Better Weather has allowed small Boats to get out and hook up some better fish lately.

Marks off Portlogan and Portpatrick have been producing some nice Fish lately,Tope,Bullhuss,Pollack,Codling,Haddock and many other species have been landed recently also a few Common Skate have been hooked on Tope tackle but have not been landed. Lucebay marks have also been fishing pretty well with Tope, Huss, Thornbacks and Smoothhounds still being landed , also a few other species around. Marks off the Isle of Whithorn also fishing well with lots of Huss, Tope and other species around ,however Mackerel were not too easy to find last weekend ,we ended up off Burrowhead to get enough to fish for a few hours.

Rock Marks worth a try are Yellow Isle, Lairds Pt., Marks along Killintringan for various species and a Smoothhound on Crab bait is also a possibility from these areas near Portpatrick. Some nice sized Pollack have been caught from Rock Marks around Clanyard Bay,Also from West Tarbet Rock Marks. East Tarbet Rock marks are worth a try for Mackerel. Conger,wrasse and a few other species.

The Sea Fishing from the small boats and charter boats has bee really good when they have been able to get out. From marks of Logan and Portpatrick there has been a lot of decent sized Codling up to about the 5lbs ,and also a few sized Haddock as well as Bullhuss,Pollack,and other species. LuceBay has still been producing a few Tope as well as Thornback Rays,Smoothhounds and Bullhuss. The Shore Fishing has also been pretty good with some nice fish being caught ,although the strong winds have been making it difficult for Anglers with lots of floating weed around. L.S.A.A Results for their last Roving Match from Portwilliam-Carrick are as follows Heaviest Bag 1st John Higgins 16lbs 9oz 2nd Gavin Mc Crae 4lbs7oz 3rd Colin Rothwell 2lbs71/2oz Heaviest Fish 1st John Higgins 9lbs1oz Bass pictured below. John had a memorable Day as he also landed a DoverSole of 1lbs 111/2oz

Area Fishing Pretty well at The Moment

Allthough continual winds have battered our coastline lately, Fishing has still been pretty good, possibly its an advantage living on a Peninsula because usually we can find a sheltered spot on one side.

Small Boat Angling has been good when they have managed out,from marks between Portlogan-Portpatrick some nice Codling,Bullhuss,Pollack and lots of other species have been caught also from Marks in Lucebay some nice sized Tope up to 60lbs have been caught also Thornback Rays, Smoothhounds,and Bullhuss are around. Marks around Mull of Galloway producing Pollack into double figures also some nice sized Wrasse and Conger about. Wrecks out from Isle of Whithorn producing some nice sized Pollack,Coalfish,Conger etc, also some decent sized Tope being caught out from the Isle.Picture of my Granddaughter Jessica helping to land a nice sized Plaice from Portlogan Bay.There have also been a few nice sized Plaice from rock Marks north of Portpatrick,Yellow Isle, Lairds Point and Killantringan,Rock Marks south of portpatrick worth a try for Pollack, Codling,Wrasse, Conger etc. Mackerel are now all around the area but mostly quite small,although some of the Charter Boats from Portpatrick had landed some jumbo sized ones last week. The Railway pier in Stranraer is as good a spot as any to catch a few.

The Stranraer and District Association trout waters are also fishing well at the moment with Rainbow Trout up to 6lbs and Brown trout up to 5lbs being landed. Day Tickets cover Dindinnie,Knockquhassen and Penwhirn Reservoirs as well as Soulseat Loch, and cost £15.00 for Adults,£9.00 for Juniors and a 2 Fish Limit Applies,also there is a concession for OAP permits.
