One thing wins you an instant ‘please ignore this person’ reaction from any potential employer; lack of direction and focus. When searching for jobs in Kenya, this works against you even worse than not having a CV with tangible experience on it.

What is lack of direction and focus and how do you show it?

Lack of direction is a display of ignorance of what you want out of life, or better yet, showing that you have no idea what sort of jobs in Kenya you are looking for. If you believe nothing else I ever say, please believe that this answer will never work for you.

Question: what job are you looking for?

Answer: anything!

I have talked about it before in this post, but I still get this answer out there. The challenge in that answer is that is puts the personal you are speaking to in an uncomfortable position of thinking for you. No one is that kind or willing to help.

I understand that you sincerely may not know the kind of jobs in Kenya that you are looking for, but please have an idea of at least what you can do. It is a show of lack of direction.

The argument I hear from some people is that the reason they give this answer is because they do not have any certificate, they are still in college, so how can they say what kind of job they want?

Well, then, why are you looking for a job if you have all those things that you believe hinder you from getting a job?

The wiser way to go at to find jobs in Kenya is this.

Question: What kind of a job in Kenya are you looking for?

Answer: I am in college, doing a course in … and I would like to work in a place that helps me gain better understanding of the work environment for my skills.

That answer will more likely get you more attention any day. Keep that ‘anything’ answer OUT of your vocabulary.

————————–

Still in college or University?

To better understand and immediately find a job even before you leave college, pick a copy of Operation Find a Job Fast. It will change your job history for life.

Life takes on the form of the dominant emotional thought pattern of the individual. If I was to make reference to finding jobs in Kenya, I would say your search for jobs will unfold in the precise format of the dominant thoughts you hold believingly or consistently about finding a job.

That statement elicits a lot of debate with two extreme schools of thought. One school says it is simply impossible for they have experienced things they have never even thought of. The other school of thought says, yes, it is an absolute truth, and in fact we are the absolute makers of all the experiences we face. Everything we go through including natural disasters and wars are all our fault.

I wasn’t always keen on the study of personal awareness until I decided I was tired of living mediocre and of having just enough results. Then I started to ask questions and I was soon face to face with the reality of Mind Mastery as a surprising truth.

I nevertheless do not belong to either school of thought, for each school ignores plenty in order to hold their position. I however will not enter into the debate for that is not the point of this article. What I will assure you though is one thing; that you do have a significant role in shaping the results of your life and you power that role through your mind.

What you give consistent attention to in your mind will come to you

Your contribution to your life rests squarely on your ability to harness your thought world. God (whoever you perceive Him or It to be) is perfectly consistent, clear and simple and the only variant is man himself. Therefore, if following the Law, you keep your part of the deal, the part of the Divine is always assured.

If you keep thoughts of ‘there are no jobs in Kenya’ primary on your mind, then no jobs in Kenya can come to you.

In direct contrast is that, if you keep thoughts of ‘there is a job available for me in Kenya’ primary on your mind, a job will make itself available for you right here in Kenya.

I really do not care to understand how that works, in much the same way that I do not care to understand how water through a turbine transforms to the light bulb in my room. All I know is that it works all the time, with precision.

There is heavy interplay between your daily thoughts and your daily results. That Law works all of the time for all people everywhere, no matter what their faith, colour, political affiliation or linguistic community is.

Mind Mastery is a skill like driving or playing a musical instrument

I have met enough people to know that there is a large population on the streets in every corner of this country that want to convince others that Mind Mastery is a teaching of some foreign religions.

I would agree with them if we did not have a linguistic equivalent in our local languages which for me always effectively negates that ‘foreign anything’ that we so enjoy in Kenya. There are common references to the power of the mind in all Kenyan linguistic communities, and in Kiswahili too.

Mind mastery is a human skill, much like learning how to ride a bicycle or play a musical instrument. You repeat the actions, and repeat, and repeat them until they become second nature. Then we say you now know how to ride a bicycle or play the guitar.

That is why the practice or discipline of Mind Mastery should be of primary significance to you if you are serious about finding jobs in Kenya. You will not win on the outside, if your mind is in a state of ‘not winning’.

May your personal plan to finding jobs in Kenya be successful!

Perception or the way we see our world usually determines the way that world unfolds before us. If you are sad and discouraged, you are more likely to attract events, people and situations that will leave you feeling sad and discouraged. Thus the saying, misfortunes never come singly. But when you are upbeat about the potentials, then your world starts to give you more potential. That is the way to make your job search easily bring you a job.

