Ep 52

Battle Fields @ Wilmington!

After much ado provided mostly by the death of my previous computer (I have a new one now) Molt has returned! So much has happened in the month and a half or so since my computer pooped-out and much of it has been recorded. However it will take a long time to properly sort through everything that was captured during the interim but this can be supplemented in the meantime by two more episodes that were finished before the fatal crash! I managed to finish editing and finalizing the concluding episodes from the Washington DC series and will soon have them both posted and ready for consumption! More to come soonly for sure, for now please enjoy.

Ep. 50

He Walks and He is I as are You

This is the first in the series that chronicles my vacation in Washington D.C. There will be 4 total episodes that were birthed through that trip and the first one here and now will hopefully set the scene for the overall vibe of what I tried to capture while I was there. I stayed with family friends named the Findleys and it was great company to have spent time with. My absolute favorite among them and the one I adore most in John Findley who appears dominantly throughout the series. Recently I met with my friend Lindsey for some chillaxation and she remarked how cool it is that I have segments of my life encapsulated in this form and I agreed that it is something special and great and I think this series of episode will grow to become some of the most special and meaningful to me as time presses ever on. Enjoi!

Special Report.

I have my interview with the Peace Corps this coming Monday, July 2nd. I was sent a series of questions by my recruiter to give me a general idea of what will be discussed. I took those questions and asked them to myself, recorded my answers and now have saved them here so they may exist in perpetuity hence forth now and forever!

The Petty Recap Of War Heroes

This episode again features a conversation between Yosh Linnman and myself and takes place at Park Grounds in Atlanta. http://www.parkgrounds.com/

The last clip of the show is a fictional tale weaved by yours truly as I let my mind wander through the cavernous landscape of what being a Peace Corps volunteer might be like as far as I can imagine it.

This episode features no music for the simple reason that there weren’t no room!

Molt

Ep. 46

Urban Caliphate

This episode begins with a little clip recorded between myself and my sister Lorgnoc as we walked the streets of Atlanta. We were able to see a lot of African-American art that was very inspirational and beautiful. The clip that features the two of us was grabbed outside of what appeared to be a wedding ceremony. There was a live band of square-looking white guys playing music and she and I stopped to wonder at that for a few gulps.

The next clip was recorded while waiting to attend my orientation session with the Family Refugee Services center in Stone Mountain Georgia. Just a lil’ chewin’ o’ da fat.

The clips that follow my personal monologue are all similar in flavor, context, content, conviviality, consternation, concentration, circumspect wisdom, and consideration. They all feature conversations between Josh and I during our weekly coffee meetings that we have recently established and lavished in! One of my fellow Whole Foodians, Joe, makes an appearance that is most appreciated and welcome!

The culmination of all of these is what makes episode 46 of Molt, Urban Caliphate! Enjoi.

The one and only song featured in this episode is Radiohead’s (nice dream) which can be found on their album The Bends.

Episode 41

Monopod Basics

This episode mirrors the quality that my pictures have taken recently which is basically capturing various moments as they occur so that the seeming mundane nature of the immediacy of the moment can be transcended to something great in the attempt to capture it!

I biked to Kennesaw University (my 100-mile day) to see my sister Lauren and that’s where the episode begins! The clips that follow track various events in my life currently the telling of which take place numerous times at the GSU Commons. Other clips include bits and pieces taken from here and there…

All of the music is taken from an impromptu jam session between Jake, Josh, and yourz truly.

Molt

Ep. 40

Scurrilous Future

The is the return of Molt following the loss of my recorder that I purchased in Japan at the Odd Future show about a month ago! The gears are a little rusty so I’ll have to create a few more shows before I feel like I’m back in the true swing of things. This episode begins with some wise words from Josh Lyner as he recounts his day of golf, fun, and fixie phantasmagoria! This clip is followed by a long clip featuring yours truly. This segment was recorded all-at-once at a park I found on the night of April 17 and was originally a 53-minuet heavyweight. Realizing that this would be too much to take in one sitting I have cut it up into 4 or so coherent parts separated by music from Fleet Foxes Hopelessness Blues which I have been listening to a lot lately. At the conclusion of this colossal clip I make to return home and say that “I’ve had enough adventure for one day”. The clips that proceed this ending are of Josh recounting the specifics of his day of golfing with our friend Ray as well as a brief talk about the next possible Hall Of Fame Feat that I may preform. The episode ends with a clip I recorded in Krog St. Tunnel of two horn players of the group That Sinking Feeling. They were practicing for a show that was held within the tunnel commemorating it’s 100th anniversary of existence. They wanted to embody a sound that reflected the period of time in which it was originally erected. Read, listen and see more about it here —->

Molt

Ep 39

Some Are Wired Weird

I went to the Odd Future concert last week and lost my recorder so this will be the last Molt Episode for a little while. The clips are somewhat disjointed and don’t follow any sort of real flow but they are all the last unprocessed clips I had and this seemed like a good time to put them together. The Episode begins with a friendly conversation about aging with the boys but mostly Josh. Then a clip of yours truly from several weeks ago now followed by a short interview with Steven Abadin about micro brewing. Then a conversation that I had with a stranger who became a friend named Miles. Then another clip of myself and finally a short prayer followed by the Pledge to the Flag.

