Much like your favorite pair of jeans, it depends on your body type and what you plan on tackling in your jeans, i.e. dancing, gardening, dinner, etc. Over here at Women’s Cycling, we have started working on our first Women’s Cycling Short and Bib Guide by reviewing as many women’s cycling shorts and bibs as we can get our hands on. Let’s discuss what criteria we will be covering and make sure to weigh in on what matters to you in the comments!<p></p>
<h2>Women’s Cycling Short and Bib Testing Criteria</h2>
<ol>
<li><strong>The Level of Short/Bib:&nbsp;</strong><br>
• Beginner &lt;25 miles<br>
• Intermediate 25-50 miles<br>
• The Long Ride over 50 miles</li>
<li><strong>Chamois Comfort</strong></li>
<li><strong>Fit</strong></li>
<li><strong>Price to Comfort &amp; Technology</strong></li>
<li><strong>Size range</strong></li>
<li><strong>Availability</strong></li>
</ol>
<p>Do you have something to add to our criteria? Let us know!</p>

<p>Last year I started becoming more aware of the quality and source of my clothes. I noticed the clothes I invested in were the ones I loved, wore the most and they didn’t wear out as quickly. My cost per use for my more expensive items was actually lower than the impulse cheap purchases. This is where prAna entered my life. I fell in love with a handful of their pants and shorts that were originally designed for climbing&nbsp;or yoga to wear them bike commuting and perfect for my active lifestyle. Today I’m going to introduce you to my new favorite pant to pedal around in or to slip on over spandex after a ride.</p>
<h2>prAna Annexi Pant</h2>
<p>I was a bit hesitant ordering these <a href="http://www.prana.com/annexi-pant.html?color=blackherringbone" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">pants</a>. I’m 5’10 with a 33″ inseam.&nbsp;Typically capris look silly on me or simply don’t fit. The&nbsp;Sutra® stretch and elastic waistband somehow do magic and they&nbsp;fit me perfectly out of the box. Sizing wise, I’m a size 8 and ordered a large for length.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2>Let’s Talk About Hemp</h2>
<p>Before prAna, the only thing I knew about hemp were the necklaces I wore as a teenager. Once I started reading about “<a href="http://www.prana.com/about-us/sustainability/hemp.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Why Hemp</a>” from prAna and&nbsp;other companies I realized this was the fabric I needed in my life. It’s lightweight, resembles linen and doesn’t wrinkle as badly! It seems to be the perfect travel fabric.</p>
<p><img data-attachment-id="950" data-permalink="http://womens-cycling.com/prana-annexi-pant-review-off-bike/prana-annexi-pant-review-8/" data-orig-file="http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/prAna-Annexi-Pant-Review-8.jpg" data-orig-size="1200,1200" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;2.2&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;iPhone 6s&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;1494960380&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;2.65&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;40&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0.016666666666667&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;1&quot;}" data-image-title="prAna Annexi Pant Review" data-image-description="" data-medium-file="http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/prAna-Annexi-Pant-Review-8-300x300.jpg" data-large-file="http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/prAna-Annexi-Pant-Review-8-1024x1024.jpg" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-950" src="../wp-content/uploads/2017/05/prAna-Annexi-Pant-Review-8-300x300.jpg" alt="prAna Annexi Pant Review" width="300" height="300" srcset="http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/prAna-Annexi-Pant-Review-8-300x300.jpg 300w, http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/prAna-Annexi-Pant-Review-8-150x150.jpg 150w, http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/prAna-Annexi-Pant-Review-8-768x768.jpg 768w, http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/prAna-Annexi-Pant-Review-8-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/prAna-Annexi-Pant-Review-8-400x400.jpg 400w, http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/prAna-Annexi-Pant-Review-8-125x125.jpg 125w, http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/prAna-Annexi-Pant-Review-8.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px"></p>
<h2>prAna Annexi Pant for Bike Commuting</h2>
<p>These pants look good paired with a t-shirt&nbsp;or with a dress shirt. Thanks to the slim leg and capri&nbsp;cut they are perfect for pedaling. Another nice function of the hemp is it seems to breathe well which means ventilation when riding! The elastic back band makes for a nice fit when leaned over, but I do wish it had a drawstring or something to tighten up the waist.</p>

