Bowdon Ladies into the Semi Finals

Tina Cullen continued her outstanding scoring record with 2 more goals against Clifton on Saturday. Bowdon Hightown scored midway through the first half and secured the win on 68 minutes. They move from second bottom to 7th in the Investec women’s hockey league going into the Christmas break. Lets hope they take this form into the Indoor season.

Bowdon Hightown also includes Nicky O’Donnell who represented England up until a few years ago and she uses the Megabite:(designed with club badge and colours). Amy Tennant between the sticks wears Monarch Lightning foam and also represents England at the U18 level. Tina our most recent addition uses the Megabite Ltd Edition and has scored 8 goals with it in just 5 games.

Beeston and Bowdon Hightown Complete Comprehensive Victories.

Beeston Men’s Hockey Club completed the double over the weekend as they took victory in the EHB Cup against a spirited Doncaster Team. The dismal weather wasn’t matched by the player’s performances as Beeston piled on the pressure throughout the first half only to be denied on numerous occasions by the outstanding Doncaster keeper Ashley Watson. Watson pulled off some fantastic stick saves to keep the Northern Conference side in the match with a half time score of 1-0 thanks to a low drag flick from Beeston’s Andrew Monte. The Doncaster supporters were in full voice as their side took to the pitch for the second half only for Monte to grab his second goal of the game two minutes into the half. However, Doncaster were not to be out beaten and pulled a goal back through a slick short corner routine, calmly finished by Joe Morrison. A series of chances were then wasted by the Northern team which could have dramatically altered the final standings of the game. As it was Beeston proceeded to up their game and show why they are the current league champions with 4 goals from Chris Gregg, Ben Arnold, Martin Jones and David Ames. Doncaster had one final flurry with a well taken goal from Jonathan Redfern who slotted the ball from the top of the circle with two minutes remaining. However, it wasn’t to be enough as the dominant Nottinghamshire side claimed their second trophy of the year.

In the earlier game of the day another conference team took on the top flight. Surbiton women narrowly missed out on a National Prem play-off place but were looking to prove their credentials against the premiership might of Bowdon Hightown’s women. Although Bowdon were dominant in the first half they only managed to convert their pressure into a one goal lead leaving the door wide open for cup up-set. However, a six minute flurry in the second half saw the premier team establish a four goal advantage. Sally Walton had the pick of the goals with an excellent bit of skill at the top of the circle before smashing the ball on her reverse stick past the unsuspecting Surbiton keeper. Surbiton replied through Abi Robinson but it was too little to late as Bowdon claimed the 2011 EH Cup in what was a very strong and deserved performance.
