Now THIS is a Dubstep track!

I had a small mental explosion when I heard this being played at the restaurant last night. I’ve never heard it being played anywhere other than my own stereo before now.

I can’t explain why I love this song, but I get a warm fuzzy feeling whenever I hear it. It usually sticks in my head for the rest of the day and makes me want to drive down the coast to L.A.

I also like the Lil Wayne Vocal Remix, which you can get for free at Rcrdlbl.com : http://tinyurl.com/ybnxmq4

“I see the beauty raining down from the top shelf, I said
I see the beauty and I just wanna help a little, help a little.”

Was introduced to these guys in 2009 with this song. Was really looking forward to hearing more from them too, but just found out they broke up in the fall. Pity, but at least there’s this and the rest of their single released album out there to enjoy.

I really enjoy the stark look of the video. The song starts with a slow burn, building up to a sweet rock-out payoff. I hope these guys find new projects.

My Top 5 Artists (Week Ending 2010-12-19)

My Top 5 Artists (Week Ending 2010-12-19):

Should hip-hop lyrics be considered poetry?

On the heels of the publication of Jay-Z’s “Decoded,” Kelefa Sanneh looks at the language of hip-hop and the recent campaign for respect for the genre:

“If you start in the recent past and work backward, the history of hip-hop spreads out in every direction: toward the Last Poets and Gil Scott-Heron, who declaimed poems over beats and grooves in the early seventies; toward Jamaica, where U-Roy pioneered the art of chatting and toasting over reggae records; toward the fifties radio d.j.s who used rhyming patter to seal spaces between songs; toward jazz and jive and the talking blues; toward preachers and politicians and street-corner bullshitters.”

Nothing to add really except that this is a nice read on the poeticism of hip-hop lyrics.

My Top 5 Artists (Week Ending 2010-11-28)

My Top 5 Artists (Week Ending 2010-11-28):

Definitely a bit of Burial influence on this — particularly in the abstracted vocal samples — but if Burial is evocative of the dim London streets, then this track was brought forth from a hidden cave system kilometers below those streets.

Cavernous reverb and echo drenches everything except the beat, which keeps a nice, tight rhythm. The bass ebbs and swells, only leaving you a few fleeting moments to break the surface. If you can listen to this one on speakers with good bass response, I recommend it!

Primal echoes weave around a melody dreaming in sound. There’s a hint of Burial-esque magic in here.

Yeah, yeah,...

Linkin Park - Waiting for the End (via linkinparktv)

Yeah, yeah, I know, Linkin Park but whatever. I was a pretty big fan up through till Minutes To Midnight, not because I disliked the album; I was probably just listening to other stuff when it came out.

So the new sound the band’s worked up seems like even more of a departure from the previous since I’ve missed part of the progression. That’s okay, since I’m liking where they’ve ended up. And I’m liking this video for their latest single too. Some spooky-cool lighting and what are probably 3D meshes or something but make me think of star constellations. Watch it in HD for the best results.