I have been really into classic music lately which is what is featured in this episode. Two of the tracks are taken from Mozart’s Requiem that he wrote to honor his father after he passed away which makes the tone and flow of the music extremely fascinating to me. And another track taken from Erik Satie.

This episode is different in structure as stated above and so it does not have any real time devoted to songs by themselves in a vacuum. All of the music comes from Jake in one way or another. All Trench Party and Ridiculous Jacket can be found, listened to and downloaded here and there.

Ep. 35

Glorious Supplementation

This is the most diverse episode to date! It begins in typical Molt fashion with the hero recounting his daily dealings whilst waiting to go alone to a comedy show at Dad’s Garage in Atlanta. Have no fear, he had a good, drunken time albeit by his lonesome! This clip is followed by a brief excerpt from the show at Dad’s Garage. Following this glimpse in to what was Friday night we jump to Sunday and find the hero talking with his friends Jake Cook and Alex Wharton before Ben’s show begins. The clip ends with the start of the music. The next segment that follows features my uncle Stephen Pararo who is a great man I respect greatly. We discuss what he views to be some of the most pressing problems in Atlanta and what can (or can’t) be done to ameliorate them to whatever degree. The episode ends with a couple comical notes. One comes from a dinner party I went to at my parent’s house and features a story about one of our family friend’s mother about a first time broiler experience gone wrong. The episode concludes (rightfully so) with my father’s beautiful voice as he tells the listener a little about David Foster Wallace and is continually interrupted in doing so by our family friend’s step-father. Listen, relax, Molt.

The music featured in this episode was all recorded by the hero at a recent show his friend and previous Moltee Ben Wills played at. The first song is by a great band that may take a few listens to digest and appreciate called Dear Rabbit and the song is called They Don’t Love the Songs. The song that follows Dear Rabbit is also from Ben’s show and is of the unknown courtesy of Casey Harper.

Ep. 34

As a Martyr of Fact!

This episode opens with a clip featuring the voice and words of Fred Wilson who I went and saw at SCAD Atlanta. I was hoping to start with some inspiring words from an artist with this episode but it turned out that Wilson’s talk mostly consisted of him talking about what he has already done more than the mental and emotional process that went into making it. The clip that opens the episode is the closest thing I could find to what I hoped to hear during his talk and it didn’t come until the very end of his talk when he was answering questions from the audience and could speak off the cuff and more candidly. The episode proceeds in classic Molt fashion with clips recalling the events of the day. The episode ends with the hero talking with his friend Ben Wills about what his current ideas for what he wants from the future are and in doing so the hero is continuing his quest to document the minds and hearts of those who are closest to him both in fondness and proximity!

The music featured in this episode is more varied than it has been in recent episodes. The first song comes at the unknowing recommendation of the Scarborough Dude, who played this song on his episode last week and inspired my use of it this week. So Says I by The Shins is next to follow and next again with The Shins is Mine’s Not a High Horse. During the clip about Jake and the Carrol St. Cafe incident, music from the Sound Healers compilation has been woven in to play during the hero’s speaking mostly for dramatic addition.

Ep. 33

The New Cambrian Revolution

This fresh episode starts out with a clip recorded at Georgia State University and is of John Legend who I heard speak February 20th. I tried to keep an ear out for anything profound and inspiring that he might have to say about life and the conclusion of his speech about the importance of education in America was a perfect note for him to end on and me to begin! Most of the clips that follow are in the classic Molt style with the hero more or less reporting his goings-on but this episode is a bit more diverse because it features a brief conversation with the hero’s father and then larger family. A more consummate glimpse into the other components that comprise the hero’s world. The final clip is a conversation between the hero and his best and most classic friend Josh Lyner (the other member of Fischer & Colmbs).

The two songs featured on this episode come from a compilation called Sound Healers Volume 1. The first song is Option Command’s Sunday Sausage and the second closing song is Sina with One I Love.

Ep. 32

Anxious Adoration

This episode should hopefully take the place of 4 that were recently lost due to the crash of my computer which happens from time to time and can’t be helped! This episode basically chronicles the content of the two days in which it was recorded and is a sort of jumping-off-point from which the American editions of Molt will follow.

Per all of my music being deleted after my hard drive’s crash, all of the music contained in and on this episode is from a recording recently made by my friend Josh Lyner and myself tentatively called Fischer & Colmbs.

Ep. 31

Infinite Availability

This is the last episode from Japan! The next episode will feature some clips from the airport that conclude the final clips of this episode but this is the last episode that contains clips all from the land of the rising pun! It begins with the hero embarking on his last travel with friends to Hakone. Next a clip is made from Dotour coffee house while waiting for his friend and fellow GSU command Alex who ends up joining the episode and talks a little bit about his passion for video games. The last clips were captured at the airport waiting for his flight from Haneda airport Japan. Reflective, contemplative and a little drunk is how the episode ends…

All music from this episode is pulled from The Flaming Lips’ album The Soft Bulletin and are featured in this order: Race for the Prize, A Spoonful Weighs a Ton, The Spark that Blend, and Waitin’ for a Superman.

