					<description><![CDATA[<p><a href="https://www.woodturningpens.com/bloodwood-set-of-8/"><img align="right" hspace="5" width="223" height="137" src="https://www.woodturningpens.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/13/Bloodwood-Set-of-8-223x137.jpg" class="alignright tfe wp-post-image" alt="" decoding="async" /></a>My favorite piece is the 13" platter.  Granted, the color is weak but the sheer size and the interesting pattern make the piece striking nonetheless.  It is rare to find Bloodwood in such a large dimension so thank you to the folks at Tropical Exotic Hardwoods of San Diego for sourcing this piece.  The blank was heavily checked when I bought it but almost all of that was cut out in the rounding process and in cutting the reverse.  It is a good example of why we shouldn't reject a checked blank on principle without considering how we might eliminate such defects in the turning process.</p>

					<description><![CDATA[<p><a href="https://www.woodturningpens.com/seven-new-honduran-rosewood/"><img align="right" hspace="5" width="223" height="137" src="https://www.woodturningpens.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/13/Honduran-Rosewood-1-223x137.jpg" class="alignright tfe wp-post-image" alt="" decoding="async" loading="lazy" /></a>I found the most notable feature of this set of seven Honduran Rosewood bowls to be the wide color variability demonstrated from bowl to bowl.  Several of the bowls are almost a plain brown, perhaps a pale mauve at best and yet some of the other pieces are a deep reddish purple.  Regardless of the color of the wood the turning process and experience was the same.  I had a very hard time cutting the blanks round on the bandsaw since Honduran Rosewood is so hard and I am somewhat grateful that I am done with that part of the process.</p>

					<description><![CDATA[<p><a href="https://www.woodturningpens.com/five-new-bocote-bowls/"><img align="right" hspace="5" width="223" height="137" src="https://www.woodturningpens.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/13/Bocote-Group-223x137.jpg" class="alignright tfe wp-post-image" alt="" decoding="async" loading="lazy" /></a>This set of 5 bowls in the largest single batch of Bocote that I have worked with and I was quite pleased with it.  Bocote continues to be easy to turn and easy to clean up and prepare for the final finish.  I continued to use Abranet screens for the minimal sanding required because this highly oily wood gums up regular sandpaper in a matter of seconds.</p>
