The universe is all about energy. We see this energy in a lightning and thunderstorm. Energy in all its forms must be flowing instead of stuck if it is to work in a positive way. We are supposed to be channels, not depositories, of the different forms of energy.

Air has to flow in and out of our lungs. Blood has to flow unrestricted through our arteries and veins. Food must flow uninterrupted through our stomachs and intestines. If any of these channels gets clogged or blocked, we get toxic, polluted and sick. If a stream of water gets blocked, it will become polluted and the fish will die. The same is true in our mind, heart and soul. Here is how it works.

When we eat the wrong foods, use drugs or alcohol in excess, or have little exercise to keep our muscles strong and nerves healthy, the body becomes toxic and begins to break down. Then the next thing that goes is the mind. We develop hunger and a feeling of lack. If you don’t feed a baby, it will become angry and let you know.

Now a war is going on internally, and a peaceful life is virtually impossible. The anger then creates fear and anxiety, which stems from a feeling of lack of safety. The hunger and fear then create sadness and depression. Now the mind has become toxic.

This is what keeps the pharmaceutical companies in business, making little colorful pills to numb the sadness, anxiety or hunger instead of removing the cause. This is the world of quick fixes. Living this outer physical, mental toxic life robs us of our divine heritage of peace, love, health, abundance and happiness. Why? Because these things don’t live in the mind, they live in the heart, but they are blocked and inaccessible.

How can this toxic existence be changed? It is fixable. The secret is to develop the courage to turn away from the outer self-destructive ways and begin to follow and open the heart.

The heart is the inner child. It is our original self. We all start out as children then add the adult parts as we grow up. The supreme secret is to begin to take care of your own emotional life first. There are many blessings that come from opening up the heart like this. First, it opens and makes available the energy and light inside the soul. Your “channel of truth (spirit)” is now accessible and flowing. The visions, inspirations, fantasies and dreams sleeping inside the soul are now awakened. These are the inner muses who love to make you happy. Let them and you inner child begin to be less hungry, scared or sad.

This nurturing begins to pop new ideas, “ahas,” and inspirations into the mind. Now the mind is finding new happiness and better ways to live. The new, positive ideas begin to replace the toxic thoughts and things being fed into the body. Give thanks to the universe. Your life has been set free. Everything is flowing again. Your health is improving. Your mind is happier. Love and family relationships strongly improve. And the greatest is the gratitude you now feel for the sanctity of life. Give thanks every day. The deep well of abundance living inside you since birth has been brought out and set free.

Take care of your own and family first. Next, give back to those who inspired and encouraged you on your path. Help them continue on their way. The theme running through each of the four is that true purpose and fulfillment in our individual lives can only happen fully when we grow weary of the outer lower, physical mental existence based on hunger, anger, fear, guilt and sadness and begin to search for a deeper meaning and a way out of the jungle of earthly ego, compulsions, addictions, enslavements and attachments.

The first step is when we begin to take the emotional and spiritual inner journey and find ways to impress the true desires of what we want upon the sub-conscious mind that we start the process of finding relief from the earthly suffering and hunger.

This process has little to do with wealth, privilege, education, experience, blood, fame or power. It has everything to do with surrender of the ego and lower will and finding patience, trust and faith in the universal and higher will by whatever name you call the higher power of creation. Then asking it to work for you and through you and show your true purpose and road to victory over the lower hungry way.

We didn’t come into this life to struggle all the time. We came into this life to find victory over the lower nature and live a life filled with an abundance of the higher spiritual gifts.

Second is to find our true calling and create a life of love, peace, health, abundance, faith, joy, creativity and freedom. This is our divine heritage as children of the creator, regardless of earthly belief or philosophy.

The third step is to begin to sow new seeds and create new causes. We can’t change what has already happened. Learn from the past, release it and move on to create a new and better life. Mother Earth teaches this principle in the law of the circle and the seasons.

The fourth is what we do when we see the harvest and positive increase coming. It starts with feeling worthy to receive our blessing without fear or guilt.

This week’s column, part4, is about how to distribute the increase given us by spirit in the most efficient manner.

There are five parts to consider. First is the gift of life itself. The first thing we should do upon awakening each day is give thanks that we are alive. Then give gratitude for all we have been given, no matter how much or how little of anything we actually have.

Now for the distribution of the blessings. There are four steps to this process. The universe loves the power of tenfold return. When you make $100, the first $10 belongs to spirit. It is the seed money for the planting of the next year’s crop. The main reason for poverty in the world is the lack of understanding of, trust in and use of this principle. It’s called tithing in churches. The principle is when we give 10 percent we get 100 percent back. More on this next week.

