The earthquakes in Reno & Verdi are getting a old. Reading reports how a 6.0 could hit within the next 10 days has me rolling my eyes in my head. No one can predict earthquakes just like my eyes never got stuck rolling them up in my head even though my friends told me they would.
I’m rolling them 1 more time and crossing them after typing this just to make sure.

I’m a GI brat, growing up on military bases throughout the country.  I watched one of the nations leading journalist, Walter Cronkite nightly as a kid.  His voice was comforting as we gathered around the television watching faces of young men in vietnam, hoping our father would pop up in the background or in an interview.   Walter Cronkite was like family because he spoke out loud what a lot of people think but might not say out loud.

I was laying in bed last night when the 4.7 earthquake hit.  First I thought it was a dream when I heard something mumble below than felt the rolling sensation.  Fascinated, scared and excited  I rolled over and said calmly to my husband, “We had an earthquake.”  He continued to snore.  Laying there waiting to see if another would hit I waited 10 minutes and woke him up to tell him about it.  “Did you see that fish jump in the canoe?” he asked.  

A little envious that he can’t hear that well and has awesome dreams of catching big fish with his hands and the luck of fish jumping in boats, I went back to sleep until he woke at 2a.m. to go to the bathroom.  I sat up and told him about the earthquake, he smiled and said “I love you, (and something about the canoe)”,   drifting back to sleep.

This morning while pouring a cup of coffee, my husband informed me we had an earthquake last night that hit the headlines.   

I think for the hell of it, I’m going to toilet paper him while he sleeps tonight. 

Alaska is going to be here before we know it.  I’m looking forward to taking photos of the glaciers, skies, people and rainforest.    There is so much to do but really, the glaciers are what I’m looking forward to.  Friends have told us that chunks of ice, the size of cars are falling constantly and the sound of ice crashing in the water is hard to explain.  I feel like a kid again…..is it almost here?

On another note, I was devastated to read Weethumps article on Evans Ranch  Development, which  was approved by Reno City Council.  (horrible decison plus other things under my breath)  I like the headline “Hasn’t Reno heard about foreclosures?”  I’m also confused with keeping our city green, mostly the vehicle part.  Evans Ranch is a long ways to be riding a bike to work but with that many cars commuting who would want to breath the fumes? 

Now, I’m just rambling…..think of the things involved and the traffic just getting started.  Will it be City water and sewer or wells & septic tanks?  Will there be a hospital and malls?   There are plenty of empty places in strip malls right here.   Bears, coyotes & racoons are a problem in our own backyards, when do we stop pushing the wildlife out?  Crud, why do we have to keep stretching out when there are enough homes for sale here?

The Grand Prix at Virginia City is this weekend, Saturday & Sunday.  Last year we attended and witnessed some of the most exciting turns off the main street entering the course.  The weather was beautiful, the crowd the largest we’ve seen in years.   Looking at their site, there are over 550 riders registered so far. 

As most know, Virginia City is a great place to people watch too. 

We were invited to our first bad taste party.  One of the guest made their own label for the wine, which was never opened.

I’ve been on this eating healthier mode. Less meat, more veges & fruit, organic is better for you kick. A few days ago I did jello shots and it was an excuse to pig out on everything in site. Oh my god, a chocolate chip cookie “hey did you ever take a cookie and spread peanut butter on and slap another cookie on top.” Snort, mmmmm. Shortly afterwards, I proceeded to clean out the fridge by mouth instead of trash, pasta sounds good oh and chopped up papaya with onions and tomatoes. Within 2 hours of binge eating, I sat there thinking “What’s up with that?”

Instead of beating myself up, I decided a day of bingeing was okay. I only put on a pound, damn it, that’s okay I’ll get back to the kick tomorrow. This morning as I was organizing my list, Nevadaboy said “Not another week of lowfat vomit shit.” I said, “Let’s improvise. Every other week will be one or the others choice for grocery’s.” I don’t buy lowfat, it’s just sometimes I don’t look at the label.

NB eats pretty healthy anyway, but since he’s in chronic pain from a bike accident, the shot of tequila he prefers at bedtime instead of painkillers should be a good reason to live a longer healthier life. He quit smoking last year, how hard could this be. Deal!!

He sat in the car while I strolled through Whole Foods. I hate grocery shopping so small places are great for me. I started tossing in a variety of fruits, veges, grained fed meat, tempeh and a Celebration roast. Half way through, NB strolls in with a grin on his face. The grin of….everybody is a hippie in here grin. While loading up the bags, NB says “I can’t wait to get out of here.” The clerk smiles and tells him “oh it’s just a matter of time before you’re converted.” Once I converted, my fibermyalgia got better.

Okay back to the story.

What’s a Celebration roast? Well good question. Two people VERY close to me who are vegetarians keep raving about the roast. I found it so Tuesday we’re going to have it for dinner. The idea? To have a wonderful mouth watering ribeye Monday night and than a Celebration roast Tuesday to see if Nevadaboy notices. The ingredients in the roast is unbleached organic wheat flour, yellow pea flour, organic wheat flakes, lentils butternut squash, apples, mushrooms, red wine, carrots and spices. The giveaway will be a) a few trips to the bathroom the next morning b) the consistency of no meat or c) the dog won’t even eat it. I CAN’T WAIT!!!

Well that’s it. Back to eating better, no guilt just fun new recipes. Can’t wait for Tuesday night though.