Mind Mastery is the one way known to man, outside of unnatural methods like hypnosis and the likes, that will enable you to always be in control of what you think about.

This is an important habit on the one hand because it means you can keep discouragement at bay, and on the other hand because it enables you to be an active participant in shaping your world.

Keeping discouragement at bay through Mind Mastery

Kenya has a significantly high jobs competition and that is not in question. But the other thing that fuels this unnaturally high competition is that there are too many people focussed on the lack of jobs and thus we as a collective people are not ‘creating’ new jobs.

With the numbers focussed on lack of jobs, then it goes without much challenge that it is easier to find information on how there are no jobs than how there are jobs that can happen for you.

That means, for the new entrant and the long time job seeker, you are more easily bombarded with discouraging information that with encouraging information.

The nature of the Earth we live in is this; if your inner state of mind is discouraged then you are likely to attract things that make you more discouraged and things that will keep you in that state of discouragement. So it becomes a vicious cycle where the discouraged job seeker either get lousy paying jobs, jobs where they are disrespected or are dimply always searching for a job.

Now the practice of Mind Mastery will help you hear those discouraging thought and consciously choose to think other thoughts and energise your encouragement from the inside rather than allow it to be fuelled into discouragement from the outside.

Mind Mastery will enable you shape your world

The primary focus of Mind Mastery is to help you choose your perspectives and perspectives in the search for job sin Kenya are incredibly important.

The mind that thinks, ‘there is such high jobs competition in Kenya’ everyday and the mind that thinks ‘there is a job for me‘ are simply not playing in the same league.

The second mind, and by extension the eyes of the person who thinks the second thought consistently is far more likely to find a job sooner than the first thinker.

The all important work in that last paragraph is consistently.

In the exercise and practice of Mind Mastery, consistency is the key that will open the door to your inner power. You need to think a thought consistently enough to enable it to follow the Law of Nature and gain its physical equivalent.

The person who thinks that ‘there is a job for me’ will find circumstances, people, resources, opportunities and all things needed to make that one job that they believe exists come into their world.

That then is where Mind Mastery will help you in finding jobs in Kenya. The more you control and take charge of the thoughts that you are thinking often, then the more likely you are to be able to ignore discouragement, and you eyes will naturally open up to those opportunities that are around you.

You do not need fancy service providers to open your eyes to see the opportunities for jobs in Kenya that are all over the place. You only need to understand the power of your mind, learn to harness it, and the rest, your Creator through no added effort on your part, will bring into being.

It is the Law of the Earth, you need nothing more and nothing less than understanding to use it powerfully to your advantage.

We often judge quiet thoughtfulness as sadness because most of us, unless we come face to face with a real life challenge, are not given to listening to our inner selves. Yet the people who have best life results, are those who have made quiet thoughtfulness a way of life. If you can harness and be in control of the thoughts you allow to pass through your mind daily, your ability to both see and take your job opportunities in Kenya, will be as assured as the sun is sure to rise tomorrow morning.

The nature of our up-bringing in Kenya for the largest part does not allow an individual to tamper in the world of introspection. We often judge quiet thoughtfulness as sadness and depression.

In fact, human beings as a whole, unless they come face to face with a real life challenge, are not given to listening to their heart, their inner selves and the stuff that goes on within.

Yet the people who touch the lives of others the most are those who have made quiet thoughtfulness a way of life. Artists, powerful musicians and men and women of superior genius are such people. Usually, before they hit the charts or the galleries with breathtaking inspiration, we assume they are weirdoes and a bit eccentric.

Quiet thoughtfulness is a practice of men and women of purpose

Men and women of purpose and subsequently of great achievements are not often inclined toward endless chatter and noise. Even when they are of a highly choleric and energetic nature, they will always find time in their day dedicated to silent introspection.

It is those moments of silence that the soul of man or woman is enabled to touch base with their Source and find direction quite away from the noise and advert-filled world they live in.

Different religious teachings will give different names to this practice, but it is a universal teaching amongst all men in all languages.

What then is silent introspection and what has that got to do with your search for jobs in Kenya?

Quiet thoughtfulness will open your eyes in a way nothing else will

The natural human mind right from the day that one comes to this earth starts to train to see this and that and the other. Watch an infant’s eyes in a room as they lie helplessly alone. Their eyes do not stick in any one position; they keep moving about watching numerous things. I am sometimes tempted to think they are privy to a world we become blind to as we age. But then, I digress.

