They now seek $34 million billion loan instead of the $25 billion that they previously requested. While new polls indicate that most Americans do not support giving the automakers the bridge loans they need to survive the credut crisis, that will not change the fact that failure to bail out the big three will cause millions unbelievable hardship and devastate the midwest.

This past Sunday, Somali pirates (yes, that is what I said) attacked an ultra luxury cruise ship. According to USA Today, passengers could not see them, but they could hear them. Oceania Cruises has said the pirates approached on two small skiffs and fired eight shots at the 11-deck-high Nautica in what presumably was an attempt to board and hijack the vessel. The captain of the Nautica ordered the ship to full speed, and it was able to out run the attackers.

The New York Times reports today that “In Mumbai, Rakesh Maria, India’s joint commissioner of police, said that the… Lashkar-e-Taiba military commander who helped engineer the attacks was Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi. Mr. Maria said that the surviving attacker, 21-year-old Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, identified Mr. Lakhvi and said he helped indoctrinate all the attackers.”
