“It’s a beautiful day to make music.”, is a mantra you’ll hear frequently inside the home of Benjamin & Mia Hackett who make up the duo Azalea. The catch phrase was borrowed and altered from the hit TV drama, Grey’s Anatomy. This afternoon, this phrase means more than ever.

“Today we have some exciting news – the launch of our new record label and publishing company, Big Flower Records.”

With the current climate of the music industry, a focus on creating great music for albums, licensing, and touring, plus an all hands on deck approach to making things happen, Azalea has decided to streamline their process through this new business endeavor. For now, Big Flower Records will function solely as an outlet for Azalea’s music – acting as their record label and publishing company. New Album – “Inside Out”

After a successful indiegogo campaign we are pleased to announce the release of our new album Inside Out. The journey began late July 2013 and went seven weeks. During that time we took the album from concept to completion and wrote, recorded, and mixed the four song EP in our home studio. Inside Out was officially released on September 6, 2013. When we started work on the album it was our plan to create a high quality home grown project that could be completed entirely by two people. Baring our souls, we would craft a diverse album that shed light on the scope of our work. Our goal was to give our listeners a chance to get to know us from the “Inside Out”. We achieved just that and are thrilled with the outcome. The album is available on CD Baby and iTunes and you can purchase it at any live show. We hope that when you do purchase and listen to the album, it will move you from the “Inside Out”.

University of Guelph Newspaper Plugs Azalea

From all reports Azalea went over very well with the patrons at Molly Bloom’s Irish pub in Guelph. The Ontarion, Guelph’s student newspaper was there and wrote, “Despite the dreary backdrop of a rainy Saturday evening on Sept. 29, the harmonious warm tones of Azalea’s Benjamin Hackett and Mia Cioffi transported the patrons of Molly Bloom’s to the likes of a green open field of flowers on a summer’s day… Covering such bands as Great Big Sea and Mumford and Sons may seem difficult to do effectively with only two people, but Azalea managed to do it, and do it well.” Read the full article.

Three Dog Night’s Pat Bautz Sits in with Azalea

Burlington’s Beaver and Bulldog patrons had a rare treat on Thursday August 16. After Three Dog Night finished their performance at the Burlington Performing Arts Center, drummer Pat Bautz stopped by for some refreshment. Hearing Azalea play, Pat liked the band so much he asked to sit in with them for their last set. With just Benjamin’s electronic kick pedal, a pair of sticks, an upturned mayo bucket and a whole lot of flair, Pat beat out a mix of rhythms for a variety of Azalea originals and covers. Needless to say Benjamin and Mia were stoked and said “Pat is so much fun and he gave us a lot of encouragement.”