As we grow we learn to give little attention to one thing before quickly moving our minds to the next thing. This mental habit is the single most destructive one to your personal success.

The mind in its simplest form is that part of the brain that enables you to process various stimuli. It enables you to process light, sound, sight, touch and all other physical impulses, and make meaning of them. However, there is another role of the mind that common talk does not refer much to that you can only link into through silent introspection.

That mind is the one that enables you to sift out complex stimuli which we then lightly refer to as decisions. It also enables you to decipher complex unseen stimuli which we then casually refer to as opportunities. We call that mind the unconscious mind.

I will not go into technical details of the conscious and unconscious mind, but I will detail one thing; directly governing the extent of any man’s success or failure is the wiring of their unconscious mind.

Every impulse, every thought we repeat to ourselves often, every mental view held long enough all go into wiring your subconscious mind and ultimately determines your daily choices and your daily perceptions of opportunity.

Train your mind to see jobs in Kenya and jobs in Kenya will come to you

Sometimes I have no choice but to snigger inside when I hear the Practice of Mind Mastery shot down by religious teachers. I once held a seminar on ‘the way to personal achievement.’ One participant who was an ardent follower of a particular faith asked me, ‘are you not teaching a new faith?’

No! I am not teaching a new faith; I am simply saying in different words what you will read everyday in whatever religious book you choose to use; your mind is the centre of all the work that the Divine will ever carry out in your life.

If you can but harness and be in control of the thoughts you allow to pass through your mind daily, then your success, and your ability to both see and take your job opportunities in Kenya, will be as assured as the sun is sure to rise tomorrow morning.

A nation that is not at war, and where the government does not actively regulate the activities of individual citizens, is a nation full of opportunities. Your job opportunities in Kenya are only limited by the choice you make on where you will keep your gaze. A slight shift in your gaze will put you where you will start to find jobs in Kenya coming at you with increased ease. How can you identify where your gaze is? How can you move your gaze to where the opportunities are?

In our generation, science, religion, and superstition have come together to speak in one voice. They all agree, though they may use different words, that the seat of human potential is within the individual. If a person is broken within, no matter how good their outward opportunities seem to the rest of the world, that broken individual can neither see nor appreciate them.

I see that a lot in Kenya. Some years back, I was honoured to play host to a group of seminar participants from one of the North African Countries. These fellows were beside themselves with excitement. They could not believe that there was so much opportunity in any one single country. Where were they seeing the opportunity? The opportunities to them lay in the definite disinterest of the government in the affairs of the individual.

Strangely, the very thing that appeared as potential to them, is the very thing many Kenyans define as the problem. If you choose to see your world aright, the possibilities of what you can do with your life within legal parameters in Kenya is limited only by YOUR IMAGINATION.

Why do we believe so much in ‘not enough’?

If you are born and bred Kenyan like I am, you were like most of us brought up on a diet of limitations. We believe more and faster in what we cannot achieve than in what we can achieve. It starts from home with parents (whose noble intention was protection) telling us of all the possible things we should not do if we desire to be unhurt.

Do not run; you may fall.

Do not climb that tree; you might break your leg.

Do not remove your sweater; you may catch a cold.

All these limit-based guidelines reinforce a deep appreciation for limiteations. This is fully strengthened through school as the much hyped 8+4+4 Education system does not give room for nor inculcate high life values and Life Skills such as courage, concentration, creativity, determination, clarity, effective communication skills and the like.

We live convinced that very little of what life has to offer is within personal reach which makes our personal expectations of the good in life seriously low.

That would not be a problem if deep within you did not live with the nagging feeling that you are worth and capable of so much more.

How you can change the script to give you a wider jobs net

When I was first started out to run my own business, I would get very frustrated speaking with other business people. They would say things like, ‘there is such an opportunity there’. I was frustrated because I honestly could not see the opportunity ‘there’ at all.

I soon realised that I needed a different eye to see my world that I had not used in my employee days. So I started speaking to myself differently.

Every day, as often as I would remember, I would tell myself; I see opportunities for expanding business all around me. Within a couple of days, I actually did see an opportunity that had been there all along that I had honestly never considered before.

Then, as I continued with this script, my vision expanded. Within a year, I would see opportunity in the most amazing of places. Do not be deceived, your world is full of opportunity only limited by your inner vision.

