p>All of this has a domino like effect on the usual stress relief triggers you may turn to.</p>
<p>For me my stress relief go-to over the years has long been food. For many years I had a full-blown eating disorder which came about from so-called &#8216;emotional&#8217; binge eating. But even now, I have to admit that when I feel really stressed or overwhelmed I want to turn to food. Binge eating is more common than you might think, and that&#8217;s because it allows us to &#8216;stuff down&#8217; the stress; to escape at least for that short period of time.</p>

<p>Logically, when you build habits of eating better, living on purpose and doing things that matter to you, you are less inclined to seek that stress-relief escape. But here&#8217;s the thing. Many very driven women who <em>are</em> living &#8216;on purpose&#8217; and love their lives are also stretched to the max. They are <em>way</em> over scheduled, and have a habit of being unrealistic about how much they can humanly achieve in one day.</p>
<p>Sound familiar?</p>
<p>I know that even as I&#8217;m writing this I&#8217;m laughing at myself, as it seems that no matter how much I &#8216;self-develop&#8217; my one weakness is to over commit myself. And then get into a massive panic when I don&#8217;t keep up with my own expectations.</p>
<p>What I&#8217;m trying really hard to do (and would like to think I&#8217;m getting better at!) is to remind myself of the &#8216;why&#8217; of each thing I do. And realise that a lot of that stuff really is about feeling I need to keep up.</p>
<p>When I let go of the shoulds and musts, what I really want is a happier and more connected life.</p>
<p>And <span style="text-decoration: underline;">that</span> is something I&#8217;m capable of right now, simply by letting go of the need to immediately and perfectly implement every idea I ever think of.</p>
<p>So this point has been very round a bout, but I think you get where I&#8217;m coming from.</p>
<p>Let go. Delete some stuff from your list and your life. Trust in yourself to do what <em>really</em> needs to be done, which is the stuff that ties in to who you want to be as a happy and purposeful woman. And that can start right now, today. Less stuff = less stress = less trigger for urgently needing to unwind = at least a good dozen less packets of Tim Tam sales over the year <img src='http://womanincredible.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /><br />
<strong></strong></p>
<p><strong>5. Feel happier, calmer, in control</strong></p>
<p>It all comes together, doesn&#8217;t it? When you think every day &#8211; even every moment &#8211; about how you can press play right <em>now</em> then you naturally feel happier and more at peace. You realise that the ultimate control is letting go of control; acknowledging that you <em>have</em> no control over most things but that you do have the power to live every day as if it were the last one that truly mattered.</p>
<p>When you make a decision to stop worrying about keeping up, impressing others or even caring what they think then yes you might be judged or perhaps even flounder around being &#8216;unproductive&#8217; for a period of time but that it doesn&#8217;t matter. That the only thing that matters is that you&#8217;re true to you.</p>
<p>Which might mean being a gym maniac one week and then barely leaving your house the next. It <em>might</em> mean anally counting calories or protein grams, learning every little thing about nutrition and hormones, or it might mean just <a href="http://womanincredible.com/30-day-challenge/" target="_blank">making one small change</a> every week or every month. Trusting in the process and also in the fact that letting go of stress and enjoying your life more can in fact give you a hormonal advantage when it comes to getting a really fit body.</p>

<p>Coconut water is certainly one of the latest health fads, especially if you like to sweat it out at the local gym or yoga studio like I do! But food/hydration trends aside, what us girls all <em>really</em> want to know is whether it&#8217;s okay to drink coconut water if you&#8217;re trying to get leaner. Am I right?</p>
<p>And the answer &#8211; I say &#8211; is a resounding yes!</p>
<p>Both Elle McPherson and Miranda Kerr have been regularly quoted as being coconut water fans (Miranda says she drinks it daily, at least 250ml), and both those ladies are undeniably gorgeous <em>and</em> healthy.</p>
<p>Of course I <em>have</em> put more thought into it than simply following hot Aussie supermodels though <img src='http://womanincredible.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>If you look at the nutritional breakdown of coconut water you&#8217;ll see that it is chock full of important minerals and electrolytes &#8211; including potassium and sodium, essential for post (sweaty) workout recovery. Even Charles Poliquin is a coconut water fan, saying this -</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><em>&#8220;Coconut water is naturally found inside young coconuts, and it contains a wide variety of minerals, vitamins, carbohydrates, amino acids, and enzymes. Coconut water also provides a nice dose of vitamin C, magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, arginine, alanine, lysine, glutamic acid, and other micronutrients and enzymes that are anti-inflammatory. In 100 grams of coconut water, there are about 5 grams of carbs of which half is glucose and half is fructose.&#8221;</em></p>
<h3><strong>sugar/carbs in coconut water</strong></h3>
<p>When coconut water was first popularised I wasn&#8217;t such a fan. This was because everytime I read the label on the stuff it seemed to have up to and even over 30% sugar &#8211; which packs in at a whopping 75 or so grams for a 250ml serve! My theory is that the manufacturers initially assumed nobody would buy it without a ton of extra sugar added <img src='http://womanincredible.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>These days, most bottled coconut water is the pure stuff. It&#8217;s still smart to read the label of course.</p>
<p>But 100ml of <em>pure</em> coconut water contains typically between just 5 and 6 grams of sugar, 1/3 of which is from fiber. The sugar in coconut water is half fructose and half glucose. We know that fructose is sugar which cannot readily be metabolised, and is therefore quite easily stored as fat. But we&#8217;re talking mere specks of the stuff here, and with so many wonderful nutrition benefits in return.</p>
<h3><strong>kat&#8217;s favourite coconut water recipe</strong> <strong>- the green smoothie!</strong></h3>
<p><span id="more-5078"></span>My favourite way to use coconut water is as a base for making a green smoothie. I tend to make about 1.5 litres at a time, as it keeps easy for a few days and I also use it to make green smoothie icy poles, which Alyssa loves. (Okay, me too <img src='http://womanincredible.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> )</p>

<p>The above green smoothie is such a simple recipe &#8211; I included half a bunch of kale, 3 stalks celery, 2 cucumbers, 250ml coconut water, fresh squeezed lemon and lime, and tumeric (excellent detoxifier!)</p>
<p>Anyway, the thing I soon realised after introducing green smoothies as part of my fat loss nutritional regime is that I don&#8217;t really <em>like</em> using bottled coconut water. I wanted to use the real thing! (The &#8216;meat&#8217; is soooo yummy). Unfortunately my early attempts at this were thwarted by the fact that I&#8217;m a bit of a girl about smashing things with a knife.</p>
<p>So much so that I failed miserably and ended up with 3 half hacked coconuts sitting lonesomely in my fridge for a week before I admitted defeat and brought in some manly assistance.</p>
<p>And I figured, I&#8217;ll bet I&#8217;m not the only one who has trouble &#8211; or perhaps hasn&#8217;t even dared &#8211; getting one of these hard little nuts open.
