Remember when
typing one
letter at a time
was better.
Mistakes erased
with whiteout.
What a pain.
Today computers
edit our mistakes,
smart, they say.
Too smart.
Red lines nd
green ones too
squelch creativity,
put in words
never meant
Elephants remember
I want to forget.

Hope Is Not On The Way

Looks like it’s still true.

ONE RAINY NIGHT
(Written on election night 2004)

One rainy night
the people flocked,
lined up all around the block,
to vote, we thought,
for a new way,
a change,
a ray of light.

One rainy night,
the people were polled,
even though the night was cold.
It seemed the dream
was near at last.
Our hearts
dared to hope.

One rainy night
the map turned red,
an open wound being bled.
The stain spread
through the night.
Only edges
held to blue.

One rainy night
the dam gave way
to morning, gray on gray,
Out of sight,
the victory lost.
Hope was not
on the way.

One rainy night
should lead to day.
Sunshine will return they say.
Someday . . .

Mother to be