Ep. 29

Ain’t No Worrin’n

Let the show begin! And begin it does from a frigid and snowy part of Tokyo where Studio Coast is located, the venue that hosted Fleet Foxes! From the concert clip the show jumps to the day after and follows the hero on a rainy walk home from school and a recap of the show! Hear the pitter-patter. When the evening is arrived the hero heads to a local Konbini hitori de osake kau tame ni. The last clip is from the 22nd of January as the hero walks to Eki Mae to meet with Maksym for coffee, a little shopping and a lot of laughs. It is a preamble for the clip that will be featured first in Ep. 30 when the hero recounts his first and last Japanese church experience with Remya.

Continuing with my recent topple into the vast and new world of all that Ben Folds has done in the past 5 or so years the music included in this show is from Ben Fold’s album Lonely Avenue. The songs respectively are From Above, Levi Johnston’s Blues, Doc Pomus, Claire’s Ninth, and Password.

Ep. 28

Innate Magic

This episode begins with a clip from Stabaa (as the Japanese say) where the hero begins the lamentation of his great journey beginning to approach a visible end. The clip begins a little slowly due to the awkwardness of speaking to one’s self in close proximity public space, though per usual the hero overcomes and finds his stride. The next clip picks up after a short study session preceding the final exam. In this clip the hero mostly talks about why he loves Ben Folds (which should partially explain the music selection for this episode. The Final clip is mostly addressed the Da Boize after receiving a clip from them this past week catching me up on 6 months of time in less than 30 minutes! The most important thing in this clip is the emphasis that I do in fact and have greatly enjoyed and loved my time here in Japan and despite my written efforts that have portrayed my feelings to be the opposite, I truly love Japan affectionately enough to deride and berate it. Go figure, huh?

This episode features music from the Ben Folds album Ben Folds Presents: University A Cappella! It’s a great album of several universities that recorded Ben Folds songs A Cappella (as the name suggests). Boxing, Army, Effington, and Brick appear respectively in Innate Magic.

During the walk the conversation is destinationless but it is the unknowing impetus that inspired what will be my next travel destination in Japan… Mt. Fuji.

Osaka

It’s all about Kansai. This episode features clips taken before, after, and during my recent trip to the west coast, Kansai area of Japan. While in Kansai I traveled with a group of other students to three cities; Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara, I wasn’t able record much of the actual travel itself per se but I did what I could when I could. This episode is the first part of 3 about the trip. This episode is more about the trip during the trip and the other 2 to follow are more about the trip on reflecting.

This episode features music from Amp live: Video Tapez (thanks to Hide), Gorrilaz: El Mañana, Wilco: I Must Be High, andThe Weepies: Hard To Please.

Ep 16

Christmas Coffee Logic

This episode features a conversation between Anh (from Vietnam), Quick (from Hong Kong), Maksym (from Ukraine) and our faithful hero. The conversation is held in a Starbucks on Christmas day and captures a good-hearted talk between friends who have come from all over the world with various cultures and languages but still preserve enough common, shared humanity to share a laugh and on Christmas too, nonetheless. The conversation is natural and disjointed with no destination or starting point but it was beautiful in its own merit.

Music features Anthony Hamilton, Nujabes, and ends with The Beatles.

Ep. 15

In Medias Res

This episode is a conglomerate. The first clip is a (bad quality) small interview with Alex and is followed by what took place early on Christmas day. Alex, Brett, Anh, Quick, Maksym and I biked to an Anime shrine in Hachioji and there met a few Asian English speakers from Australia (small world). After losing Alex and Brett at different times in transit to and from the Anime shrine Anh, Quick, Maksym and myself found ourselves at the top of the Tokyu Square building sharing a few words and beer. The episode ends with a clips of just me recorded the day before, on Christmas Eve and seemed fitting to be placed at the end of the episode to kind of tie everything together in a way… To bring the focus back to me and a singular track of thinking.

Music featuring Elliot Smith, Fleet Foxes, Iron & Wine and Sufjan Stevens.

Molt

Ep. 14

Alexander On Want One

The Christmas Eve episode! Another long day on the river, this episode chronicles a 2-part walk taken as means to escape looming boredom in favor of getting out into the light of day and enjoying. The first walk is a simple grocery run but the second is a more exciting route to faithful ekimae via Asakawa. This episode was intended to contain one more clip but the episode was complete enough with just these segments so the conclusion will have to be saved for the next episode. Fuji looked beautiful today. I stood on a pedestrian overpass and just marveled at its size and beauty nearly oblivious to the bone-chilling cold. I stood there staring upon glory shorts and all.

Music by Wilco, William Shatner, and Zero 7.