<p>Earlier this week, our 9-week old miniature schnauzer puppy came home. Appropriately named Burley as he’ll be spending a LOT of time inside of a Burley trailer or underneath the Burley stroller. One of the reasons we opted for a smaller dog compared to our 80lb chocolate lab and 45lb Australian&nbsp;Shepard was bikeablity,&nbsp;and because we didn’t want to deal with a large puppy with&nbsp;a 2-year old toddler!</p>
<p>After picking up the pup I realized I wouldn’t want to use our Bullitt cargo bike or Burley trailer every time I&nbsp;wanted to bring the dog to the coffee shop or coworking space. I hunted online for too many hours reading reviews on baskets, backpacks and rack bags. While I’m sure they will all be wonderful, and I may end up testing out a few of them, they are initially not for me.</p>
<p><img data-attachment-id="890" data-permalink="http://womens-cycling.com/dog-bike-bag-step-1/swift-cascade-ozette-rando-bag/" data-orig-file="http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Cascade-Ozette-Rando-Bag.png" data-orig-size="1118,1026" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="Swift Cascade Ozette Rando Bag" data-image-description="" data-medium-file="http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Cascade-Ozette-Rando-Bag-300x275.png" data-large-file="http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Cascade-Ozette-Rando-Bag-1024x940.png" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-890" src="../wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Cascade-Ozette-Rando-Bag.png" alt="Swift Cascade Ozette Rando Bag" width="1118" height="1026" srcset="http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Cascade-Ozette-Rando-Bag.png 1118w, http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Cascade-Ozette-Rando-Bag-300x275.png 300w, http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Cascade-Ozette-Rando-Bag-768x705.png 768w, http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Cascade-Ozette-Rando-Bag-1024x940.png 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1118px) 100vw, 1118px"></p>
<p>From there, I searched the internet learning too much about randonneuring bags and racks. Ultimately thinking I would be ordering a few front racks with a <a href="http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/accessories/racks-decaleurs/vo-decaleur-kits.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Velo Orange decaleur kit</a> to use a <a href="https://builtbyswift.com/shop/cascade-ozette-rando-bag/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Swift Ozette Rando Bag</a> to carry the dog, leash and water bowl between all my bikes.</p>
<p>Then I learn that Velo Orange is sold out of that very critical piece until the summer.</p>
<h2>Next Try</h2>
<p><img data-attachment-id="888" data-permalink="http://womens-cycling.com/dog-bike-bag-step-1/swift-sugarloaf-basket-bag/" data-orig-file="http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Sugarloaf-Basket-Bag.png" data-orig-size="948,788" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="Swift Sugarloaf Basket Bag" data-image-description="" data-medium-file="http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Sugarloaf-Basket-Bag-300x249.png" data-large-file="http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Sugarloaf-Basket-Bag.png" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-888" src="../wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Sugarloaf-Basket-Bag.png" alt="Swift Sugarloaf Basket Bag" width="948" height="788" srcset="http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Sugarloaf-Basket-Bag.png 948w, http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Sugarloaf-Basket-Bag-300x249.png 300w, http://womens-cycling.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/Swift-Sugarloaf-Basket-Bag-768x638.png 768w" sizes="(max-width: 948px) 100vw, 948px"></p>
<p>Back to the drawing board, I went. Remembering the <a href="https://builtbyswift.com/shop/sugarloaf/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Swift Sugarloaf Basket Bag</a>, I then watched the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.pathlesspedaled.com/2016/11/10/review-swift-industries-sugarloaf-basket-bag/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Path Less Pedaled review</a>&nbsp;that sealed the deal. I didn’t like that it wasn’t sturdy on the sides, but I did like the utility of a basket on the front of my rando bike.I &nbsp;also liked the price of the recommended <a href="http://www.treefortbikes.com/product/333222407002/1186/Soma-Fabrications-Mini-Front.html?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=cpc&amp;scid=scplp333222407002&amp;sc_intid=333222407002&amp;gclid=CjwKEAjw3drIBRCOwfC-_qqyjQ8SJADvoWQp0FiNEvkq7ntnogWECOpCgsYO91u96lb6A_oLHiDPNxoCNavw_wcB" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Soma Fab front rack</a> that you attach a Wald 137 basket on to.</p>

<p>The bag isn’t vented, but the dog will be sitting on the front of the bike with the wind in his hair. After contacting Swift to ask questions, they were willing to stitch in a leash clip inside so I can leave the bag fully unzipped when necessary. While I’m not 100% sure he will fit in the bag long term, I think it’s a good first step for the next few months while we wait for the Velo Orange parts to come in stock and for the little dog to&nbsp;learn to love riding on a bike (<em>I hope!</em>)</p>
<p>The bag, rack and basket should be arriving this coming week. I’ll be documenting the process of installation and the first few rides with Burley riding shotgun!</p>
<h2>How Do You Carry Your Dog?</h2>
<p>We would love to hear from you to see how you carry your dog, big or small, by bike!</p>

