The beauty of this system is that there is no hardware and dust cannot get to the drawer contents.  You will be building simple drawer boxes that insert into a slightly larger drawer pocket.  With this method, your parts will not wear out and your drawers will be free of dust.  To my surprise, by building my drawer boxes properly, they don’t even bind during humid weather.

In any event, you can find the link to the free plans below.  Have fun building this simple bench and enjoy the clean storage.  One suggestion that the plan publisher makes is to consider building an additional bank of drawers into the lower shelf.  Not a bad idea and just a little extra plywood.

If you want to avoid the hardware on your drawer front, consider cutting a small finger notch that is about 1″ wide by 2″ in on the bottom sheet of plywood.  This is barley visible, cheaper, and a much cleaner look than using the hardware.

I think that we have probably featured more than 10 planter plans over the past few years.  We have shared planter boxes, window boxes, planters with a bench among the plans.   The reason for this is similar to the reason that we have featured more than 10 styles of Adirondack chairs… Everyone has their own sense of style.  You might love an arts and crafts look where your siblings might appreciate a minimalist style.

The following planter plan is a nice design that fits with most decor.  In fact, you could build this planter and leave out the criss cross design for a simple planter box.  The finish is important here since you will note be using pressure treated materials.  In fact, you should touch up the paint every year if you want these planter boxes to last as long as possible.

This wood plan is well documented and comes with a full video how to.  That is the most helpful part.  I would recommend that you watch the video from start to finish before you begin.

With any woodworking project, I strongly suggest that you review the complete plan prior to starting.  You will be better equipped to do things properly the first time.

Good luck building your own Westport chair.  This design is really a thing of beauty.

A word of warning.  The “shopping list” on the This Old House website is wrong.  They mention 1/2″ lumber for your material.  NOT EVEN CLOSE.  The lumber you need to purchase is 5/4, which is a full 1″ thickness.  This is described on the Cut List (pdf) so I would strongly recommend you go through all parts of the plan prior to beginning.  A chair made of 1/2″ lumber would fall apart, possibly break apart, in pretty short order.

The following plans are for very nice wheeled planter boxes.  The boxes don’t have to be on wheels (casters), but if this is right for your space, go for it.

These planters have a fantastic shape and provide a very contemporary feel.   I could see these around a pool at a nice hotel.

The plan is relatively simple.  The only real “tricky” part is the double angled cut on your inner frame to achieve the taper.  To be hones, it isn’t that big a deal.  In fact, you could achieve that angle with a bit of sanding, so don’t be intimidated by the taper!

If you are looking for a plan to build a ladder display plan from scratch, there is a great plan at Ana-White.com.  These plans are a “how to” showing how you can turn an existing ladder into a set of shelves.   My wife is obviously a fan of this style and happened by a 100 year old ladder at an estate sale.  $4 later and my wife was the proud owner of a paint covered ladder from many years ago.  The amount of paint on an old ladder is a look that is nearly impossible to recreate.  There are paint drops that are half scuffed, dirty, and covered again.  Our ladder has the old round handle on the hinge, so I will try to find a way to incorporate that.

I must say, we were at a couple of estate sales since and ladders are plentiful.  Yours might not be as old, and paint covered, as ours but you will probably be able to find something to suit your needs for less than $10.

On to the project.  This is something that I located at the “Pretty Handy Girl” blog.   In her project post, she outlines the entire project and details each step very well with photos.    The one surprising thing with this plan is the distance that the ladder extends from the wall at the bottom.  You might think that you could easily just slide the ladder in, but the angle on the treads matches that pitch.  I might add a small wedge to alter the angle of my treads before attaching the shelves.  This will take up much less of a footprint and won’t be noticeable when complete.   The link for the full plans are below.

When I saw this workbench plans it made me realize that I could kill two birds with one stone.  Lumber storage and work surface.  In fact, this project might be perfect for me up on a set of locking casters.  If you build yours on casters, be sure to adjust the height of the top by the height of the casters you use.

I like this project based on the amount of material that can be stored underneath (You will lose a bit with the caster adjustment, but it might be worth it.

This calls for dowels to be glued in place, but I think that it might be a bit more effective with the ability to move the dowels as if they were shelf pins that could be adjusted.  Let’s say you stumble across some 4″ x 8″ timbers… A simple adjustment on the bottom shelf pins/dowels will allow for the storage space.

I think that I will build one of these for my cottage garage space.  We like to keep the garage clear and the ability to wheel this off to the side is very desirable.   I will probably use an existing piece of MDF for the top.  With a nice clean/smooth top, this is a perfect painting station that my wife would be happy to use as well.

Don’t we all need some extra clamp storage?  Well, some efficient and out of the way clamp storage?  This is a simple plan that is nicely detailed in photos.  There are not any measured drawings or material list, but if you have this many bar clamps, you won’t need those things.

I know that I do.  If you have built a tree house before, you will know that the key to an awesome tree house is in the detail.  Whether it is a dutch door, a bunk bed or a simple loft, these are the things that make a tree house (“fort”) special.

One of the real beauties of this “tree house” plan is that you don’t need a tree!

When you take the time with the finishing details (as in the following plans) you end up with something special.  The owl theme that include an owl “peep hole” in the door are very cool and unique. If you have tackled a plan this large, you will probably understand that these are generally the parts of the project that are set aside for a later date (only to be left unfinished forever).  So, if you are building a special tree house, pace yourself and make these details required tasks in your project.

There are many place to draw inspiration from. Heck Pinterest has become a must go-to site to gather inspiration for my projects.