How can you utilise this in your search for jobs in Kenya?

First, make a mental decision that ‘there are no jobs in Kenya’ is a lie.

Second, tell yourself, daily and as often as you remember in the course of the say, ‘there is a job available for me. I will soon meet the people and the chance to take it up’.

Third, decide to quench any inner voice of doubt. How difficult is it I ask, to find one job in Kenya for just the one you? The only thing that limits you is the choice to look more at the competition for jobs in Kenya. That way you are more aware of the lack of jobs than the opportunity standing right before your eyes.

That is why I strongly recommend that you use your time by being your primary job search expert, because no corporation or service provider can see your world as well as you can. There is where and how to locate a job in Kenya and it lies in the ability of your eyes to see the opportunities.

Though being nervous is considered a normal challenge, it works badly for you when you are looking for jobs in Kenya. Potential employers do not often have the time or the patience to listen to a blubbering, incoherent job-seeker. So if you are nervous enough to make you incoherent you need to start solving that nervousness fast as it will cost you a job in Kenya. Learning to be clear and articulate may be the little key you need to find jobs in Kenya. How do you build that self confidence?

So now you are out of college and on the streets looking for a job in Kenya. To start with, you have just landed in a world that is significantly different in its rules from the world of school and college.

In school and in college or university, when you cannot clearly articulate, or say what is on your mind people look you in the eye and patiently listen. If not, they simply ignore you but that does not cost you a potential important opportunity.

Not so in the jobs world in Kenya. Here, when you cannot say your piece clearly, people will not give you a patient hearing and they will indeed ignore you. But this time, when they do ignore you, it costs you a serious potential opportunity not to mention one that you are keenly looking for.

Nerves; a common confidence problem

Being nervous is a common reason why many people fail to clearly articulate what they can do. They can be normal, easy going people amongst their friends, but suddenly become blubbering and unclear the minute they are before a person they perceive to be of importance.

The person of importance, by the way, is often described by the individual themselves and that can often be guided by pure imagination.

I have an experience years back when I had a government job in Kenya that amuses me to date. One of the perks of the job was a government parastatal vehicle attached to my office. When you have a government vehicle at your disposal, you are given the vehicle and a driver.

Due to the nature of my assignment, even when the designated vehicle was not available, I would be assigned one from the pool of the senior officers whenever I had an errand to run on behalf of the institution. In the government, it is common practice to sit back-left of these vehicles.

Entering government departments was always hilarious. The officers in various offices, including very senior government staff as compared to my position, would almost fall over themselves saluting this ‘mdosi ‘ (boss) that has been dropped in ‘a big car’.

It was even more hilarious when I sought to find something out. It was like a ripple effect; from the askari (security officer) at the entrance, I would get standing ovation right to the office I was heading to. Ah! Some people would even stammer as they tried to answer a simple question.

I was certain that if these same people met me in my usual self, without the ‘big car’ syndrome confusing their perceptions, they likely would have spoken to me quite normally.

Empower yourself from the inside out

The point is, ‘mdosi‘ is very often a mental perception. When you understand that, then you are placed to deal with your anxiety pang at the prospect of meeting potential employers. Understand that being nervous is often governed by your inner perception of how you should deal with people you perceive as senior.

A lot of these people that you ‘freak-out’ about are normal people who likely do not appreciate your display of nerves around them.

So how can you easily solve your nerves problem?

Practice the situations that make you nervous in a controlled environment.

Simulate a conversation with a potential employer in your bathroom, in your bedroom or in the privacy of your home. Imagine them asking you questions which you then answer calmly.

Pay close attention to your nerves and counsel yourself. Repeat this line quietly to yourself as often as possible in the day, ‘potential employers are normal people who I can speak calmly to’.

Commit coherent speech to mind by repeating quietly to yourself that ‘to speak clearly and confidently to potential employers can open a door of opportunity for me’.

Practice these two reminders often and soon you will find that you can handle people you consider to be in authority quite comfortably.

The importance of self confidence and articulation

There are advantages of being confident and articulate.

First, you will be listened to. Being listened to is extremely important in helping you to find jobs in Kenya. If no one is listening, how will they give you that job in Kenya that you seek?

Second, you are more likely to come through as a person who can be trusted and depended upon. I cannot tell you just how important that single value is to the Kenyan employer.

Decide to build your confidence as you search for job in Kenya from the inside and you will experience opportunity on the outside.
