Teen conference to educate on bullying, drug abuse and violence

In collaboration with New Horizon Family Center and the Baytown Housing Authority, Communities in Schools of Baytown will host “It’s A Jungle Out There” Teen Survival Conference on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Lee College Gymnasium. Students in grades 8-12 within the greater Baytown area will have an opportunity to participate in breakout sessions regarding Media and Music and its role in Teen Violence, Bullying and Bystanders, Teen Dating and Violence, Peer Pressure and its influence on drug/alcohol abuse.

Goose Creek CISD will provide transportation for students to attend the conference. Students will need to be at their home campus by 8:30 a.m., and will return by 3 p.m., after the conference. Parents are welcome to attend and the conference includes a parent track. Food and drinks will be provided and participants will have an opportunity to win prizes.

Jumping to the cause

As the kids tumbled, bounced and flew down slides, they giggled and screamed with the joy one might expect from a huge indoor playground.

But some kids may have spent Sunday worrying if they would be able to have clothes to wear, or even pens, pencils and paper on which to write as they went about their daily classes. And it is for those kids that Bounce USA, Sonic and the Communities in School’s program were looking Sunday afternoon.
