Ah, well. This is going to be a learning experience for the both of us, I guess. Here’s to the changes in my life this little bundle of fur is going to bring.

Oh, and I’m on vacation.

Edit: Holy crap, I can’t believe I can’t remember how old I freaking am. Oi.

First and foremost, the Husky is a working class breed. They live to run and run to live in some of the more Nordic areas of the world. They will run till they can’t run anymore and then run some more. Point in case: I would put on Kiki’s sled harness and hook her to my bike. She would take off in a dead sprint for a quarter-mile and then trot for the rest of the 5 mile run. I’d have to gather up the gangline to keep from running it over on my way home, but once home, the blasted dog wanted to go again. This need to run is both their claim to fame and their biggest hinderance. Because they have this need to run, they have a tendency to run away when off leash. Sibes that run around obediently off-leash are the exception, not the rule. No matter how much recall command you do, these dogs will ignore you in exchange for adventure.

Second: FUR. While they don’t shed all year round like some breeds, these dogs will “blow” their coats at least twice a year. In the spring, people who don’t understand the breed will criticize you for suspected malnutrition. This is not the case. They shed so profusely during the blow-out period, you can literally pluck the dog. The FURminator is a godsend among shedding tools. While the shedding blade was once king among them, they are blades. A squirmy brush encounter can lead to some nasty cuts on you, the dog, or both. (From experience, it was mostly me…) Also, this process will take at least 2 weeks of TWICE daily brushing. Until you get through this, expect fluffs everywhere, including your car. At one time, Josh thought I was trying to build another dog in the backseat of our Toyota. I was forced to put a sheet back there to control the hair.

These dogs are also prone to high anxiety due to being a highly social pack dog. Kiki was never like this and was extremely well adjusted to being alone for a few hours at a time. This combined with a lot of exercise helped combat the anxiety. Providing toys will also help keep your dog occupied. If all else fails, you may need to use a crate to keep your house from being damaged or to keep the dog from damaging themselves by getting into something they shouldn’t. (Like the garbage…)

Obedience isn’t a hard thing with this breed. Like all working classes, they desire to learn. However, they can be stubborn at times. If the Sibe gets bored, you can bet your training session is over. You’ve got to have a lot of patience with them. It does pay off in the end, though. Kiki wasn’t with me long, but because of her eagerness to learn, she picked up on tricks and mush commands quickly. Now, whether she obeyed them half the time was another story. Start as early as possible when training your Sibe with simple commands such as “sit”, “down”, and “stay.” (stay may take a little while to catch on, as the little furball is going to want to cuddle a lot.) You’ll be amazed at how quickly they’ll catch on. Use praise and treats. Lots of treats. If they dog does something you don’t want it to do, ignore it and continue to push the correct command. If you don’t treat the wrong action, it will be ignored by the dog and eventually forgotten.

These are only a few touched points on owning a Siberian Husky. If you truly want one, the best thing you can do is research, research, and more research. Talk to owners and breeders. Browse the ‘net on the breed. Don’t let the fluffy coat fool you into thinking it will be an easy dog to take care of. This dog requires a lot of work and patience, and this me speaking from only taking care of one for 7 months! With the right amount of patience and endurance on your part, however, owning of these beautiful dogs becomes well worth it in the long run.

Now I just have to keep telling myself that when Jack comes home.

He’s the dark gray one in the pictures! My baby has a name and now a face! Jack looks like his mama but he has a mask instead of the white face. He’s adorable. Now comes the hard part: Waiting until he can come home…

So, I just got word that a dog that I fostered just had puppies! And the owner is letting me have one for the cost of shots for the pup. I’m still in the process of convincing my husband to let me have one since I’m in the positive light that we’ll be able to keep this house. If not, Huskies are not a blacklisted breed and I know how much energy they need. Hence my mountain bike that I’ve rigged up as a “sled” So, I may be dusting off my Canon XT and actually get some pictures come August.

Photography has always been my first love and always will be. Maybe with a spunky new subject I’ll be able to hone my skills and actually make use of my programs that I seemed to miss a beta for. (I’m looking at YOU ADOBE LIGHTROOM 3 BETA. Jerks.)

For those of you looking for the next installment of Show Her You Can Dance, don’t worry, I haven’t abandoned that project. I am working on it. It’s just that this point of the story coincides with the game and as many of you know (Or at least those who have played Mass Effect 2), it’s a very serious point in the game as well as my story. Even if I do take artistic liberties. So, rest assured, I am working on it, but I am working on giving you quality work that lives up to what you guys have come to expect

P.P.S. This is Mama!

