Consuela here, hoping you’ll be my new best friend! Foster mom says I’m the cutest, sweetest, prettiest, most low-maintenance basset you’ll ever meet! Snuggling and snoozing are two of my favorite ways to pass the time. I like to play with other dogs, as long as I don’t have to share my food with them – I am rather protective of it when other dogs are around. I love to be the center of attention, and would be very happy in a one-dog family. My back legs are a little wobbly, but I can get around very well. I especially like to get on the sofa for a nice cuddle or nap, but when the back door opens and the yard is calling, I’ll be glad to hop right on out there. I’ll keep a good eye out for squirrels and other critters, but sometimes I get so excited about them that I start digging near the fence to chase them. My ideal home will have a fence that is secure and gap-free so I don’t dig my way to China. If you don’t have a fence, don’t worry – just keep me on my leash and we can track those critters together. Inside my dream home, carpets or rugs on the floor would be ideal – that way I don’t slip and slide! Climbing stairs isn’t so easy for me, so level surfaces are best also. Celebrate Hispanic Culture at the Charleston Cinco de Mayo Festival

Enjoy a refreshing margarita at the Cinco de Mayo Festival!

Although it’s important to recognize and celebrate different cultures throughout the year, there’s one big day when we celebrate Hispanic culture and that is Cinco de Mayo. Spanish for “Fifth of May,” Cinco de Mayo is a time for people of all different ethnicities to come together and celebrate the heritage and customs of Mexico.

Charleston is a great place to be for Cinco de Mayo because we have Cinco de Mayo Festival which takes place Saturday, May 5 in downtown Charleston at the Visitor Center Bus Terminal from 7-11pm. Festival-goers can expect great music, dancing, beverages, and of course, authentic Mexican cuisine.

This festival not only encourages togetherness among different cultures, but also works to raise awareness and funds for Nuevos Caminos, a nonprofit mission dedicated to serving the Hispanic population of the South Carolina lowcountry.

General admission tickets to the festival can be purchased ahead of time for $10 at charlestoncinco.eventbrite.com. Get yours and join the fun!

Celebrate Earth Day in North Charleston on April 14

Now that Earth Day is right around the corner, it’s a good idea to start thinking about what ways you can go green around your West Ashley apartment. You can opt for energy efficient light bulbs, take shorter showers, and wash your clothes in cold water to conserve energy. Whether you’re new to the whole green thing or you’re an eco-friendly expert, you’ll want to make it a point to attend the 13th Annual Charleston County Earth Day Festival.

This festival will be taking place on Saturday, April 14 from 11 to 5 p.m. at the Riverfront Park in North Charleston, which is about a 15 minute drive from our apartment community at Woodbridge. The festival activities this year include an art contest, science projects, booths focusing on waste reduction, composting, wildlife, energy and water conservation, community exhibits, and more.