Then give the next 10 percent to yourself. Invest in yourself for future security. Next, pay your earthly bills and taxes.

Finally, if there is money left, buy your bling and fancy toys. The majority of people buy the bling first (except Hometown News readers, of course).

When this distribution method is used, a miracle and true magic begins to happen. The need for earthly extravagance begins to lessen and the emphasis grows stronger on the spiritual and human aspects of help.

Isn’t this the way you truly want to live. You can do it. Thanks for listening. You have greatness living in your soul since birth. Take the plunge. How do we apply the principle of influence to help create new and better ways of living?

The first is to release the past of negative thoughts, feelings, ideas and actions that waste our time, money and energy. Then, knowing and believing that no matter what has happened to us in the past, we can create new life and causes and move forward rather than be stuck, sidetracked or lost in the world.

This requires that we take a dream or inspired idea and make a commitment and a plan for change. Then take action to transform the idea into a reality. After realizing the success take time to celebrate the victory. Then repeat it all over again. Living a changing, growing, beautiful, happy life is your destiny and true purpose.

Here is the next step in the process.

There are several areas of life that you may want to improve upon. First, know that we can’t change the past. What has been created has been created, whether the final outcome was positive or negative. The promise of a better tomorrow is that we can use. The master secret is to create a new cause and zero back in on our goals and dreams. The most important areas we should focus on are spiritual growth, health, love, children and family, our future, work, home, vehicles and other earthly possessions, education, artistic expression, leisure time, friends and relationships with others, world visions, the environment and other humanistic causes.

For any kind of positive change to occur, we must create time, devotion and commitment to our new cause. This “inner” process begins by first learning how to relax the “outer” body and mind, reduce stress and refocus. This requires deep breathing. Take 10 deep breaths. The extra oxygen that is gained over shallow breathing puts more oxygen in the blood. This relaxes the mind and body and helps focus on the goal at hand, which is to influence the subconscious mind.

One of the very best ways to achieve this inner direction is to use the “Ben Franklin” approach.

In your notebook or desire journal draw a vertical line down the center of the page. Write the name of the area of life that you wish to change at the top of the page. Then, on the left side, make a list of all the positives being done now to increase the growth of that idea. On the right side make a list of the negative conditions that would limit or restrict positive growth from happening. Go through every area of life from the above list that you wish the master secret to work on.

Next, write down the top priorities first. When we write it down, we make a contract with spirit. When we don’t write these vital things down, it is usually a sign of fear of commitment. This process will quickly tell you where and what your fears are and why you are blocked or stuck. Then sign the contract, date it with today’s date and then write down a reasonable date for its completion.

The third step is to speak the commitment out loud.

The verbal affirmation sends the vibration out to the universe and spirit world. Now ask spirit, by whatever name you call the higher power, to bring you the manifestation of the desire and give it physical birth and appearance.

When this step is taken, you will begin to see any number of earthly restrictions try to pull you away from the new cause and sidetrack you from your dream. The written commitment and contract with spirit is the tool that pulls you back and refocuses your vision. Without it, we usually stay sidetracked or stuck because we lack the strength to overcome the worldly pull and we end up going sideways rather than forward.

My greatest desire is that you are able to see and use this powerful tool of commitment to create a new and better life for yourself and those you love. You can do it. The desire has been inside your heart and spirit since birth, yearning to be set free. No one can do it for you but you. Your future life and happiness depend on it.

It will be about how to celebrate the victory over life and use the new found gains in ways that the universe will continue to bless and increase in your life for all your future days. The master secret of the ages is that we have the power living within us to influence our sub-conscious mind and create a life of purpose, love, peace, health, abundance, faith, joy, creativity and freedom from want. It’s called the spiritual path.

Inside the soul of every human on earth is the desire to find it and set it free. True spirituality is the struggle to overcome the experience of separating the lower and higher natures and bringing the two halves together to live in peace and harmony with ourselves.

It is an individual process that allows us to find wholeness and oneness within ourselves and then connect with the universal source and honor it in others.

This is our true humanity and the path of light spoken of and revered by most of the great teachers and philosophers over the ages. Finding it is the most priceless of treasures and should be No. 1 priority of every living soul. If we lived by this divine guidance and accepted it as our birthright and heritage as children of the supreme creative power, there would be little need for hate, war, disease, poverty, fear, sadness or enslavement to addiction or quick fixes.

There is a way to find this ageless secret. It begins with accepting the fact that you are a spiritual being right now. The hunger we feel inside isn’t so much for earthly cravings, as much as it is for finding and feeding our spirit, then passing the torch and helping others find their light and truth.