But let’s be honest, racing is intimidating and yet it is sexy and appealing in so many ways.<p></p>
<p><a href="https://www.coloradocycling.org/" target="_blank">Bicycle Racing Association of Colorado</a> is helping women overcome fears, and making road and criterium racing a safer sport with women’s racing clinics. I reached out to the organizer, <a href="https://www.coloradocycling.org/board-member-profile-kim-nordquist" target="_blank">Kim Nordquist</a>, to get some background on the upcoming criterium clinic and what women should be ready for.</p>
<h2>Colorado’s Beginner Women Racing Program</h2>
<p>The mentoring clinic is sponsored by the Bicycle Racing Association of Colorado and has been an annual event for several years.&nbsp; We have six experienced women racers, including one USAC Certified Coach, who will lead the clinic on the <span class="aBn" tabindex="0" data-term="goog_1783939257"><span class="aQJ">23rd of April</span></span>. Our clinic is held at the <a href="https://www.withoutlimits.co/" target="_blank">Without Limits Louisville Criterium</a>, before the beginning women’s races, at <span class="aBn" tabindex="0" data-term="goog_1783939258"><span class="aQJ">7:20 am</span></span>.&nbsp; The mentors will lead a discussion about riding safely in a pack,&nbsp;holding your line and&nbsp;cornering at speed.&nbsp; We will complete three to four preview laps practicing what we discussed, with one lap at race speed. This clinic is free and open to women of all ages and abilities.&nbsp; The Bicycle Racing Association features several Beginning Racer Program clinics throughout the year for women as well as men. Please visit BRAC for more information:&nbsp;<a href="https://www.coloradocycling.org/node/1073" target="_blank">https://www.coloradocycling.<wbr>org/node/1073</a></p>

<p>When my daughter was born two years ago, I became hyper-aware of what it meant to be a kind, brave, and strong woman. I also quickly realized how uniquely difficult our current world is for little girls and young women.</p>
<p>A <a href="https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-science-success/201101/the-trouble-bright-girls">study in the 1980’s</a> showed that intelligent girls were more likely to give up when something was difficult while bright boys were more likely to view it as a challenge. Why is this? Are boys allowed to fail, or encouraged to try differently than girls who are expected to “be good”?</p>
<h3>I WANT TO&nbsp;EMPOWER WOMEN TO BE MORE</h3>
<p>Last week I was recording a podcast with Cat from <a href="http://www.girleatsbike.com/category/podcast/#.WJasVLYrIy4">The JoyRide podcast</a> and we discussed at length that&nbsp;many people don’t start something&nbsp;because they feel they aren’t good enough, yet. This can stem from so many places such as the imposter syndrome, the gear acquisition syndrome, seasonal depression and the lack of self-confidence.</p>
<p>Some examples:</p>
<ul>
<li>I must be excellent in 99% of the desired skills on this job posting before applying.</li>
<li>Lose X&nbsp;amount of weight before trying Y.</li>
<li>Once I’ve been riding for this much time and understand all the parts of my bicycle I can visit that local bike shop.</li>
<li>I’m not an authority in this space because I don’t have a master’s degree.</li>
<li>I don’t have 3 hours a day to devote to writing so there is no point in starting to write that book.</li>
</ul>
<p>As a mom, one of the greatest things I can offer my daughter and every other little girl out there is to show them how to be more and worry less.</p>
<p>You don’t need the moons to be aligned to start that new habit. You don’t have to be in “good enough” shape to start that exercise class. You don’t have to buy the perfect bike to start riding. You don’t need to have your masters degree to be an authority in your space. You don’t need to worry about all of the many reasons you can’t do something. You can be more.</p>
<p>Do you want to write a book? Write a damn book one word and one day at a time. It doesn’t need to be perfect. YOU wrote a fucking book!! Enjoy it. Celebrate it. Learn from it and write a second one. It will be better than your first and now you have written two books.</p>
<p>Do you want to lose weight? Focus on what you can control. Be more than you were yesterday. Enjoy the process of becoming a healthier version of yourself.</p>
<p>What do you want to be? Take steps towards it. Walk slowly. Crawl. Take a breath. Be proud that you are more than you were moments before.</p>
<h3>BE MORE TODAY</h3>
<p>Whatever that habit, wish or goal is you’ve been putting off. Be more. You’ve been wanting to call that friend? Do it. Try the new restaurant? Book it. Don’t wait until all is perfect. That day will probably never come, but today – today you&nbsp;can be more and worry less.</p>