“This is a freaking nightmare,” she grumbled. Begrudgingly, Jenna limped back down the stairs and left the shelter in hopes of finding another one. The bright sun made her flinch as she stepped out into the busy city. Out of the corner of her eye, Jenna caught sight of a man watching her. It looked as if he were trying to stay out of her attention, but she caught him.

Jenna had been seeing him everywhere. His tall, athletic frame was hard to miss in a crowd. Images of the man started to flicker through her mind; A walk in the park, leaned against his shoulder. Looking into hazel colored eyes, holding tanned-skinned hands. Those same eyes, frightened this time as rain poured down on them, soaking short dark hair and blood on her hands.

She shook her head and adjusted her backpack. As she turned to leave, Jenna saw another person watching her. It was a woman this time. A perfectly tailored gray pantsuit Blonde hair pulled back in a tight bun. Eyes hidden behind oversized sunglasses, but Jenna could just tell this woman was watching her. It was some uncanny ability she had. In a crowded room full of people stealing glances at each other, she could pick out the one person staring at her.

Once again, Jenna shrugged off the stares. Her right leg was starting to bother her again, forcing the reminder in her brain that she needed to take care of that soon. Yet, as soon as she was moving again, she noticed the woman start to get up. Thinking nothing of it, Jenna kept walking by when she felt a warm hand slip into hers. She quickly glanced down and tried to pull hers away, but the grip tightened. It was the man she saw before. Jenna glared at him for a second and opened her mouth to protest, but he silenced her.

“Act like you know me,” he muttered. The man gave her a quick side-long glance before looking ahead once more. “It’s not safe for you here anymore.”

For some reason, Jenna felt compelled to trust this man who so boldly stepped to her side. She could feel a slight heat in her cheeks as he gripped her hand, leading her through the city. He moved at a careful but quick pace, keeping note on her limp. Every so often he would stop and glance at her with a worried look before looking around. In the back of her mind, Jenna was screaming at herself. Who is he? Why is he doing this? Why does he seem so familiar?!

“We need to get out of here.”

Jenna shook her head, bringing herself back to reality and looked around. She looked up at the train station and narrowed her eyes a bit. “We can take the train.”

The man looked down at her in confusion. “There won’t be a train for 20 minutes. We need something fa-”

“It’s early.” As if to prove her point, the sound of a distant train whistle blew. Jenna grinned and looked up at her mysterious escort. “I heard it coming.”

He shook his head and chuckled. “You always did have impeccable hearing.” His hazel eyes shot around for a moment before he steered them into the crowd. Jenna took a glance back and saw the woman from earlier looking around the station for them. She couldn’t help but feel a sigh of relief in her lungs as the doors closed before the woman could find them. But she didn’t know why.

Everything was familiar to her; The park they ran to; The river that ran through it; Him. Finally unable to stand the confusion anymore, Jenna grabbed the man’s arm and forced him to turn to her. Anger, confusion, and pain were all wound into her eyes as she glared into his concerned hazel orbs. “For as long as I can remember, I’ve seen you following me. Every city I go to, every town I stop in, there you are. Why? Why are you following me?”

The man cocked an eyebrow and shook his head. “Because that’s what I’m supposed to do. Make sure you stay out of trouble.” Jenna crossed her arms over her chest, unconvinced. “Why do you keep moving around, anyway?”

She opened her mouth to say something but quickly closed it. It was a good question. Why did she? Jenna shook her head slightly and then shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know. Something in my head keeps telling me, ‘Only one place, only for one day. Gotta keep moving, don’t let them find you.’ Let who find me?” Jenna stepped back and threw he hands in the air. “You! You know what’s going on. You knew that woman was watching me. Either you tell me what the hell is going on, or I’ll make sure you cant follow me anymore!”

The man growled and brought his hands together. He started to tug harshly at something on his left before he finally got it off. Grabbing Jenna’s own left hand, he shoved the object in question into hers. “This is why I’m following you! THIS is why you see me everywhere. I keep following you because you TOLD me to follow you.”

It was then that she noticed her own band. It was a wedding band. HER wedding band. He was familiar to her because he was her husband. The images in her mind were there because they were their memories. But when she tried to remember his name, she couldn’t. She couldn’t remember how they met, where they’ve been, time together. Only fragmented memories came to her. Jenna fell to her knees as tears started to fall down her face in frustration. As hard as she tried, she could remember nothing as she clutched the band.

“Why can’t I remember you? Why can’t I remember anything?”

He knelt down in front of her and wrapped his arms around her. Jenna leaned into his chest and reached for his hand, slipping the band back on over the tan line it had caused. “I don’t know who is doing this to you or why. But when we do, we’ll make them pay.”