We don’t have to do anything to be spiritual. We just have to accept the fact that we already are and let our dreams, visions and inspirations guide us and keep us on the path of balance, focus and surrender of the ego. The key is just to be human and as fully ourselves as we can be. It is more important to be than to do. It is more important to do than to have. We have to believe before we can achieve. We don’t have to prove ourselves, we need to accept ourselves.

Everyone should plant seeds and grow different forms of life. Mother Earth is our greatest teacher about the true nature of the master secret. She is the giver of second chances.

Through the law of the circle and the seasons, she says if the effects of the past are unsatisfactory, release the accumulated trash and negativity to make room for new growth, sow new seeds and move on and grow a new cause and life.

In a garden we plant the seeds, water them, cover them up and surrender them to the universal power. We don’t grow the crop, spirit does. The surrender creates patience, trust and faith in the higher power. The key word is surrender.

How does this apply to our lives? When you get a good idea of something you want, first, visualize it. See it in your mind’s eye. Then write it down. This is like making a contract or commitment with spirit. Then speak the desire out loud. This sends the request out to spirit. Then ask the universe to bring you the materialization or physical manifestation of the vision.

Our job, then, is to watch for signs the idea has been blessed by the creator, and the roots are being fed by the source. Nothing grows without the blessing of the roots. This is true of flowers in a garden, a child in a mother’s womb or people, events and things we desire in life.

This is the master secret of the ages at work. The key is to first put faith and trust in spirit, not in people or the world. This is an awesome power living in every one of us and yet seldom used or fulfilled. Go inside, take the plunge, get to know this vast power and use it to fulfill your destiny. Bring it out and set it free.

You can do it. You were born to do it. No one else can do it for you. It lives in your soul.

Inside the soul of every infant is a genius, a purpose and a destiny that few ever truly find. Why is this so? Because we too often look outside ourselves to the world and others rather than finding ways to go inside the heart and spirit, bring out our greatness and set it free. A beautiful butterfly yearning to be set free lives in the soul of every caterpillar crawling in the garden. The same applies to ourselves.

The next four “Spirit Guide” columns will be devoted to this very special purpose.

The question I hear more than any other is “How can I find my true purpose in life and be happy?” Life is based on the principle of cause and effect. Happiness is the effect of creating a useful purpose in life.

Every one of us can bring love, peace, health, abundance, faith, joy and creativity into our own. Living a spiritual-based life in the light should be the No. 1 goal. The process starts by learning how to contact and release the hidden power of the subconscious mind.

There are many books about how to do this, but few are able to fully describe the process so that it is easy to understand how to manifest the full beauty and potential of the spirit. We don’t have to acquire this power. We already possess it. Our job is to learn how to understand and use it so we can apply it to all phases of our lives.

If you look around, you will see that the majority of people live in an outer-directed world based on earthly possessions and power. We are always hungry for more. There is never enough to satisfy the hunger. This kind of life eventually creates pain and suffering because of the imbalance, and we begin to rely on quick fixes like food, drugs, alcohol, gambling and other items of the flesh to give us temporary relief.

Watch television in the evening, and you will see and hear of dozens of quick fixes claiming to temporarily numb out the pain and suffering. The fact is that none of these remove the cause of the discomfort, so it always returns once the medication wears off. The real hunger comes from our soul that yearns to be nurtured and made to feel safe and happy.

The true path of enlightenment begins when we exhaust the outer ways and end up stuck, sidetracked, burned out or lost in life. Enlightened people are intensely interested in the inner world. It is usually the last place we look for the answers to true and lasting freedom and happiness.

Hermes, an ancient Egyptian philosopher created a saying, “As above so below.” This means that every manifested form starts with an idea in the universal mind before it becomes a physical reality. The inner universe consists of thoughts, feelings and visions that come through the mind, heart and soul. When we learn the interaction of these powerful tools and energy and how to use them, we have discovered the master secret of the ages and with practice are enabled to transform our lives and enjoy the blessings of abundance wherever we choose to focus.

Just remember that the cause lives in the heart and soul. The effects live in the physical, mental side. We can’t change the external conditions of what has already happened, but we can create new causes.

Most people try to change the circumstances and conditions of what has already happened. To permanently remove discord, confusion, lack and limitation, we must remove the cause of these conditions instead of trying to numb out the effects. This is done by creating a new cause.

We can cut off a weed in the yard or garden near the ground, and it will grow right back, usually stronger than ever. Why? Because we didn’t dig out the roots. Our lives are the same.

Next week, in part two, we will take a look at the inner workings of the subconscious and super-conscious minds. They were created to help us on our journey through life. All we have to do is make peace within ourselves, surrender our own lower will and ask our higher will to bring us our greatest desires. You can do it.
