Dorothy Graves was homeless last year.

She lived out of her 2001 GM Cavalier for four months, showering at friends’ houses, before she heard the Victoria Housing Authority could put a roof over her head.

“I was ecstatic,” the 66-year-old said. “It was the happiest I had been in a long time. It was like winning the lottery.”

“I know that God’s hand is in this because of the growth of Operation Selena,” said Gloria Pargas. Operation Selena has now spread throughout the Pargas home.

The opportunity is this evening only, when Geekdom will host a pro-bono legal clinic for business owners to consult with an attorney about trademarks, patients, and the business of starting a business.

Accion Texas and the 80/20 Foundation will host a free legal clinic for local business owners and entrepreneurs on Wednesday, Nov. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The RAM Law Firm and Texas C-BAR/Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid will provide pro bono services during the clinic which will be held in the offices at Geekdom at 110 E. Houston St., seventh floor.

I returned home to Laredo, Texas as an Equal Justice Works Fellow in 2011. After learning about the prevalence of domestic violence and its long-term effects on families in the area, I wanted to empower survivors of domestic violence to seek and secure the protection they deserve. My experiences taught me that empowering mothers is the best way to improve outcomes for children. Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) has a longstanding commitment to assisting survivors of domestic violence across South Texas.

Un grupo de ex inquilinos del hotel Gateway quienes fueron desalojados de su hogar en Marzo 2014 ganaron una demanda contra los propietarios del hotel con ayuda de la organización Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid. En total se logro obtener el reembolso de 7 personas que habian pagado su renta por adelantado antes de ser sacados del hotel Gateway.

They said the eviction notices showed up after they called CHANNEL 5 for help.

The State Bar of Texas participates in the national celebration each year, highlighting the work of many Texas attorneys dedicating their time and talent to people who cannot afford an attorney to assist them in their most pressing of needs.
