The next update to Etude is out! It’s a free upgrade for all users, so go get it on the App Store! Here’s what’s new:

NEW FEATURES (iPad):

- Now supports scores with multiple instruments.

- New synthesizer offers improved sound quality

- On piano pieces, individual hands can be toggled on and off and shown in different colors.

- New “play highlight” setting allows 3 choices:

- No highlight: Just turn the pages

- Note: The way it’s always worked, with the cursor moving in front of the music

- Measure: New subtle, unobtrusive effect where the current measure is highlighted in the color assigned to that staff in the keyboard/instruments list.

(You may need to delete and re-download pieces in your library to enable this)

- Volume can now be changed from a slider in the app



BUG FIXES (iPad):

- Fixed issue where “my scores” screen did not always display correctly after rotating.

- Fixed some timing and synchronization issues

- Fixed crash that could occur when rotating the screen while playing a piece

- Fixed crash that often occurred when deleting scores from My Scores

- Scores can now be deleted from the “my scores” screen via the “edit” button.

To get the update, just use the update feature in iTunes or in the App Store on your iOS device.

It’s called Etude, and the best way to describe it is “sheet music on steroids.” It combines traditional sheet music with an on-screen keyboard whose keys light up to reveal the position of notes. The app also uses its own synthesizer to simultaneously play the piece aloud. It ships with access to an in-app music store that you can download new songs from.

Here’s what’s new:

• Redesigned interface: You can now create a text entry in one click, as well as import saved images.
• Fixed bug in comments screen on version 3.0 of the OS.

In the past, services were hidden in a confusing menu. But with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, services now make a lot more sense. You can turn them on and off, configure shortcuts, and even show them in contextual menus.

Here’s how to use ShoveBox’s service in 10.6:

1. Open System Preferences.
2. Choose the Keyboard pane under Hardware.
3. Choose the second tab, Keyboard Shortcuts
4. From the categories on the left, choose Services.
5. Scroll down to the Text subcategory, and look for the Send to ShoveBox service.
6. Check the checkbox next to the service to enable it.
7. Optionally enter a new keyboard shortcut if you’d like to change the default..

Spiffy! Now you can use it in the Services menu, as well as by right-clicking on text:
